Bloody thing. It faints if it sees a speck of dust. The roller gets jammed if a corner paper goes into it. I'm either taking it apart and coaxing it back to life or I'm taking it apart and cursing it.

Earlier on it was sucking up dust only to regurgitate it elsewhere. Now it's being completely stripped down. I want to throw if off the roof just to see it smash to pieces.

Sure it can handle hair with its amazing comb ( no it F@king can't! ) but can it handle half a teaspoon of dust?

Most useless purchase ever and I have this ahole for years. I spend more time taking it apart than hoovering

Mine was a bastard too - hoses couldn’t cope with dog hair and it clogged at least monthly. Was so pleased when it eventually died.

New upright bagged vacuum isn’t perfect either, a bit heavier than expected, but there is much less dust in the house.

WhatterySquash · 17/09/2025 18:41

I have a Miele C2 and it's the opposite problem. Sucks up everything within a 20-yard radius - socks, curtains, jewellery, cutlery, pens, important bits of paper. It's only little and innocent-looking but it'll have your foot off.

I end up taking it apart as well but it's to retrieve things I shouldn't have hooved up!

Exhaustedtiredneedabreak · 17/09/2025 18:49

My shark got binned, have gone through Dyson, vax and 2 sharks. I admitted defeat and got a henry. Heavy, cumbersome not great on thick carpet but robust and OK on hard floors.

😅😅 Omg it sounds amazing. I just imagine it ripping the curtains off the rails. It's feisty!

Mine is weak and fragile. Like a victorian 95 year old. It needs sniffing salts and fanning down after a shock ( ie getting too near a sweet wrapper the kids have accidentally dropped).

If it had pearls, it would be clutching them tightly

Mine was also very poor and I found the accessories really poor quality.Like another poster I've returned to a Henry hoover.

I was hoping mine had died last night just to put it out its miserable existence kindly.

But the smug git is still with us.

Me too - Shark stick useless after less than 18 months, I had even bought extra batteries for it - what a waste. Got an expensive Bosch stick, 6 months in and it is regurgitating stuff. Got the old Miele Blizzard (bagless) but corded out of the garage and it does such a great job.

justasking111 · 17/09/2025 20:00

DH is an engineer has worked with many rechargeable tools. I'm banned from a rechargeable battery machine.

EmeraldShamrock000 · 18/09/2025 00:20

I blame social media influence types for encouraging tbe public to buy shark.

buffyfaithfredwesley · 18/09/2025 01:46

SabbatWheel · 17/09/2025 08:36

I was a Shark advocate until the motor died in my first one after 4 years and the switch went in my second one after less than 4 years.

I bought an upright corded Vax for £89 and it is BRILLIANT. The reach on it is incredible, I can do a whole 4 bed house from one socket downstairs.

I have a shark but bought a vax cordless (possibly excessive for a single person but anyway!)
wanted something light and quick and it’s been great, runs for about 45 mins

Henry fell over one too many times, I kicked him and my dad rescued him, took him home and now speaks lovingly to him

martinisforeveryone · 18/09/2025 05:38

Henry only keels over because people will pull him around by the hose, which it specifically says not to do. My DH does this and it maddens me because we’ve got an extra length of silver tube so there’s a really good cleaning arc as it is.

Snozzlemaid · 18/09/2025 05:49

My Shark is the best vacuum I’ve ever owned. We’ve had it for a couple of years now and had no problems with it at all. The suction is amazing and just as strong as when we first bought it. I love mine!

pinkbackground · 18/09/2025 06:08

Mine is the same. Awful
product. I shouted at it the other day.

ItWasTheBabycham · 18/09/2025 06:40

What I don’t understand is why I have to clean the filters every other week and when I do they’re horribly dirty. But it just seems to move around the dust?!?!

justasking111 · 18/09/2025 09:32

Our old Henry is in the garage DH uses it for cleaning up in there and the car it must be 30 years old now.

lovepotionnumbernine · 18/09/2025 10:33

I’ve just bought a fancy new Dyson that does all sorts of tricks, however, after reading through this thread I shall retire rather than bin hetty. She can live in the cupboard under the stairs I think.

Smallsalt · 18/09/2025 11:19

Strawberrycreamcalzone · 16/09/2025 22:42

I hated mine.
I went back to my Miele. Yes it’s sometimes annoying to drag round as it’s a corded cylinder one but it’s so powerful with amazing suction.

I bought a Miele. it smells.

Smallsalt · 18/09/2025 11:22

NapoleonsToe · 17/09/2025 09:10

I've got a Miele C3. It's brilliant, really powerful and the bag hardly ever needs changing (despite having a Labrador).

I bought a drag around Meile to get away from the bastard Shark. I mean, its a good sooker, nut the place stinks when you use it?
Is it just mine?
Might have to go back to the Shark drama.

TurquoiseDreamCatcher · 18/09/2025 11:37

Mine refuses to suck up dust but inhaled a sock that was near it. I don’t know how that was even possible!

70isaLimitNotaTarget · 18/09/2025 11:41

My old Shark used to vomit up the dust even if I held it over a bin once I switched off. I bought a Halo Capsule which is ok for quick cleaning but invested in a new Shark Stratos a year ago which is amazing
Huge long cord which is a bit of a pain as I feel like I'm wrangling a lassoo but better performance than cordless

70isaLimitNotaTarget · 18/09/2025 11:44

2 cats , my DD has long thick hair and my hair is shoulder length. It is mind boggling how much it picks up . I have enough fur to knit a new cat every week

Lurleenlumpkin79 · 18/09/2025 11:47

Oh god I had a Dyson like this. I nagged and nagged my partner to get one from Argos and it turned out to be a piece of crap.

It would just get blocked with nothing. I wouldn't throw it out for ages as I couldn't bear the thought of throwing all that money away on the tip. But it was getting in the way in our utility room so I finally threw out the bastard.

Pudmyboy · 18/09/2025 12:18

I bought a Shark for the bendy bit which made it easy to store, a feature I really like and wish other manufacturers would copy, and for the headlights which sadly just show up the fact that it doesn't pick stuff up, unless you have it in turbo charge mode.
I also dislike the way they bring out a new model, with an incremental tweak to performance, every bloody year it seems. The new models need new batteries and chargers too which annoys me: why can't they make batteries compatible with the chargers already in use?
Anyway. I now have a Bosch stick which actually works and I love it. Does need propping up in a corner when not in use though, otherwise it slides drunkenly to the floor. And the battery is a bit fiddly.
But my floors are clean!
As others have said: Sharks suck at sucking!

Think we’ve an old Dyson in the hoover retirement facility (aka garage) . We gave up on it as it required an engineering degree and the strength of a Geoff Capes to wrench off the tank every time it needed emptying.

Nannyfannybanny · 19/09/2025 08:11

This thread is actually quite funny, although I don't know why so many people say hoover . Lots of people complaining about dust, does everyone dust with a vacuum cleaner! I've got an anti-static noodle brush which extends to 12 foot for under the bed and sofa, lamp shades, lots of damp dusting, otherwise of course you're just moving the dust around. I'm glad I didn't go for a cordless or hair wrap,my sharp pet, coped with long hair,2 dogs, occasionally check and remove from roller. I actually sweep a lot of floors, doesn't anyone do that anymore.Filters washed monthly in washing liquid then a dash of fabric conditioner. DH has a huge wet,/dry model for the car/gutters/drive,you can hear it from outer space..poster who says her DH said don't get disposable batteries, why is that? I've got a Dyson hand held, rechargeable,it's about 12 years old ,has had a new battery, used for quick spot cleaning.
