Bloody thing. It faints if it sees a speck of dust. The roller gets jammed if a corner paper goes into it. I'm either taking it apart and coaxing it back to life or I'm taking it apart and cursing it.

Earlier on it was sucking up dust only to regurgitate it elsewhere. Now it's being completely stripped down. I want to throw if off the roof just to see it smash to pieces.

Sure it can handle hair with its amazing comb ( no it F@king can't! ) but can it handle half a teaspoon of dust?

Most useless purchase ever and I have this ahole for years. I spend more time taking it apart than hoovering

I think I'm going to get one!

If you have pets get the Pet hair one, it's called Henry Quick Pet

BoudiccaRuled · 17/09/2025 08:16

@Morecoffeethanks LOL at the needy and work shy Dyson 😂

NuovaPilbeam · 17/09/2025 08:19

EU regulations on elec usage have really killed vaccuum cleaners. I know they claim it means companies have to design more energy efficient suction but fundamentally it means the outcome in terms of cleaning carpets is poorer.

I have the same issue with the bastard heat pump tumble dryer, bought as one if the best rated models around. It's dependent on the ambient temperature around it, nothing i do makes it adequately dry clothes in winter. Yes it is arguably more energy efficient than an old vented dryer. No, it does not fully dry clothes in less than 5 hours.

And the similar issue - water limited washing machines. Modern machines are useless on stained clothing because regulations mean they have to use limited water and "shower" the clothes rather than soaking them properly. Newsflash - it doesn't work as well.

I'd love to see an independent body compare and review some of the older tech against the "energy saving" appliances and rate them solely on how quickly and effectively they actually clean.

Over the years I’ve had several fancy Dyson and shark cordless vacuums. They tend to be great fit a couple of months and then no amount of filter cleaning, emptying or detangling gets them going again.

I’ve also had three amazing cleaners. None of them will use the Dyson/shark and I have had to buy a corded, bagged Miele for them to use.

When the last Miele broke I tried to persuade them to use the shark and my current cleaner said she couldn’t clean for me if I insisted on her using the shark!

after taking it apart yesterday for the nth time I have to concede she is correct. It’s shit.

TooExtraImmatureCheddar · 17/09/2025 08:25

I hate my cordless Dyson.

Cordless = runs out of charge after doing three rooms, so I can choose between doing the upstairs or the downstairs. It’s not a big house!

Bagless = the dust puffs back up in your face when you empty it into the bin.

Useless = snowflake piece of equipment that only deigns to work if you change the attachment every 2 mins. Special carpet head doesn’t work on hard floors, and special hard floor head doesn’t work on rugs, so I have to keep swapping the bloody things. To do the edges you have to get the actual edge cleaning tool.

I hate it. My last Henry died after 12 years and DH went off to Curry’s and came back with this useless piece of crap thinking it was an upgrade. It’s not.

TizerorFizz · 17/09/2025 08:26

But a Miele.

ShodAndShadySenators · 17/09/2025 08:26

I have a brilliant corded Shark and it's great (with the sole exception that it ignores my hair completely), gets all the cat hair up though and fills the container with one vacuum of the living room which is a bit alarming really. I usually get my hair up by scrubbing the carpet with my slipper so it forms into long dreadlocks on the floor that can be picked up and binned. But the Shark is very good otherwise, just needs the filters washed regularly.

I had a Bosch rechargeable cordless thing and it was a total pleb, only picked dust up to look at then put it back down again just as he'd found it. Bloody useless thing. And we had a Henry who grinned smugly but picked up feck all, so he got demoted to DH's home office - bad deal for Henry as it's full of swarf and similar crap from the lathes and mills. Suck it up Henry, you crappy bastard.

NapoleonsToe · 17/09/2025 08:30

Shark are the worst hoovers ever made. Ours went to the tip before it died because it was just too useless to give to anyone.

What you need is a Sebo or Miele. Our Sebo saunters into the room, cracks its knuckles, rolls its sleeves up and sucks up all the dirt. As it should.

ConnieHeart · 17/09/2025 08:31

I'm on my 2nd Shark & I love it. Requires v little maintenance & picks up everything in sight. Sorry!

EnjoythemoneyJane · 17/09/2025 08:32

OMG, I hear you OP! Worst POS vacuum ever, and I say that as someone who had a POS Dyson before that. I hate mine.

