i should hope most people would put on more clothes before putting the heating on - very wasteful not to

I should hope you realise that it's up to others what they do in their own houses.

Yes I put on a fleece /have blanket over me - always slippers. Hate cold feet

but I’m cold

I’ve always been cold person but this winter weighing 7s less I’m freezing as have lost my blubber so to speak

so as I said before. Heating is on

i work hard so if cold thermostat goes up and even putting it on for 30mins makes such a diff

No need to be judgy, cold houses can mean mould and damp, so it's not always about just 'putting on another jumper'

i didnt say it was "Just putting on another jumper" at all

OhNoNotSusan · 28/09/2025 09:16

@staringatthesun
i would put on a jumper
i will put the heating on but not until i have at least put on a jumper, it read to me that the post who i was referring too was simply saying put on a jumper as if it was a NEW and Unusual thing

Ah right. I guess the impact of no heating is greater than no clean clothes or a clean body

There's cooking too. I forgot about that. People are going to foodbanks and refusing food that requires cooking. I'm not passing any judgement on what's worse, just pointing out that the situation's truly bad when even doing without heating causes such financial problems.

Very well done. It's hard to lose weight.

Ihateslugs · 28/09/2025 15:38

I changed to my winter weight duvet last night ( from a 4 tog one to 10.5) and even after having my heating on for an hour or so before bed, I still had a cold nose in the middle of the night!

Do people really wear light / summer clothes all year round in the UK of all places? Surely not.

Whispers

I have both on. Think they are meant to be combined to 14.5 if very cold

Nope.

Im sat in jeans and t shirt and the heating is on. My house my bills.

AzurePanda · 28/09/2025 17:52

@ArseInTheCoOpWindow is there really nothing you wouldn’t rather spend your money on? Do you find it hard going outside in the winter when it’s really cold?

Many do in Autumn and Spring.

Medicate it.

Not everybody can simply 'medicate' it, some have to just put up with it

waltercrimble · 29/09/2025 11:39

Well, it was -2 this morning. Hard frost, car needed defrosted and scraped. Definitely hat, gloves and scarf weather. Got my big jacket out too. Waiting to see what it's like when I go out at lunch but heating most definitely on at work. Likely will kick in at home too.

Starryskiestonight · 01/10/2025 09:41

1st October… feel like I’m officially allowed to put the heating on now! House was 17.6 this morning and both of us were feeling cold WFH. Just on for an hour to boost the temp!

OhNoNotSusan · 01/10/2025 18:13

so hot yesterday i wore a dress to work!
but less hot today.
october 1st has come round, yay!

OhNoNotSusan · 01/10/2025 18:14

During Covid I had to do video calls to families. It was winter and I was in a jumper, blanket and cat on my knees. Most of the households I spoke to the families were in strappy tops, T-shirts, summer dresses. It honestly doesn’t seem to occur to some people. Perhaps it’s because I’m old and grew up before central heating that I’ll put a jumper on before putting on the heating.

I’m old and grew up before central heating.

I love my warm house and wearing a t shirt, I hate scratchy bundled up layers.
