Bloody thing. It faints if it sees a speck of dust. The roller gets jammed if a corner paper goes into it. I'm either taking it apart and coaxing it back to life or I'm taking it apart and cursing it.

Earlier on it was sucking up dust only to regurgitate it elsewhere. Now it's being completely stripped down. I want to throw if off the roof just to see it smash to pieces.

Sure it can handle hair with its amazing comb ( no it F@king can't! ) but can it handle half a teaspoon of dust?

Most useless purchase ever and I have this ahole for years. I spend more time taking it apart than hoovering

I’ve had my early corded old Shark for 10 years, it’s amazing. Best hoover I’ve ever had, tbh, but I empty it at each use, and clean the filters.

5yrs ago, just after the guarantee expired, the motor failed. I emailed Shark and said I thought that in view of the cost of the hoover, that being precise about when the guarantee ran out wouldn’t be a good customer service.

They sent me new motor, and a new 5yr guarantee.

I'd get another, but only the corded ones.

StillCreatingAName · 17/09/2025 12:38

Dumped the useless Dyson, went to Henry, who now lives upstairs by my desk. I have to turn him around so I can’t see his eyes begging me to spend some time with him. I cheat on Henry downstairs with a Hoover cordless. Henry is the better of the two.

Haven't had a shark but Dyson are shit. Bought one and snapped one of the tools on the stairs and the hose split, only had it a month and I'm not that vigorous at cleaning. Changed it for a different model and that had the spitting out issue. Bought a bog standard panasonic that lasted years.

I agree.
I bought a stick dyson to do the stairs... I only get about 6 steps up before it packs in and needs re charging.
Only way to make it work again is to buy frequent Dyson branded batteries and filters which are really expensive and then its not long before it starts sulking again. And I've watched all the You Tubes on how to take them apart and clean everything regularly too!

RoverReturn · 17/09/2025 12:42

How old?

My cordless Shark is coming up for 5 and has started being crap. Picks up less and less. Have checked for all blockages and even washed the filters.

NuovaPilbeam · 17/09/2025 12:52

The whole cordless thing is rubbish - basically the battery technology isn't there in a portable enough form at this price point, so all the cordless ones either lack power or run out of battery very quickly. I think there is also a whole business model in the industry now around designing to include components that need regular replacement like filters, so that you can be depended on for a 5 year tail of revenue for overpriced filters/bags/batteries.

I've stopped bothering with the cordless dyson, it was a toss between 2 minutes if reasonable suction or turbo mode or 5 mins on normal, it would barely do the stairs on one charge.

I've got a miele c3 now, its reasonable but not the wonder people claim, especially compared to the early dysons before regulations capped their energy usage. It isn't cheap either, I'm planning to try Henry next as my cleaners insist he's the man I've been missing in my life, the reliable workhorse of the hoover world. I've always been suspicious of his low price but I'm ready to embrace it now.

NewsdeskJC · 17/09/2025 12:58

We had a shark. It was a bastard as you say. One week after the 5 year warranty expired it blew up. Literally.
We now have a Henry XL that cost £130. I think it will outlive me!

Clairey1986 · 17/09/2025 13:02

I nearly lit my shark on fire at the weekend when gutting the house for photos for putting house on the market. Went and bought a Dyson and chucked it in the bin 😂

Hankunamatata · 17/09/2025 13:04

Im glad I went with a henry. No filters. The bugger is an arse for tipping over and getting stuck in doorways though

EmeraldShamrock000 · 17/09/2025 13:05

They are the worst, IMO.
I returned mine.
Tried Samsung too, 3 stars.
The Dyson is probably the best IMO.
It's only for upstairs, crap at picking up crumbs.
My favourite is my plug in chunky pink Hetty, Henry's Sister, cheap and effective.

whataboutallofthis · 17/09/2025 13:08

@Dee03 snap! Henry Hoover with a cord, best purchase ever! Shitty shark no more

Hmm.
My C3 was better than Henry. Imo.
If I had a choice I'd pick C3. Hetty was on offer when I bought her.
C3 is much easier to move around and has adjustable suction.

Definitelynotme2022 · 17/09/2025 13:13

I have a corded Shark, the pet version, and I love it! I do agree about the bar, it's super annoying that it doens't come out to clean behind. They did on my old one.

I also have a cordless one that my sister was getting rid of, it's useless. If that's what the OP has, then I completely agree. I can't tell you how many times I've gone to press the power button, but emptied the dirt cannister all over the floor instead. Absolutely ridiculous design.

estrogone · 17/09/2025 13:17

Agree OP. We have the Shark with automatic emptying function. Cost a freaking fortune

It shits me beyond belief. Like yours it can't cope with a spec of dust. I spend more time deconstructing the fucker than actually hoovering. Complete waste of money.

Nannyfannybanny · 17/09/2025 16:51

Luxio, I clean.filters once a month, but you can't expect to use a dishwasher for several years and never clean it!

My son and partner did. They rang DH when dishwasher packed up. He went round to fix it. They had never cleaned the filter didn't know it existed. It's still a family joke 🤣 🤣

justasking111 · 17/09/2025 17:02

I've the original Dyson bought when they first came out. It lives upstairs. It's a heavy beast but still working well.

The shark is so light and once I took that silly roller bar off has worked well. Anything that can suck up those arrowhead black Labrador hairs that burrow in gets to stay in my house.

Wiseplumant · 17/09/2025 17:07

Dee03 · 16/09/2025 22:31

Mine is the same.

i went out and bought a Hetty corded vacuum a few days ago and my sanity has resumed 😄

Don't get your hopes up with Hetty, sure she can suck but she's always tying herself in knots, getting stuck, falling over or throwing herself down stairs.

NotPerfectlyAdverage · 17/09/2025 17:18

We had a Henry before. He couldn't go through the doors. He preferred to get wedged on the door frame then roll over if you gave the hose a pull. Loved that vacuum!

The shark has recovered from being dissected. However I have had to do the lift and moonwalk maneuver to get some of the dust up.

Fluffywabbits · 17/09/2025 17:22

I've got a corded shark anti-hair wrap model and love it. Doesn't snow plough like my Dyson did.

NigellaAwesome · 17/09/2025 17:28

I have the Shark corded stick and I love it! Really powerful and I like the headlights at the front. I own many hoovers - 2 sebo which are great but heavy, a Dyson cordless which doesn’t have great battery life, an old nilfisk, a Lidl cordless (not great but dd likes it), and 2 roombas, one of which mops apparently. The Shark is by far my favourite.

Magnalux · 17/09/2025 17:34

I got rid of my shark cordless.. drove me round the twist, have a Dyson now it’s so much better but it’s still not good enough so I have a Miele corded for when I’m doing a bigger clean and the Dyson for a quick run over the floor or any smaller jobs.

toomanydicksonthedancefloor1 · 17/09/2025 17:35

I couldn’t agree more!

KiwiFall · 17/09/2025 17:36

Yep. My shark is a waste of space. Bought as everyone at the time was raving about them!

butterdish93 · 17/09/2025 17:38

Whattt? I adore my cordless shark. He’s changed my life

O m g , I could have written this!
i absolutely hate my shark.
its constantly blocked .
the pipes are so difficult to detach for some reason it seems. mine faints at dust too, mainly because its always got a grain of sand in the dust box!
I even have pictures on my photofeed of it . But hoovers are expensive so it’s not being replaced any time yet .
love this post O P . Don’t mention the filters !!!!
