Bloody thing. It faints if it sees a speck of dust. The roller gets jammed if a corner paper goes into it. I'm either taking it apart and coaxing it back to life or I'm taking it apart and cursing it.

Earlier on it was sucking up dust only to regurgitate it elsewhere. Now it's being completely stripped down. I want to throw if off the roof just to see it smash to pieces.

Sure it can handle hair with its amazing comb ( no it F@king can't! ) but can it handle half a teaspoon of dust?

Most useless purchase ever and I have this ahole for years. I spend more time taking it apart than hoovering

Our ‘no longer wanted but still working’ area for smallish electricals at our local tip is mainly a cluster of sad and abandoned Sharks, huddled together for warmth.

When I got rid of the Bastard Dyson before I got the Bastard Shark, it went into that section at the tip, which was chock full of Dysons of all different shapes and sizes. I left him there with his mates, a sad little abandoned family of shite, workshy appliances.

Which Miele?

The Miele M1.

Much cheaper than the cordless shark/dyson.

honestly I find it a bit of a faff compared to the convenience of the cordless but it seems the professionals swear by it.

LongTallSuzie · 17/09/2025 09:06

My corded rocket shark was excellent. Lasted 10 years which is amazing nowadays. The replacement cordless one is a useless. It’s been relegated to upstairs. I’ve bought a green Henry (the pet one - my Geordie Henry 😆)it’s bloody amazing!! It’s heavy and bulky but so good!

notnorman · 17/09/2025 09:08

I’ve had loads of cost a fortune Dyson and sharks. Have now got a Henry and I’m happy 😃

Which Miele?

I've got a Miele C3. It's brilliant, really powerful and the bag hardly ever needs changing (despite having a Labrador).

The only person I know who waxes lyrical about how amazing her cordless shark is has a pristine house where every crumb is instantly swept up, no pets, works long hours so not home much and she lives alone. The vacuum has very little to actually suck up so yes it probably seems like it's doing a good job.

Everyone else who lives in a standard house with all the mess that creates can see through the bullshit and has a corded vacuum or a good old Henry. Honestly who wants to spend their life cleaning the filters on a vacuum cleaner, life's way too short for that shit.

GallifreyGirl · 17/09/2025 09:19

I love my Henry . Favourite hooover apart from when he falls over and rolls around like a drunken sailor. I keep looking at shark and Dyson but I’m not ready to give up my Henry!

Nannyfannybanny · 17/09/2025 09:28

If people don't bother to clean filters, vacuum cleaners, dishwasher's, what do they expect. A friend,(qualified lawyer, loads of degrees,) said her dishwasher wasn't emptying. DH asked "when did you last clean the filter", friend "what filter"!.

TheNuthatch · 17/09/2025 09:28

Yep I hate my shark(s) too op. Like an idiot, I fell for the hype after four failed dysons. Unfortunately I bought two of the workshy bastards at the same time! I have an upright lift-away, and a cordless one with the folding wand. Absolute rubbish, both of them. The upright does pick up quite well, but it is permanently blocked and falls over all the feckin time. If I use the lift-away to do the stairs, I can't remove the tool after. I have to ask DH to get it off again. So annoying! The cordless just ignores dirt, no matter how clean the filters are. It also can't handle any hair whatsoever. Both are anti hair wrap.
I now use Henry for deep cleans, and a robot for the daily whip around. I don't have time in my day to fuck around with the Sharks. They're off to the tip.

HarryVanderspeigle · 17/09/2025 09:28

Hate my shark, big buyers remorse. Anti hair wrap technology my arse! It's so fussy about what it eats. But it was expensive, so will keep it going as long as possible, then get a miele. Plus my cleaner likes it and she uses it more than me, so would rather keep her happy.

We clean the filters on all of our appliances at the end of every month.
The Sharks are still shit.

Allthegoodnamesarechosen · 17/09/2025 09:35

DH does the vacuuming ( when prompted / nagged) so he gets to choose the equipment. His previous choice, the Karcher, fell over all the time, had a short cord which meant he had to change the socket often ( 🤬🤯), seemed to regurgitate dust when cross.

After ‘much careful research’ he has replaced it with Henry and he is much happier. The only problem is that the tube cannot be detached and hung up , so Henry lolls on the floor in the spare bedroom….

I would like a replacement for my defunct Karcher steamer ( will never get another after two stooped working without warning and not much use) if anyone has any ideas?

rainbowunicorn22 · 17/09/2025 09:37

when we emptied late MIL house we found one of these damn things not used; she was a hoarder and emptying her house was an experience. Anyway i was ooh posh hoover so took it home full of hope. it lasted a month before I went back to my upright corded. the bin was useless, at the time having 2 dogs and MIL cat, the bin was not fit for purpose filled up in no time. it was no bigger than a mug. it clogged up all the time and to be honest after hoovering it looked like you had no bothered. waste of space

Mine is the same, a rubber sweeping brush has changed my life though

This!

i've spent an absolute fortune on Dysons and Sharks and they’ve all been rubbish

i've now got a Bosch cordless which is sort of ok. It came with 2 batteries so even they know it'll suddenly find doing it's job too difficult and just stop

If I just want to do a quick clean I tend to use my rubber sweeping brush

cloudchaos · 17/09/2025 09:40

Yes the Shark vacuum I got was the worst I’ve had. It just doesnt seem to work at all. We replaced it with a Henry which is much better.

Toddlerteaplease · 17/09/2025 09:41

I had a Dyson pet cordless, that couldn’t cope with long cat hair. 🙄

Mysticaldeer · 17/09/2025 09:46

@Allthegoodnamesarechosen I've just bought the karcher Sc3 and am loving it. I never expect anything using water in last long, tbh, but it did come with a 2year warranty.

I'm always surprised at the Dyson hate on Mumsnet. My cordless is great, five years old now. Customer service is excellent.

The customer service was excellent, they changed the first one and refunded the second. I have to say I was disappointed as I'd wanted one for a long time.

ladyofshertonabbas · 17/09/2025 09:47

I love mine. Am pro shark.

I got a rubber sweeping brush last week. Wow. The amount of hair it got up!! If you have a pet and long hair, or any hair really, this is a revelation.

Couldyounot · 17/09/2025 10:04

We had a Shark cordless thing. It was feeble beyond belief. We now have a Dyson Ball X-Treme Destroy-O-Matic (may not actually be its name), which redistributes dust and dog hair around the house with great violence.

I am convinced that nobody involved in the design and manufacture of modern vacuum cleaners has ever used one.

You shouldn't need to clean the filter on something every time you use it though.

I love my anti hair wrap Shark. The filters are a piece of piss to clean & it performs v well imo

TizerorFizz · 17/09/2025 12:23

We returned our GTech. It also pushed dust around and nothing went into it to firm the compact dust block. Just useless. We have hard floors downstairs with 2 rugs. It could not clean the rugs at all. As I said earlier, just get a conventional Miele. It works!

SparklyGlitterballs · 17/09/2025 12:26

My cordless Dyson stick vacuum is also useless. If it's on regular suction then it picks up nothing. If I put it on turbo it dies within a couple of minutes. So bloody expensive too!

I'm seriously considering a Henry. For those of you who have one, do you use the branded Henry bags, or are the unbranded ones equally as good?
