And (being petty) - there is - if you click ob the full quote "history" you'll see @cardibach originally quoted my response to @Financeisfun, which I then responded to Wink

Edited

Aah I did that too 😂

But it still looks like you’re replying to Cardibach as they’re the poster you quoted. To reply to Finance you’d have needed to reply to them directly.

Using your logic, there would be no way of knowing which poster on a trail of replies you’re talking to.

Also, I’m responding primarily because I have to paint a ceiling and I really, really hate painting ceilings so anything to procrastinate 😂😂

I did respond directly to @Financeisfun though 😂 at 16.37. I directly quoted her post and replied.

@cardibach then quoted my response at 16.42 - and I then quoted her back at 16.43 - but the whole thread starts with @Financeisfun's original post Wink

The problem is that MN only shows you the latest response in a quote thread, not the entire thing. So it does look like I'm talking to @cardibach but it's only because she quoted me first Grin

I get you re. painting the ceiling, I can't move as I'm trapped under two cats so I may as well pass away the time on here!

Um, I DID quote @Financeisfun - at 16.37.

You then quoted me at 16.42. Here are some screenshots if you're incapable of checking for yourself 😉

I'll wait for your apology.

You didn’t. You quoted me. As per the screenshot, added again. That’s what I responded to.

You can scroll back and quote the bit you want to reply to. That’s what everyone else does. I accept you didn’t mean me. I’m not impressed with your attitude to me though.

DH will be happy. He's moaning about the radiators coming on in the morning yesterday and this morning 🙄

incognitomouse · 05/10/2025 11:43

I've not broken yet. I've been tempted a few times but I was determined to get to October, and now I'm in some sort of weird standoff with myself.

17 here (SE Wales). I wouldn’t call either temp ‘hot’ though.

Ours is on, tumble dryer kaput and the washing isn't dry after two days.

It's not cold enough here to need the hearing on yet. Where are you?

Well I don't think it's helpful judging the heating choices of others unless you have to live with them, honestly. I'm in the soft south and was sitting yesterday evening with a mate who had her log burner going. It was lovely. In my view if it's chilly enough for a log burner, you put the heating on, maybe just for a little, to warm the house through.
Cold and damp aren't good for people or houses.
Lots of people are enthusiastic about heated throws, just mind all the trailing wires-please!

19 isn't hot! Also add in wind chill, shade etc it won't feel like 19.

If it was that inside I’d want it on…at the moment it isn’t because it trips on morning and evening below 19. It has come on for 20 mins or so most mornings this week.

I live in London and we’ve had the heating on since mid September.

I'm in London and we haven't had it on yet. I'm currently sitting and wfh at the dining room table and it's 23.6 in here.

It's amazing how different houses feel different depending on the orientation, windows, insulation, etc. In our last house, I definitely would have had it on a few times by now - it's set to come on here if the house gets below 19.

We have had one of the gas fires on a few times, but more for ambiance than heat.

GasPanic · 06/10/2025 14:41

It's not been that cold where I am.

Normally I try to keep the CH off until 1 Nov and turn it off again the end of March. Sometimes I will have the lounge fire on if it is cold at night.

This year it looks to be pretty mild out to mid October and that coupled with the improvements I have made to the house insulation means that leaving off the CH until the beginning of Nov is looking like a real possibility this year.

Plastictreees · 06/10/2025 18:03

It’s bloody freezing here in Scotland now, the heating is definitely on!

This is so true.

Our house is south-facing and we’ve got a big extension with two skylights and two sets of patio doors. It’s been sunny today and I was literally sweating sat out there, it’s so hot! And we had the patio doors open.

The extension was a modular build that’s phenomenally well-insulated - the traditional builders who turned up later were joking about us having to walk around in underwear as it would be so warm. We have a log burner but we scrapped the plan to fit radiators as we just don’t need them as well (it’s open plan downstairs).

My last house was north-facing and only had a draughty conservatory on the back. It was freezing by comparison.

The difference in orientation and the insulation has made such a huge difference. It seems to retain heat from a sunny day. Bear in mind I’m a chilly soul who likes a very warm temperature. I’m currently sat here in a T-shirt and feel a bit on the warm side still!

Ask me again in a fortnight and I’m sure the fire will be blazing away but so far no one has wanted any heating on.

21° in Cheshire today. Most people out and about in T shirts. No heating needed here, although to be fair, I try not to have it on at all and get by with layers and hot water bottles.

Blondeshavemorefun · 06/10/2025 23:36

Today was sunny. Well in Kent. So no heating and didn’t click on at night

but has been clicking in on 18 at night maybe 3/4am the last week or so

I can judge when the post was 3 weeks ago so what your mate did yesterday is irrelevant

Ok, didn’t notice the date but the point stands. If cold, put the heating on if you possibly can.

FunnyOrca · 08/10/2025 18:20

Our heating season is October - March. We have had it on once for a wee boost so far.

Our downstairs neighbours are from a warmer climate so we benefit greatly from their heating. The first year we moved in they actually went home Dec-Feb and left the heating on! We didn’t have to use our own once!
