Which country will you move to if Reform win next election?

Krenonges · 15/09/2025 20:21

Faced with the prospect of NHS being sold off, ICE-style immigration raids and deportations, emboldened bigots, changes to the school curriculum, public services dessimated, leaving EHCR, I honestly think I'll have no choice but to leave. I don't want to but I couldn't bring DC up in fascist state.

Luckily my DH, DC and I are all dual nationals of an EU country so we have an escape route if needed and this country goes to the dogs.

Where would you go?

Music to my ears.

Well you don't know me, not sure what I've done for you to want me to leave...!
If just thousands of people like us left- an experienced, decent state school teacher and an experienced, senior NHS clinician- due to not wanting to live under a far-right government, that's not great for the country.
Would be ironic if Farage had to bring in some immigrants to replace highly skilled professionals emigrating....

HostaCentral · 15/09/2025 22:57

I would not vote Reform ever. Farage is a dangerous misogynistic clown.

However, I do find it somewhat contrary, that so many PPs decry the potential dismantling of the NHS, but are happy to move to countries that don't have national health service, but have insurance based based systems provided by private healthcare. It's the one thing I could get on board with for this country too.

Canopop · 15/09/2025 20:37

This is scaremongering I don’t know anyone in real life who supports reform I really hope it isn’t a thing 😢

You don't have to know someone personally for something to be real.

Allthegoodnamesarechosen · 15/09/2025 22:57

France : le Pen
Germany: AFD
Holland : Wilders

Sweden : who knows but they are getting desperate.

Poland and Hungary wouldn’t do, they are Reform already. I suppose one of the very small Baltic States might do, but I wouldn’t bank on a warm welcome

( Italy is doing well, but that’s because they moved to the right some time ago)

Oh yes , Spain! Net Zero, high taxation, extreme trans approbation…of course, they are demonstrating against foreigners but…..

Dorisbonson · 15/09/2025 22:57

Fleetheart · 15/09/2025 22:49

Oh Doris you cannot be serious

Rachel Reeves - useless
Milliband - created energy bills three times higher than the USA and wants our bills to be even higher.
Raynor - naive at best, hypocrite at worst
Starmer - incompetent and can't take decisions, coward
Phillipson - destroying the education system, reducing standards

They are failing in multiple policy areas. They are a zombie government who will achieve nothing before the next election and we have to cope with them being useless and on political life support until then.

Fair point, I'm aware of this too. Maybe grass not greener

I think it's also a disappointment in me when I see how many British people fall hook line and sinker for Farage and co

People are trying all options. There were conservative in power for so long, then came labour and now people have loser patience and are able to see any sign of progress in the right direction, so I guess they are willing to give Farage a chance. BTW, I am a brown skin migrant but kind of understand why some voters would vote for Reform.

Namitynamename · 15/09/2025 22:58

It's.my country too. Regardless of who gets elected.
Elon Musk is what is as a "conflict entrepreneur". He probably believes what he says but he also wants to cause fear and division. So telling his supporters at the rally that they should "expect violence and fight back" is a very manipulative way of pushing people further into extremism and possibly violence by telling them the other side want to get them. But, it also works in reverse on people who don't like Elon Musk or support the march. Because we are literally seeing them being encouraged to do actual violence. So everyone gets pushed more into their camps if you let him manipulate you. You saw that happen in 2016 after Trump's first election. I don't think it was unavoidable.

Musk spent the last summer squawking about how civil war is inevitable. There was no civil war in 2024 but he clearly hasn't given up hope it will happen. The truth is, the majority of people on that march wouldn't want to fight "the left". That's not the same as saying I agree with them. I disagree with them and I think the actual organisers of the march are racist prats.

But making plans to leave the country feels a bit doommongery.

Why haven't you already left with Labour "running" the show? You would hardly be stupid enough to think that reform would be worse than Labour?

My God. It's incredible you can be so blind
Other than
Immigration, immigration, immigration
Ccancelling what
they call "net stupid zero" and pretending they'll get rid of the 2 child benefit cap, what policies do they have that you like? You do realise their maths really doesn't add up? So much worse than Truss? Do you remember what that did?

Sherbs12 · 15/09/2025 22:59

Tauranga · 15/09/2025 22:04

These types of threads show how we can all access the same information but come to radically different conclusions.

● PP said the top 20 % of earners will leave if Reform wins. This is a crazy idea as currently the top earners and businesses are leaving due to massive tax hikes and hidden tax hikes. Reform want lower taxes and lower business rates.

● Reform are racist. Their second in command is a brown Muslim....does this show they are not racist?

● Reform voters want benefits. I cannot figure this one out. The current Labour government has seen an increase in overall benefits including a huge increase in disability.

