Which country will you move to if Reform win next election?

Faced with the prospect of NHS being sold off, ICE-style immigration raids and deportations, emboldened bigots, changes to the school curriculum, public services dessimated, leaving EHCR, I honestly think I'll have no choice but to leave. I don't want to but I couldn't bring DC up in fascist state.

Luckily my DH, DC and I are all dual nationals of an EU country so we have an escape route if needed and this country goes to the dogs.

Where would you go?

Governments are short lived. I don’t run away from problems . That’s what’s wrong with the world atm. Everyone running to where they think the grass is greener. We survived the troubles, we’ll survive a poxy government IF it even happens.

Many western governments originally supported Putin and considered him a great ally to the west in the fight against terrorism. They’ve all done exactly the same thing in the past and praised him publicly. Yet now all of a sudden..,

Putin has gone from indicating that Russia would like to join NATO 20 years ago, to invading a peaceful country 10 years ago, to sending drones into Poland and Hungary's airspace today. I can't imagine why the West's attitude towards him has changed.

unsurewhattodoaboutit · 16/09/2025 12:00

@Crochetandteaits pretty hard to undue problems. Look at Brexit. I will be dead by the time they reverse that shit show!

dismantling the NHS- that will never recover. It’s barely recovered from 14 years of the Tories. It’s not running away it’s just acknowledging that we only get one life why do I spend it in a country that doesn’t value anyone except the very wealthy or the uneducated!

Putin is a gangster. But the West has screwed the Russia people over since Soviet Union collapsed. Look at all the Russian billionaires in Western capitals, especially London.
They own land , castles , houses in Knightsbridge, huge yachts and football clubs. And they didn't earn that money. They stole it from the Russian state / people with the connivance of the City.
Putin got in to stop that , originally.

If you read my post I did say there have been anti immigration riots but I was primarily discussing why a party like Reform have not become so popular in Ireland (yet!!)

Are there any Reform style parties to vote for?

I have noted elsewhere though, irrespective of number of immigrant if things are going well parties like Reform lose appeal. When I lived in Oz, I often commented the reason parties like Reform have far less support is the Oz economy is doing far better.

Crikeyalmighty · 16/09/2025 12:32

@Gladysknightgottogetaholdofmyself that’s exactly what they are cannon fodder - he knows exactly what bells to pull - note how he rarely mentions Brexit - because he knows full well it has yielded jack shit of any benefit - he knows people feel frustrated about falling standards but readily admits ex Tory’s in who were actually part of the architects of the falling standards. He knows it’s acceptable amongst certain voters to put the blame on immigrants, ( but only non wealthy and not white ones) - rather than admit many past policies by the Tory’s in particular ( and a few Labour ones too) have contributed to where we are - we are not the USA, we don’t have endless access to cash, we don’t have a domestic market in size that is its own EU and we don’t have a population that accepts that in order to get low tax you will be paying for it in very many other ways if you want society to function - some of society simply hear the anti immigration message and think it solves everything else in a heartbeat - it simply doesn’t -

Lafufufu · 16/09/2025 12:33

We are planning for Singapore.

We will keep the London house though.

They'll do one term when they get in (& they will get in) and then be back out after

My biggest concern as a dualie is that Reform would strip dual citizens of their British nationality unless they gave up their other nationality. It's not official policy but it has been voiced by some in the party. Hopefully the fact that Farage's children are dual nationals would prevent it from happening.

Huge concern for me too. We shall see. I don’t want to just have a British passport.

Verv · 16/09/2025 12:34

Nowhere, im staying in Scotland.

Chunkychips23 · 16/09/2025 12:51

With my husbands job, he has the opportunity to work in many countries, so we’d just pick the one with the least bigots 😂

This thread is just catastrophising imo

Catastrophising!! The real catastrophe would be Labour winning a second term. As for Corbyn, I really would leave the country if that lunatic got into power. Within five years he’d turn Britain into a dystopian nightmare.

RhododendronFlowers · 16/09/2025 13:01

Don't worry, @Dappy777 - there is absolutely no way that Corbyn will ever come to power. He couldn't even manage it leading a mainstream party with all that backing and support.

Neither would Farage, who has two. (So have many of the more swivel-eyed loons in the Ultra Staunch Right, who created a rush at the time of Brexit in their sudden desire for an Irish passport.)

Trendyname · 16/09/2025 13:10

RhododendronFlowers · 16/09/2025 11:47

No, indeed. See the Guardian article about Dublin upthread.

I just read. It’s horrible. I knew anti immigration sentiment is on rise in Ireland but this is a very dangerous situation. I blame social media for spreading hate and brainwashing young people.

Someone said this is the article and I agree with this-

“I think that some people’s fear of being left behind is being hijacked by a small minority of toxic individuals whose only objective is chaos, hatred and a divided society.”

Not sure what solution would help both sides. Maybe focus on skill building from very young age through education and vocational studies and improved economy will help to some extent and point based immigration like it’s in Switzerland.

Ionlymakejokestodistractmyself · 15/09/2025 21:21

Ireland seems to be doing quite well. I wouldn't mind moving there but I'm not sure the DC would be happy. I wonder if English children would be more likely bullied there. So I'll have to stay in England. The area I live is at least very liberal - I don't know anyone personally who would vote Reform.

They’d not be bullied at all, Ireland’s got loads of English here.
Maybe some comedy ribbing once in a while as they get older but any real animus has never been personal. (It’s about the British state and not the British people, if it’s encountered at all)

It already is a Dystopian nightmare to be perfectly honest with you, so what’s new?

Also, that’s your political opinion. Catastrophising is jumping ahead and predicting worst case scenarios.

Your keyboard appears to be autocorrecting ‘Thatcherite’ to ‘Marxist Communist’, Doris.

Indeed. If Labour were even the Labour of Harold Wilson, not exactly a raging Trot, things wouldn’t be so parlous.

Krenonges · 16/09/2025 13:58

Thanks for all the comments.

It is all a bit depressing. Everything is now a dichotomy between left and right in the UK and beyond. I really miss the moderate centre ground where people were reasonable and pragmatic.

I hope we can ride this one out whatever happens. For now I'll stay in my small corner of Wales

Oh but the rain! It really doesn't stop!

Yes, I've been to Co Galway twice. The first time we had 2 sunny days in a fortnight, the second time it rained every day, although it was mostly showers with sunny spells in between.

You don't get snow though. My Co Galway born friend didn't see snow until she came to London in the early 90s. She was really exicted to see it, and ran out into the garden in her dressing gown and slippers, then ran straight back in complaining that we'd never told her snow was "fekking cold and fekking wet".

HerewardtheSleepy · 16/09/2025 14:06

Why in God's name should I go anywhere?

It's the old story. The right has no morals and the left has no backbone.

I talk to my partner about this all the time they don't like seeing people prosper and be happy. It's self harm and I don't mind talking to them about their soft palates. They honestly believe they will get more PIP and UC if they get rid of all foreigners out of the country. Without people paying taxes we will get poorer and poorer. Let them vote in Farage and then you will see chaos.

Might as well vote Lib Dems

Exactly even if all immigrants went there's not going to be more money for UC iirc folk thought the same if we gained independence in Scotland.
For arguments sake if all immigrants were jettisoned it would be a case of move on to the next vulnerable group because it definitely wouldn't stop there.