With the amount of time you have to spend cleaning filters and unpicking rollers just to get it to do its bloody job for 30 seconds before it swoons from the exertion of it all, you might as well just crawl around the carpet picking the bits up with your teeth. It’d be a fuck sight quicker and more efficient than rolling over the same bit of fluff 18 times on maximum suction before you have bend over and pick it up anyway.

I’m moving house shortly and took great pleasure in telling the removal guy that no, the bastard hoover won’t be coming, and he could he kindly drop it off at the tip, preferably from a great height.

Every builder I’ve ever known has a Henry and I’ve watched those fat little fellas literally suck up rubble. They’re no nonsense, indestructible and definitely the way forward!

TooExtraImmatureCheddar · 17/09/2025 08:32

I also have to change the filters every second use. You have to plan ahead because it won’t work if the filter is dirty, but if you wash it, it also won’t work until the filter is dry. Found that out the hard way. Bought spare filters - the Dyson official filters were something ridiculous like £38, but DH found a pack of 2 on Temu for £8 that work just as well. Dyson are wankers.

Fleurdalys · 16/09/2025 23:03

No idea?
I got it free on a local fb site stating it was new but didn’t pick up?
wasn’t surprised after I took it apart, removed half a golden retriever, washed it and bought new filters
Good as new and fantastic suction

We need the laugh emoji back just for the golden retriever

My DH says this about wattage. He always checks. My friend has an American twin tub washing machine . Hot and cold water feed. Big drums. Hot wash twenty minutes. Incredible spinner. Clothes come out almost dry. I used to be so jealous.

I used to have a Hotpoint top loader. Lasted years. Again big drum, great spin. That lasted years too

SabbatWheel · 17/09/2025 08:36

I was a Shark advocate until the motor died in my first one after 4 years and the switch went in my second one after less than 4 years.

I bought an upright corded Vax for £89 and it is BRILLIANT. The reach on it is incredible, I can do a whole 4 bed house from one socket downstairs.

Stifledlife · 17/09/2025 08:36

I had a shark and gave it away because i didn't need the constant blocking up and fainting at the sight of dog hair.
I bought a dyson and it too blocks up constantly so I contacted dyson to tell them the bore was too narrow at the top and bottom of the "wand" and that was why it was blocking up every time it saw a piece of tissue or a clump of dog hair. Their reply? Sweep first, then vacuum. I asked them if they really tought I would pay £700 for a glorified dust pan and brush. They have yet to reply.
I bought a chinese knock off and it works perfectly.

crinkletits · 17/09/2025 08:38

I love mine but it does need looking after. Clean after every use and empty and then he’s the best ever vacuum. I can’t believe how much crap it kicks up.

Cbamuch · 17/09/2025 08:38

I had my Dyson V11 (5 yrs old) serviced last week and asked the tech which vacuums he would recommend and which he'd avoid. He said Shark were dreadful, Bosch were quite good as were Dyson. He had a V11 Dyson.

tumblingdowntherabbithole · 17/09/2025 08:39

Sharks are awful. We have a Vax Pet Hair and it’s been great. Cheaper than the Shark too.

friskybivalves · 17/09/2025 08:40

Our ‘no longer wanted but still working’ area for smallish electricals at our local tip is mainly a cluster of sad and abandoned Sharks, huddled together for warmth.

Citrusbergamia · 17/09/2025 08:42

I've covered my Shark's eyes & ears to this thread! Mine is amazing and never shies away from dust or hair...gobbles it straight up.

And no bloody fat shaming my vacuum now just because it gobbles everything!

TheGoddessFrigg · 17/09/2025 08:43

My FAVOURITE trick of the Shark is when you go to lift it to put it away and it dumps everything allegedly sucked up all over the carpet again.
I have two ginger cats and have to do so much bloody maintenance on it every time it puts me off using it. I prefer using the rubber broom

justasking111 · 17/09/2025 08:43

We have a vax carpet cleaner. Heavy brute do all the carpets twice a year so it's been used 12 times. The bastard leaking now 🤬

My cleaner has two vacuum cleaners. I must ask why because she's brilliant.

I threw mine and got a Samsung. Much better. 👍

ThreePointOneFourOneFiveNine · 17/09/2025 08:45

My shark is fine. Yes I do have to keep taking the roller out to cut off all the hair that’s got wrapped around it, but it’s a big improvement on my previous vacuum cleaner that didn’t get clogged up because it didn’t pick up the hair.

Chocolateismylovelife · 17/09/2025 08:49

Which Miele?