● Reform will send illegal immigrants back. Yes, this is true but I think you'll find every country in the West will begin this. Truthfully we annotation fit every person into Brigain who wants to come. Africa and India would sink the UK physically. Not figuratively. I mean this sincerely.

●Reform are fascists. Well, I doubt many of you know what this means as if you did you'd realise they are far removed from fascists, and perhaps the current government is more closely aligned with this description.

I had the same information as you all, and this is how I perceive Reform. Interesting that people can get such different ideas from the same input.

How do you perceive their proposed policy of negotiating with and paying the Taliban to return female asylum seekers to Afghanistan?

Portugal or Wales

Edited

We're in Wales. Shan't be moving because the children and grandchildren are here. We tried to buy a home in Portugal twenty years ago but they sold it to a family member. I still love the silver coast but it's too late for us now.

TATT2 · 15/09/2025 23:00

They won't be in for long if at all - I'd wait it out.

SpottyAardvark · 15/09/2025 20:49

What a load of hysterical nonsense.

As a pro-European centrist I certainly won’t be voting for Reform, but I won’t be panicking about them winning the next election either. Farage isn’t a budding dictator or an unhinged psychopath or even a narcissistic orange moron like Trump. He is a legitimate mainstream democratic politician with whom I happen to disagree on most issues. Just like Margaret Thatcher was. Or Jeremy Corbyn. The fact that Farage absolutely refuses to work with or share platforms with Tommy Robinson or allow him anywhere near Reform speaks volumes.

He refuses to share a platform with Tommy because that would turn the dog whistle into an airhorn, that is the only reason. He NEEDS plausible deniability to stay mainstream, but the man is dangerous, mainly because he is so PR savvy.

Crikeyalmighty · 15/09/2025 23:00

@CheeseyOnionPie so true - he pulls all the right bells though for the gullible , rose tinted glasses, xenophobia, likes a pint ( my son tells me apparently it’s well known in parliament he doesn’t - my son has lots of friends in House of Commons jobs - ) There seems to be some kind of idea that anyone not thinking he’s Jesus Christ has to be a radical leftie ! I’m not , can’t stand Corbyn either and his naivety too or the idea that all must have prizes , I’m not particularly pro positive discrimination either - however Reform are attracting every single weirdo opportunistic scammer I know to their candidates - people desparate to stay relevant, get a bit of the action - the right wing has cash to burn and dodgy funders too - it’s about power and cash - it is not about helping out’ordinary’ people struggling along - and Brexit of course, as a prime example of judgement , what an enormous success it’s been -

swingingbytheseat · 15/09/2025 23:00

Covid and Brexit bought on this recession. Fuck all to do with rich people or small boats. I still believe in the UK

They do. They just don’t admit it. Sadly I think reform is a very real possibility.

I think we have to take Reform winning as a serious possibility. But all this talk of moving is very defeatist. If that is how you feel, why not spend the energy you are putting into plans to move into trying to prevent Reform winning? For example, Hope not Hate has some great campaigns you could join. Or it could be about talking to friends about the immigration etc.

Sherbs12 · 15/09/2025 23:02

@Dorisbonson So the government is both ‘Marxist communist’ and ‘quasi communist’ simultaneously? Incredible.

NapoleonsToe · 15/09/2025 23:02

Anyahyacinth · 15/09/2025 21:59

Again what do you expect to pay for insurance based healthcare?

Many countries in Europe have hybrid healthcare systems, partially public funded, partially insurance funded. As an ex NHS employee of nearly 30 years I can confidently say they work a bloody sight better than the NHS.

MorningLarkEchoes · 15/09/2025 23:03

MyrtleLion · 15/09/2025 22:45

It's scaremongering.

Labour have only nhad just over a year to start refunding the services that the Tories demolished for 14 years with austerity. And they're doing it in conditions of a very tight economy.

It still feels bad, but the Workers' Rights Bill and the Housing legislation will give ordinary people more rights to stay in their jobs and their homes then they've had for 40 years. And that's just the start. Soon the rebuilding of hospitals and greater funding of the NHS will show as wellm

It takes a long time to rebuild what was destroyed in a short time.

The voters are backing Farage as a protest. When it comes to the real election, the best he can hope for is to come third behind the Liberal Democrats and ahead of the Tories, if he is lucky.

There is no magic wand that makes it better except a Labour government. Sure they've made mistakes, but their worst is a thousand times better than Farage or the Tories' best.

I’m a life long ‘Tory’ voter. Reform wouldn’t be my first choice, but if it’s a choice between them and Labour then it won’t be Labour I will be voting for.

Maybe Spain? But very hoy. Or Switzerland?

Winning the lottery would help

Fun facts: Switzerland’s current government is run by a populist right wing party.
