The council should be taking down England flags in public places?

fourfoxsakes · 26/09/2025 12:45

I have driven through a couple of areas in the last few days where England flags are being displayed on public lamp posts, it makes me feel very uncomfortable and unwelcome in the area and I think gosh I’m glad I don’t live here, but why are the council not taking them down?

Really? Do you know the person who hung the flags?

It says on request of, meaning the people who started this ‘campaign’ the racist Andy Currien aka Andy Saxon and Tommy Robinson aka Steven Yaxley-Lennon. A pair of racists.

He was convicted of being in contempt of court in 2017. That's not 20 years ago. That's not even 10 years ago. He certainly wasn't 'raising awareness' of anything, the scandal was right out in the open by then. He jeapardised a trial, he could have been responsible for the offenders getting away with their crimes.

He was convicted of contempt of court in a civil matter which is highly unusual. The HS would have to have personally interfered.

Fizbosshoes · 28/09/2025 08:07

If anyone thinks Tommy Robinson is interested in unity and inclusion, given that he has been part of, and founded, several far right organisations, then there isn't much hope...

And the idea that a load of people independent of any political movement, or leader just woke up a few weeks ago and decided thry felt so proud of the country they were going to hang flags from lampposts, and bridges, when they never have before...is a coincidence...Confused

A flag permanently displayed on a church tower, outside a town hall or government building or even on a pole outside someone's private property, is absolutely not the same thing as what has been happening in towns in recent weeks and its ridiculous to claim there's no difference.

MsJinks · 28/09/2025 08:22

Reduced to defending Tommy Robinson now - jeez - the flags aren’t worth that!
He’s got a string of offences, including immigration ones, fraud, violence, cocaine taking/supply, contempt of court, as it was shown the video was untrue re the Syrian boy, but he still wrecked his family’s life by ignoring the English court passing down an English judgement on the case.
Yes, he goes on about grooming gangs - to the ridiculous point he nearly crashed a trial against around 30 of them - so helpful. He never noticed that some of his mates have similar convictions/investigations though - which is actively worrying tbh.
He recently posted a video of a black man with 2 white appearing kids on a park asking ‘wtf. Where are the parents’ - cue hunting down the guy by internet sleuths - who was found to be their grandad taking them out. Then he said it was one of his admin team - nothing to do with him, oh no don’t hold your hands up to anything.
He grifts - he has an Irish ppt and spends most of his life abroad, (courtesy of followers’ buying into his grifting crowdfunders) so not even buying into ‘proud to be English’ schtick he sells.
What a lovely guy - I expect on mn we would all be telling anyone hooking up with such a prince to absolutely stay with him.

I agree 100% then need to be removed and the culprits cautioned with hate crime or incitement. It's disgusting

You can't be serious.

People are allowed to fly the flag of their own country.

If you want to penalise only English people and the English flag then that's racism right there.

MasterBeth · 28/09/2025 08:39

Greenmouldycheese · 27/09/2025 23:50

For years the English have been told to feel ashamed of their flag but they have rightly decided to fly it with pride. Also, tommy robinson has many friends of all races and it far from a racist. His march also had many people of colour taking part. He tried to raise awareness of the rape gangs 20 years ago, was branded a racist and silenced. He has been treated horrifically for saying the very things that are now discussed in parliment. Are you going to call them racist too?

I used to think the same way you do until I actually watched the documentaries where police officers, social services and people who were actually involved in the cover up tell their story.

Tommy Robinson is a racist street thug - FACT. Even the likes of Farage sees him as beyond the pale.

Your defence of the racist street thug shows you in your true colours.

Seeing people pretend it's an innocent display of patriotism and not a coordinated campaign of white supremacy is really fucking tiresome. YANBU.

For many people it is simply a display of patriotism. My area has had flags in place for years. Long before Starmer or the boats were an issue.

It's tiresome when people equate it all to white supremacy. You can't make such asinine assumptions. Its as bad as thinking all Muslims are terrorists.

Properly displayed flags rather than half mast flags cable tied to lampposts and road signs?

NuNameNuMe · 28/09/2025 09:04

Flags look better on flagpoles not flying at half past around lampposts. Russia could surely pony up a few more roubles to pay for that?

PinkLoveHearts · 28/09/2025 09:05

I’m wondering if there are England flags flying around because we’re actually in England lol.

All sorts. In private gardens, council and private companies, bunting across the main streets. No painted roundabouts though.

I'm up near the border. Scottish side has similar with the Saltire.

Nobody has epressed any problems with what you are describing.

Do you think name calling bothers me? It doesn't in the slightest. It also doesn't bother the people who are putting up flags or the thousands of people who took part in the recent march. Try another tactic because screaming racist doesnt work anymore. Flags will continue to rise and people will continue speaking the truth. People care about data, facts and the truth. If you haven't got any of those, then your opinion doesn't matter.

Speaking the truth about being racist, at least you are honest about it.

Resorting to name calling because you lose and argument. How sad, lol.

What is the truth?

Nobody is assuming that though

It's about those flimsy half mast flags tied to lampposts and roadsigns that have suddenly popped up everywhere, what do you think they are 'celebrating'?

The poster I replied to was. Hence my response.

A lot of it also has to do with a general unrest/dissatisfaction within the Government/cost of living/public services etc..

And bugger all to do with racism for lots of people. There are people of all colours and nationalities behind the flags.

I've reported her posts for hate speech so hopefully they get taken down. Some people are displaying huge bigotry, calling people racists, so hopefully MN will delete them.

No, I don't think it'll make a difference to you. It's very clear what you are.

But I think most patriotic English people see Tommy Robinson for what he is. A street thug. A bully. A racist. A grifter.

He's a Blackshirt. An Oswald Mosely fascist. He's what out grandfathers were fighting in WW2.

How is protesting against the degredation of public services served by putting up an England flag?

I'd imagine its a statement of support/patriotism for some people when they perceive well loved institutions such as the NHS are under threat due to poor management by successive governments. A means of demonstrating their frustration perhaps.
