Which country will you move to if Reform win next election?

Faced with the prospect of NHS being sold off, ICE-style immigration raids and deportations, emboldened bigots, changes to the school curriculum, public services dessimated, leaving EHCR, I honestly think I'll have no choice but to leave. I don't want to but I couldn't bring DC up in fascist state.

Luckily my DH, DC and I are all dual nationals of an EU country so we have an escape route if needed and this country goes to the dogs.

Where would you go?

You are tarring everyone with the same brush.

Reactionary and foolish.

I'm concerned about immigration but I certainly don't hurl abuse at anyone. Not do I wish them harm.

Your thought process is mind boggling!

Well, I'm glad to hear that you don't hurl abuse at anyone. Sadly, there are lots of people who do.

As for tarring everyone with the same brush, I haven't said that anyone with concerns about immigration is motivated by racism and hate. What I am saying is that I hold people directly responsible for their voting decisions, and if they choose to vote for a racist, far right party, then I will of course draw my own conclusions from that.

Please clarify what you mean by describing my posts as "reactionary". Also, please tell me what you find mind-boggling about my thought processes... what exactly is it that you don't understand about the notion that people who abhor racism wouldn't ever contemplate voting for an inherently racist party, regardless of what they might be concerned about?

In our local care home, migrant workers (58 of them) have moved from India to fill long term vacancies. Without them, there would be no care, UK citizens have not applied for the advertised vacancies. The Indian workers are all here solo, living in rooms provided on-site.

My LA also has masses of jobs in care, in school cleaning and caretaking, passenger assistants, WRAC staff - all advertised and readvertised. Plenty of vacancies for our population.

It always amazes me to see people post this sort of anecdote, and yet see no problem with the society we’ve built.

If you read it in a Dickens novel you’d be horrified at the way things used to be.

1one · 16/09/2025 20:22

All I saw were people busy pissing in the street, fighting with the police and yelling at women to 'get your tits out.'

Are you talking about the Notting Hill Carnival?

DH has an appointment this week to get a German passport, we've got serious plans to go to France in the not too distant future. But then we'd also consider anywhere else in Europe!

Bankrupt France? Good luck with that!

Which countries either have no immigration pressures politically or have already sorted out hardline policy?

I can’t think of many, but maybe there are. They all seem to be facing similar issues or have out in place policy already.

???

So are you all saying you would prefer Labour to stay in ? I'll be voting for reform.

Interesting. Apart from immigration, can you tell me about their other policies, why they appeal and if you can afford insurance based healthcare?

@Humdingerydoo As an Iraqi Jew with dual EU citizenship, I don't know where I'd go as nowhere seems particularly safe for my family.

Doesn't Israel allow all Jews to immigrate and eventually become citizens?

Edited

yes, hence the settlements ever expanding. We could all become Jews and actually move there.

@BeHappySloth strange isn’t it all these posters coming out the woodwork who never seemed to post when the Tory’s were in power creating a catastrophic decline in services, allowing huge amounts of immigrants plus family in ‘to fill gaps’ - issues they created with Brexit. Going on now about tax etc- when actually Labour have changed very little on the tax front for the average Joe. As it happens I have managed to get a GP appointment within 4 days this week and we have absolutely vast amount of road repairs going on . My father in law has had a referral by his GP for some quick private paid treatment ( he doesn’t have to pay) and personally I think Labour are having a better go at stuff than the Tory’s did . I didn’t agree with the employers NI earnings rise but that’s about it - and I’m a Lib Dem voter. If the press keep posting the shit of ‘the gvt are useless’ then we get into the ‘it must be true I read it in the Sun’ territory - unfortunately for Labour they also have the ‘honey and tea for everyone, let’s just invent cash ‘ well meaning but unrealistic if the far left to deal with too

I am constantly perplexed by those who insist Labour, a party that has been in power for 1 year are totally to blame for the UK’s woes while the Tories in power for the previous 15 have zero culpability.

