Which country will you move to if Reform win next election?

Faced with the prospect of NHS being sold off, ICE-style immigration raids and deportations, emboldened bigots, changes to the school curriculum, public services dessimated, leaving EHCR, I honestly think I'll have no choice but to leave. I don't want to but I couldn't bring DC up in fascist state.

Luckily my DH, DC and I are all dual nationals of an EU country so we have an escape route if needed and this country goes to the dogs.

Where would you go?

There's no way to solve them though? Politics is corrupted by billionaire donors, our FPTP voting system is unfair

Reform voters dont want to listen to warnings

What are we meant to do

I don't see a political solution at this point, sadly. Voting makes no difference, protesting makes no difference. This has been coming down the pipeline for years.

I am EU citizen, husband is british and we are making plans to move too. UK is a dump full of hate, what started off as anti illegal immigration protests ,now all the immigrants get whacked with the same stick. My family with young children has been stalked, harassed and my children have had to witness hate crimes over me having an accent when I speak-thats it,thats the only reason these looneys need to hate someone. I have had even a doctor making xenophobic comments aka why dont you go back where you came from.

Sorry to hear that. My DH also from abroad and give seen him be treated wrongly here because of it. I really hate the bigots out there

This is scaremongering I don’t know anyone in real life who supports reform I really hope it isn’t a thing 😢

Naive.

I am leaving because of Labour.

I’d hold out for another couple of years if I were you - there’s no way they will get in again next time.

I speak three languages and have an Italian passport, I'm sure I'll be fine thanks

Not sure that matters if you come across as English. Its not like you walk about waving your passport.
If you are Italian born and brought up then my post doesn't apply.

OP you said you turned off the radio when you heard Brexit had won. You’re a fool. Keir made the same mistake you are. If you don’t listen to people, understand their concerns, address them or at least show you’re listening what hope do you have of winning their vote.

Every word Nigel says is total nonsense, but I sort of hope they win to give the other parties a kick up the backside and get out of their middle class London centric bubble.

@Buddingbudde I didn’t turn off the radio. I was so upset but I thought ok, this is a democracy; this is what people want even tho I definitely felt it would affect us economically in the long term. I genuinely couldn’t see any positives.

So I was there… listening to the radio… watching TV … ok what’s the strategy? - are we going low tax haven vibe? , what are we going to do differently and more nimbly? What’s the plan ‘Government who held a referendum’ ??….

….and there was silence … oh there’s Cameron resigning… oh there’s Boris doing a runner… ok … still waiting for the plan… waiting waiting… how are we going to use our independence to become more prosperous as a nation??
waiting… waiting …
Should have just turned off the radio

GertrudePerkinsPaperyThing · 15/09/2025 21:49

I’d have the option of Italy initially, and once there claim my citizenship (it’s hard to get it from here because they make it very hard to get an appointment).

Then once I had that could move anywhere.

However, the nature of my job is such that I might feel honour bound to stay.

Yes it's been brewing for more than 40 years. We need to hit rock bottom before things can change

Currently looking at Bermuda, we have in demand qualifications but we’re quite old.

If Reform get in I would be devastated and desperate to get away

thetooththewholetooth · 15/09/2025 21:49

DC and I could get Irish passports, so that would open some options for us. DP might have to marry me for a passport ;)

Speak for yourself. If you have money and are skilled you can go anywhere you like. As Fromage will find out, when most of the top 20% fuck off and there is no-one left to pay for all the benefits of those who voted for him.

Labour are struggling with that now. I don’t think mners will be as much of an issue.

I don't get what the issue is.

Reform are basically a single issue party. Their entire election campaign is built on stopping small boat crossings. But everyone from all ends of the political spectrum agrees that human trafficking and the modern slave trade across the channel needs to stop, so what's the issue?

Apart from that, they would just be deporting people who don't have a legal right to be here. Again, something that everyone agrees on.

Some of their other policies are bonkers- but every 5 years, there's an opportunity to vote them out.

millymollymoomoo · 15/09/2025 21:50

Would actually stay if they got in. Can’t come soon enough

From the UK? I got mine at the Consulate in London

Can everyone please stop coming to Ireland we barely have enough houses for ourselves to be honest!

Was just about to say this. Normally we would say come on, it’s great here….. not so much anymore the country’s tipped as we say.

CherryVanillaPie · 15/09/2025 21:51

shuggles · 15/09/2025 21:46

You can walk into Ireland if you like because of the common travel area, and the complete absence of border controls at the land border between UK and Ireland.

But having a British passport doesn't give you any rights in Ireland, and it doesn't give you a right to work there or access healthcare.

Ok. I'm not personally looking to move to Ireland but when I googled it said the following about the Common Travel Agreement. I thought Irish people have the same rights in the UK?

You miss the point. It's what they would do in their 5 years in power that's the problem. Wreaking irreversible damage to systems, public sector etc.

I wouldn't be, because like the majority of people, I don't have the financial capacity to just up sticks to another country, even if I or my husband could satisfy the immigration requirements. Plus, none of us speak another language, so we would be severely limited - USA is out of the question and Aus is too far away.

No I don't want to live in a fascist state. But I would be willing to be part of the Resistance if it comes to that.

Crikeyalmighty · 15/09/2025 21:52

@Katemax82 Greece has nomad visa and it’s one if the easiest in Europe if you work for yourself , earn well and don’t need to work in the Greek economy. In fact anyone thinking bollocks to Reform and in this position should check out where you can go and the conditions - bearing in mind if you need schools etc . We don’t . There is a lot of choice. Sadly Sweden Denmark, Netherlands and France don’t have it but many others do including Spain and Italy . I think Farage might find if many high earners do leave that he can do suprisingly jack shit of the kind of bullshit he spouts with not a bottomless pit of cash - a bit like they are finding at the councils -

NotEnoughKnittingTime · 15/09/2025 21:53

Bushmillsbabe · 15/09/2025 21:04

Yes, everyone could theoretically move to Ireland, but I don't think they could work or have recourse to any public funds or services. This would only apply to those with Irish residency - which for us wouod be my DH and our girls, but not myself for first 2 years of living there.

I think they can due to the agreement between UK and Ireland.

Nestingbirds · 15/09/2025 21:54

I love England - we have worldwide opportunities but I would rather stay here and straighten out the problems personally. Every country that is worth living in face exactly the same problem folks.

Anyahyacinth · 15/09/2025 21:55

Screamingabdabz · 15/09/2025 20:57

Oh get a bloody grip. The uk is fine and will be fine. There are worse things than Farage - the planet’s fucked for goodness sake. Just keep calm and carry on!

How much do you think you’ll be asked to pay for his ‘insurance model’ healthcare?

Marcipix · 15/09/2025 21:55

I don’t know where I could go. I will be just retirement age, in constant pain, and relying on the nhs.
I think I’d better just jump off a cliff. I could make a protest banner to unroll as I fall.
I would welcome alternative suggestions though.

Allegedly. Though they haven't taxed the wealthy yet, it's the fear that they might for some.

Oh my god that’s awful @Krenonges am really sorry that’s happened.

This country has gone weird because a lot of people have got poorer. Instead of blaming the 1% who own half the land in the country, they’re blaming other poor people who aren’t like them.
