Which will make all our lives worse and won't reduce immigration crime in the slightest. The main reason for immigration crime ongoing is police and Border Force refusal to take action about known criminals.

Nothing will stop guys sharing an ID as they do in other countries.

It will create extra incentive to steal identities from ordinary people (perhaps with violence/kidnap).

Meanwhile this is billions the NHS and schools won't see.

Labour won't see election again in my lifetime.

I saw a conspiracy theory on tiktok that Euan Blair (tony's son) who owns Multiverse (which was in financial trouble earlier this year) will get the contract for these digital IDs

Not sure how true it is, cant find a single online source, so have taken it with a pinch of salt, but it wouldnt surprise me 😪😪

Yanbu

citygirl77 · 28/09/2025 10:08

If it gets passed, Government Gateway have most of our information, as do DWP. Therefore maybe they could organise this and employ some more people? Maybe they could charge a small fee for processing, like a drivers license, which Madam Reeves could use to fix the ever growing black hole!

Nitgel · 28/09/2025 10:10

well someone has to own the company to make them. I think they're a great idea. It's very odd that we don't have them.

Will be glad to not take my passport everywhere when needed to prove my ID.

HoskinsChoice · 28/09/2025 10:11

Are you aware that with the exception of Denmark, we are the only country in Europe that doesn't already have this? Grow up and stop scaremongering.

Pinkfluffypencilcase · 28/09/2025 10:15

We don’t need one.

What is ‘this’? A digital ID scheme or card

singthing · 28/09/2025 10:19

About 30 seconds after the new scheme is launched, there will be fake IDs for sale anyway.

Yep. Just plastic aprons that don't really work rotting in a shed somewhere but on a much much bigger scale (and making us all more vulnerable to identity crime/cuckooing).

I think this stems from the fact that the Tony Blair institute (the arrogance of that man!!!) is pushing them hard. He never got over the rebellion in the 90s. It's sinister, the effect he still has.

It’ll probably be scrapped at the next GE. Easy to get rid of.

Digitally? And recorded through government systems..

Michelle Mone…what happened to her, has she been held to account for the money she was allowed to steal by the Conservative gov.…

What other country uses ID that is based on your phone rather than a proper biometric card?

Yes - it's entirely possible to spoof/deep fake/hack digital systems. Digital ID is compromised regularly around the world.

More importantly - it is going to cost an astronomical sum for something we don't need and your income tax is about to go up to fund it.

Income tax up, which means inflation up, which means we are all poorer because of this absurd enrichment for tech bro Blair chums.

OP posts:
DervlaGlass · 28/09/2025 10:29

I don't know about anyone else but if my income tax goes up I'd like it to fund cancer treatment or care homes or thrombectomy machines.

The main thing that worries me about it is how inept they are at anything online related. And then the cronyism and waste of money is the next thing.
I'm a pensioner so won't apparently need one but if it's going to have nhs and dvla stuff on then we will.

DervlaGlass · 28/09/2025 10:30

And accidentally dropping your phone down the loo is going to take on a while new significance

Or it will go to someone like Palantir, US based data mining company.

I’m still struggling to understand how ID cards will prevent illegal working - those who already employ people without right to work checks while paying slave wages cash in hand are just going to carry on doing the same thing.

They won’t. It’s an excuse for greater access and control for everyone else.

Exactly. Deliveroo isn't going to suddenly start vetting all the guys using that one account.

If I actually wanted to tackle illegal immigration the first thing I'd do is make deliveroo and Uber etc criminally liable for anyone riding in their name without the right to work in the UK.

@HoskinsChoice we most certainly had them in Denmark - we loved their 2020 to 2022 - it’s called something like CPR - we had a card and an app - everything links to it -

The best bet is controlling who enters to start with and leaving citizens with more freedoms. Although this worker thing is an excuse for Starmer, he is actually wanting control over everyone else.

I’m a Labour supporter. But didn’t vote Labour when ID cards were put on the agenda by John Prescott/ Tony Blair.

And they’ve lost my vote again unfortunately.

I remember thinking why is Tony Blair going on about this. Cos he’s got skin in the game clearly!