Weird!

momtoboys · 16/09/2025 20:54

Come to the US. Nothing going on here! 😂 I'd give anything to be able to move back to Ireland.

ladygindiva · 16/09/2025 20:54

Another with an eye on Ireland here. I have an Irish mother (moved to England as a child) which I think helps?

Lafufufu · 16/09/2025 20:54

RhododendronFlowers · 16/09/2025 18:59

Yes, I thought Singapore was an interesting place, but it's not exactly liberal, is it? Plus, gay male relationships are illegal. Perhaps @Lafufufu isn't concerned?
It seems not everyone wants to move somewhere more liberal or "free".

Do I agree with their policy - absolutely not
Do i think its wrong? Absolutely
It is something i can compromise on? Yep...

"Perfect utopias" dont exist... so you have to compromise and pick from what's available.
Dubai is hard no for me. Loads of others love it...

Those citing Ireland are beyond naive. It's a decade or so behind the UK on illegal immigrating , COL is out of control, there's a housing crisis and immigrating and integrating is very very difficult - they just dont like the English (who can blame them!) I'm irish (& look it) but have an english accent and i can just feel the change and the froider in shops etc as soon as you speak and they hear the accent.

Elon Musk addressing the rally and urging people to fight gave me a turn. He will back Farage with his money.

No he won’t. He’s denounced Farage in favour of Tommy Robinson. Do keep up.

You're absolutely right - perfect utopias do not exist.
Too many people on here think that "European countries" are such places. While Singapore and Dubai have rigid social structures and somewhat harsh policies, at least they are up front about it.
You are clear about Singapore having anti gay laws and severe measures. Fine.
.to add: you made good points about Ireland.

Rainydayinlondon · 16/09/2025 21:01

LakieLady · 16/09/2025 14:03

Yes, I've been to Co Galway twice. The first time we had 2 sunny days in a fortnight, the second time it rained every day, although it was mostly showers with sunny spells in between.

You don't get snow though. My Co Galway born friend didn't see snow until she came to London in the early 90s. She was really exicted to see it, and ran out into the garden in her dressing gown and slippers, then ran straight back in complaining that we'd never told her snow was "fekking cold and fekking wet".

I knew someone in 1985 who got sunburned in Galway
And I have experienced snow in Connemara

You’d be absolutely mad to move to France. Cheap wine and lovely food but the social climate is horrendous at the minute if you think England’s bad bloody hell!

Does it bother you that Denmark’s immigration policy is far more extreme than ours?

Plenty of places where their Reform equivalents are (and for years have been) minority parties with zero likelihood of becoming the ruling party. I would head there.

I didn’t mention values in the post you quoted though?

I don’t think it gets much more extreme than ours in fairness. Maybe Canada.

sleepwouldbenice · 15/09/2025 23:17

It genuinely worries me that people dont realise this. The economy tanked when truss did her budget as the markets knew it was unaffordable
Farage would be so much worse, much bigger scale
And it will mostly be the people that voted for him that would suffer the most
I'll be fine, I can leave if I want to

The markets are far worse now thanks to Reeves. BoE spooked the markets and then they recovered quickly. We’re now in long term decline, with no sign of recovery.

ThamesmeadHammer · 16/09/2025 21:12

We're off to Spain the end of October, having had our visas approved. Both 55, both decided to quit work, sell the flat and take a chance on life. DS, his wife and our granddaughter are coming with us - DIL holds Irish passport.
If it works it works, if not than we will cross that bridge

I love the UK, love London deeply but feel it's time to leave, especially with all the uncertainty of the right and far right gaining power (won't be a government just yet).
Deep down I know I will return one day, but for now I need a break.

Hardest thing is my constant arguments with wife, DS and DIL about the far right - I'm very much Labour and a typical lefty.
We now have safe words for when it gets too much....

They all voted for Brexit - despite me telling them how it will affect our future.

Maybe the country does need Farage and Robinson - I certainly do not want to be here when that time happens.

That’s not the case? Denmark, Poland, Australia, Greece? probably others are more hardline

If they are more lax then similar issues eg ROI, Germany France, others
