Which country will you move to if Reform win next election?

Krenonges · 15/09/2025 20:21

Faced with the prospect of NHS being sold off, ICE-style immigration raids and deportations, emboldened bigots, changes to the school curriculum, public services dessimated, leaving EHCR, I honestly think I'll have no choice but to leave. I don't want to but I couldn't bring DC up in fascist state.

Luckily my DH, DC and I are all dual nationals of an EU country so we have an escape route if needed and this country goes to the dogs.

Where would you go?

Can everyone please stop coming to Ireland we barely have enough houses for ourselves to be honest!

And therein lies the perennial problem. Everyone almost everywhere feels the same.

Yes, it's so much easier now...

Muppet.

Where there's a will there's a way. Love big bird.

Well that’s a nonsense because the result wasn’t declared at 10 pm that night – it didn’t come through until the early hours of the morning. So now I suspect you’re a scaremongering bot

well that’s why she said that! so confident it would be remain… Don’t be so insulting when you can’t understand a simple implication! Why call someone a liar?

Trendyname · 15/09/2025 22:46

SomersetBrie · 15/09/2025 20:29

We have Irish passports so that's one option. If I had the money I quite fancy Switzerland.

I live in Switzerland and believe it or not I was waiting for things to get better because I miss UK especially London even though Switzerland provides more safety and money but it can be a bit dull.

Caplin · 15/09/2025 22:47

If Reform won it would be awful, not least because they would actually realise the power of political gravity. It is one thing to offer the moon on a stick to your followers and have them believe your misinformation, but getting into power and actually leading with no money and myriad issues is where the wheels come off. When Brexit happened where was Farage? He wasn’t helping on implementation, he was moaning from the sidelines, he ran away because it was hard. He was making money sucking up to Trump.

So I don’t need to leave, Reform will rip themselves apart pretty fast when they realise they don’t know how to get anything done. Just look at the councils they are failing to run. They are mad as a box of frogs.

WilfredsPies · 15/09/2025 22:47

Krenonges · 15/09/2025 22:27

So I'm supposed to feel sorry for Reform voters spouting abuse and hatred??? They're digging their own grave

I've already lived in Italy and it was absolutely fine. It's completely different if you speak the language and can communicate with people.

No, I’m not asking you to feel sorry for anyone. I’m asking you to open your eyes and think critically about how we’ve got to this situation, and then ask yourself whether you’ve ever done anything to contribute to someone thinking that Reform is a better option than being called a bigot for being concerned about something.

How long ago did you live in Italy? Because up until fairly recently, that same thing could be said about the UK. There’s already a post from someone in Italy on here confirming that’s not the case anymore.

smallpinecone · 15/09/2025 22:23

None of them moved elsewhere either.

Actually the French groups on Facebook and other social media sites are jammed with Americans asking about, or actually packing up and leaving the US! Plenty already living there and loving it, the same with Spain.

StupidRules · 15/09/2025 22:47

Trendyname · 15/09/2025 22:44

Why won’t you tell the name of the country you would move to first?

She's already said Ireland. Where you have to pay 50 quid for a GP appointment.

Sherbs12 · 15/09/2025 22:48

Calmomiletea · 15/09/2025 22:37

Why haven't you already left with Labour "running" the show? You would hardly be stupid enough to think that reform would be worse than Labour?

In what ways would Reform be better, specifically? Which of their policies is it that you think would most benefit the population?

Mathsbabe · 15/09/2025 22:49

I have NZ nationality. Need to check if I could take DH. DC can also live in NZ.

