We've not turned our heating on yet. Our windows are still open all day. It'll be a while before our heating goes on.

It’s pissibg down and blowing a gale here. With a feels like temperature of 7.

Our heating is on and our windows are closed.

You obviously don’t have the storm with high wind and horizontal rain then…

Same - the only reason our windows are closed today is because the winds are so strong - it's still warm despite the storms and extensive flooding. Certainly not cold enough for the heating where we are in Cumbria.

That depends on how naturally warm your house is and what your tolerance for cold is, doesn’t it?
Mine is tripping itself on for a half hour most mornings. Not in the evening so far (set to 19 for morning and evening). My bedroom windows are open all day and the back door for a bit in the morning if it doesn’t feel unduly chilly when I open it (about half the time).
I’m very sensitive to cold.

Yes, so you keep saying.

And so you keep challenging. What’s in that for you?

In case you hadn't noticed, I wasn't actually responding to you Hmm

You quoted me. How is that not responding to me?

Yes, after you quoted my response to @Financeisfun

But conveniently you've managed to leave that part out 😂

I do actually. Its still warm though. Our windows are pulled onto the latch when the rain comes in too strong. The rain has stopped now so they're open again.

landlordhell · 04/10/2025 17:32

Been so mild but today it’s cold and windy so I e just put the thermostat up to take the edge off.

WonderfulSmith · 04/10/2025 17:50

Our heating clicked on for the first time this morning, but only because I had the living room window open from 6.30 at the cat’s insistence.

I had my bedroom window open last night and the room got below 20 for the first time in ages.

You quoted me. If you wanted to respond to someone else, you should have quoted their comment. The one you wanted to respond to. How else is any9ne meant to know what you mean?
You could have just said ‘oh, yes, sorry, I meant to quote @Financeisfun’. That would be the rational response.

My house hasn’t got as high as 20 for weeks. It’s not massively cold, usually between 18 and 19, but enough to trip the heating on for a bit in the morning.

Our room has been below 20° for this last week. Overnight it got to 16.5°, which is lovely (we prefer cool bedrooms).

We 'tested' the heating today as the 70mph winds straight at the house overnight had brought the living room down to 16.5° too, so we wanted to warm it up so it was more pleasant to sit in.

Um, I DID quote @Financeisfun - at 16.37.

You then quoted me at 16.42. Here are some screenshots if you're incapable of checking for yourself 😉

I'll wait for your apology.

I’ve got no skin in this game either way, but in fairness, it did look like a response directly to @cardibach 🫣

But getting back to the thread, I have wavered once or twice but we haven’t lit a fire yet or had the heating on. And I’m normally a lizard who needs blistering heat in the house.

I am perimenopausal though - 49 years old - so I’m wondering if my internal heating has gone wonky this year?! 😂🤷‍♀️

warmapplepies · 04/10/2025 18:17

@SpidersAreShitheads yes, because she responded to me!

I posted at 16.37 replying to @Financeisfun. @cardibach then quoted me a few minutes later, so I then responded to her...

Look at the timestamps.

NoWordForFluffy · 04/10/2025 18:23

This all seems rather petty and unnecessary.

FWIW, surely it's obvious that what is cold / perfect / too hot is subjective, based on situation, rather than there being a hard and fast temp which works for everyone?!

MN wouldn't be as entertaining if it wasn't full of people being petty and unnecessary (and I happily include myself in that) Grin

SpidersAreShitheads · 04/10/2025 18:26

@warmapplepies yes, I looked at all of that.

But the message you directly quoted and replied to was @cardibach which implies they were the poster you were talking to when you said “so you keep saying”.

Reading the thread there’s no way of telling that you were actually directing that specific comment to @Financeisfun. To do that, you’d need to ignore Cardibach’s comment, scroll back up and quote Finance directly.

I don’t really care either way tbh 😂

As long as everyone is warm enough we’re all good. Including the human penguins I previously mentioned who feel comfortable at 16 degrees 😂😂

ShortColdandGrey · 04/10/2025 18:26

No heating on yet. Jumpers and blankets here at the moment.

Chinsupmeloves · 04/10/2025 18:26

Yes the past couple of weeks, just a tiny amount. DH wfh so never going to save on energy during winter even though me and DC are out all day. Grrr...

And (being petty) - there is - if you click ob the full quote "history" you'll see @cardibach originally quoted my response to @Financeisfun, which I then responded to Wink
