Joint Party - no gift

AIBU to be peed off?

A parent has been asking since year 1 to do a joint party with both our sons. I said no last year as I didn’t really know them and she asked again this year so I relented.

I bought their son a gift - asked what he liked etc.
She asked what my son liked etc and said she wanted to buy him something he liked. But she came empty handed and gave no gift.

Her son also tried to remove my son’s name from the board and then punched my son on the hand when my son told him off. I saw it and told him not to punch my son, and he started crying.

Did you do party bags?

the cake she brought… all attendees welcome to it?

and costs split 50:50?

I told her to bring your own cake and party bags so at least the boys can be celebrated separately.
So everything else was 50/50 as I made sure of it.

You really don’t like this person do you

Nope I didn’t mind them as such. She had a habit of empty promises etc but let it go. I only said the above to show finance was not the issue! Otherwise people could say “how would you know?”.

I did…she is always pushing our kids to be friends.

Tell her fuck off then, you sound like you dont like her and your kid dont like her son.
Why all the school mum gate drama.
It gets worse year on with all the mums.
School is for kids not the parents.

I did like her… I am not sure now!
My kid did like her kid and probably still likes him. He likes everyone.
Her kid doesn’t like many kids. I just remembered, he punched another kid at my child’s party last year too! She blamed that on the other child.

Making a mountain out of a mole heap.
Kids fight fall out make up he said she said its apart of learning.
Adults should know this but most SGMs just make it all about them.

You’re joking?

You mean each boy had an entirely separate guest list and you did party bags for your son’s guests and she did party bags for her son’s guests?

and cake time… your son had your cake and her son had her cake???

Tummyrum · 29/09/2025 14:18

There was no cross over in guests?

So every attendee got two party bags and two slices of cake?

This just got weird!

Tummyrum · 29/09/2025 14:20

. I just remembered, he punched another kid at my child’s party last year too! She blamed that on the other child.

so he punched you son (on the hand!) this year

and you remember another punch from a just turned 7 year old and the mother’s reaction…. A year ago!!!

OP, it is you that is coming across as very peculiar

Yes because her child wanted his own cake with its own theme plus the party bags were that theme.
My child wasn’t into that theme.

Is that weird? We went to another joint party in the same class and both kids had their own cake and party bags too?

or every child took away two of everything?

What kind of entertainment was there?

Yes, it’s more that I should have not agreed to this party. At least that way, I would have been blissfully unaware or not be annoyed by anything.

Two parties
two party bags
two cakes
two different themes

This wasn’t a joint party. This was two families sharing the hall they hired!

No. They were just the class kids. Each guest got two party bags and two slices of cake.
The entertainment was a gaming centre.

You went halves on the venue.
and that was the beginning and end of the shared cost?

I wonder whether one of their mothers despised the other (and her poor child!)and remembered incidents involving the child from a year ago!

And here you are Op.

Oh and does it occur to you that in the commotion of the party, she didn’t get the present out of the car and your son may get today or another time?

Of course it didn’t. Because you want to have reason to dislike her

Yes actually… the other mother didn’t pay her and told everyone. They didn’t do a joint party again.

and yet a punched hand and a present left in the car has brought you out in this frame of mind.

Seriously op, this is not healthy

We don’t meet up outside school, and she never does the school run. But yes maybe we’ll see… I will be honest if she does!