It's an option for any British citizen reading this thread. Brits do not need an Irish (or other EU) passport to move to Ireland. There is complete freedom of movement between the two countries. Irish citizens can move the to the UK at any time, no questions asked, and the reverse is true as well.

swingingbytheseat · 15/09/2025 22:51

Portugal or Wales

Exactly @Buddingbudde - people are getting poorer and poorer inspite of voting Brexit. But instead of demanding more from the wealthy and the 1% of people who own 50% of the land in this country, they’re focusing on other poor people who are often in a worse state than they are. They’re not looking at the real reason why their lives are tougher (greater and greater disparity between rich and poor) - they’re just believing jingoistic slogans about people on boats taking all their money. I’m not doubting some people are affected massively. I lived in Haringey for 30 years and only saw benefits to multiculturalism but I’m sure others genuinely feel bad. But I can promise them than it’s the poor distribution of wealth that’s causing their problems and Farage is in no way going to look at ways to fix. So they will be in a worse state potentially.

Your Marxist communist labour party has policies which are destroying the UK. Destroying the economy, employment levels, investment and not bothering to prosecute crime.

Those who can are leaving.

Italy is transforming it's economy by welcoming millionaires from the UK who are creating jobs and investment there. The same thing is happening in Dubai.

Multiple Nobel laureates have left the UK.

Your quasi communist government which loves criminals and immigrants is turning the UK into the worst place to live in Europe. Your answer is to tax the rich - guess what? They are leaving, you can't tax them because they are going, but they are making other countries rich, they are creating jobs in those places.

Your Marxist communist energy minster who refuses to be interviewed has created a situation where our energy bills are three times higher than the USA. Our manufacturing industries are dying. People are losing their jobs.

Your Marxist labour government don't care what happens to people, you just want to take everyone to pay for criminals, scroungers and immigrants.

People like you won't be happy until we have achieved equality by living in net Zero mud huts.

Scotland and then voting for independence.

UneFoisAuChalet · 15/09/2025 22:53

I’ve been here nearly 20 years and this is it for me. The place sickens me. I’m lucky that my home country is a lovely, peaceful place. I would have never ever come here all those years ago if I knew it would degenerate into this mess. I always wondered what would it take for me to go home and for years it was always that the kids were settled but racists being allowed free rein and talk of leaving ECHR actually scares me.

I’ve always argued that heathcare and education are not privileges but rights in all countries. And the current state of education (as a former teacher, since the start of September, I have literally been receiving 3/4 emails a day with job offers because no one wants to teach in England) and the dire state of the NHS leads me to believe we’re heading into a disaster.

My husband is English and he agrees the place is so depressing. We can see what the issues are but instead brown people and boats are to blame. Ten years ago it was the Eastern European. Round and round we go. Whatever news Murdoch puts out is bought hook line and sinker.

We won’t be around for the next election and I doubt we’ll even bother reading about it. No longer our circus.

Elon Musk addressing the rally and urging people to fight gave me a turn. He will back Farage with his money.

Are people still listening to him?

Ketzele · 15/09/2025 22:53

I have an Irish passport and am applying for a German one.

jbm16 · 15/09/2025 22:53

Krenonges · 15/09/2025 20:45

If Reform het in then it will be a catastrophe.

Farage is an admirer or Putin, been on Russian TV 17 times. Will do things to appease American right wing backers eg roll back abortion rights

People have no idea what they are about to unleash.

I personally don't see it happening, and even if they were to win, wouldn't win a majority, their voting voting will be limited.

Grass isn't alway greener, lots of European countries have their own issues as well.

That wasn't how I read it, but of course EU freedom of movement also comes with an Irish passport. My point was that if anyone is reading the thread and thinking "Oh, Ireland might be nice, but I don't have the right passport", they in fact probably do. 🙏

Oh my god that’s awful @Krenonges am really sorry that’s happened.

This country has gone weird because a lot of people have got poorer. Instead of blaming the 1% who own half the land in the country, they’re blaming other poor people who aren’t like them.

But the wealthy don’t take anything directly from the poor; other poor people coming here do - housing, services, infrastructure, all strained because we are importing more poor people who will always be a financial drain. Unfortunately, people find it hard to tell the difference between those who are taking from them, and those who aren’t.
