Which country will you move to if Reform win next election?

Faced with the prospect of NHS being sold off, ICE-style immigration raids and deportations, emboldened bigots, changes to the school curriculum, public services dessimated, leaving EHCR, I honestly think I'll have no choice but to leave. I don't want to but I couldn't bring DC up in fascist state.

Luckily my DH, DC and I are all dual nationals of an EU country so we have an escape route if needed and this country goes to the dogs.

Where would you go?

Find it particularly tasteless that leftists are being blamed for the horrifying rape of the Sikh woman in Oldham.
No. No way.

Of course yeah. When?

Around the time of the next election. Timed well! Although we'd be happy for child to study abroad too.
In all seriousness, I think there will be an exodus of many on the left who can. We will go.

Yes it's been brewing for more than 40 years. We need to hit rock bottom before things can change

No, not 40 years. Since 1992/1993 to be precise. The introduction of freedom of movement within the EU. That's when it started, but it's really ramped up since 2015 and the wider migrant crisis from outside Europe.

Reform voters don't want to listen to warnings 🤦‍♀️ You aren’t getting it, are you? If you have ever called a Reform supporter and idiot or a racist then this is partly on you. The reason that horrible little man is doing so well is because every time someone has stuck their head over the parapet and raised a legitimate concern about anything, they have been shouted down and told that they are knuckle dragging bigots and that they are just too stupid to debate. Anyone remember Gordon Brown forgetting his mike was still on? So then along comes Nige, with his salmon coloured trousers, a pint in one hand and a fag in the other, telling them that of course they’re not bigots, and they just need to put their trust in him, and he’ll make it all better and fix the utter fuck ups caused by Labour and the Tories. And because he’s bloody good at distraction techniques, and because people are desperate to believe that someone can fix this shit show, nobody is paying attention to things like his plans for the NHS. And then when the inevitable happens, you and your privileged mates are horrified and can’t understand how it has got this bad, and are looking to fuck off to some lovely little ‘bigot’ free paradise. You think calling people names is warning them? You think that every single person attending protests up and down the country is a far right wing fascist racist? Of course they bloody aren’t. But the left has shouted people down for so long, that now we’ve got a situation where people are just tired of being told that they’re bigoted, which has led to the real monsters feeling emboldened to come out of the wardrobe and do horrific things like rape a woman because of the colour of her skin.

I speak three languages and have an Italian passport, I'm sure I'll be fine thanks I think you’ve got a nasty shock coming your way. If you’re not Italian, (born & bred, not just descended from) do you think Italians who are pissed off with immigration will give a shit about what colour your passport is? Do you think other countries will welcome you with open arms because you speak the language? Do you think it’s just the UK that is having this issue?

So I'm supposed to feel sorry for Reform voters spouting abuse and hatred??? They're digging their own grave

I've already lived in Italy and it was absolutely fine. It's completely different if you speak the language and can communicate with people.

I think part of the problem is that no one on the left actually wants to know anyone on the right. They’d prefer they didn’t exist and certainly aren’t interested in discussing the problems with them or trying to find any common ground, so ridicule and dismiss them, and then seem genuinely surprised when parties like Reform gain ground. Conservatives are just quiet. Make all the right noises, play along, but think and vote quite differently.

Saw it all the time on here before the Brexit vote. People absolutely convinced that Remain had it in the bag, because they didn’t know or associate with anyone who’d dream of voting to Leave…

That’s strange. When the coalition came to power in 2010 and started decimating public services and cutting benefits, it was only those on the left who vocally opposed it. The shit lives that people are experiencing now are a direct result of those austerity policies. Those on the right were the ones who wouldn’t listen. They didn’t give a toss about poor people. But now they’re blaming the left?

People voted Leave as a protest. Now I completely understand why they felt the need to protest, we don’t need educating as to why they’re unhappy, it’s obvious. But I will never understand why they chose to vote for such a reckless, self-harming act as Brexit. It was complete insanity. And now their lives are even worse than they were 9 years ago, they’re going to do exactly the same thing again. They won’t learn from their mistakes.

And instead of blaming the rich people that put them in that position, they blame immigrants.

I’m currently glad I didn’t go to what ended up being a Reform led council area. It may sound ridiculous but I’d really hate knowing that every day I woke up. I have to face the fact I may be in that position next year and I’ve looked at other areas already.
The country is bigger than that - obviously! I’m fairly restricted on that though maybe it would be less vomit inducing and maybe less impactful in a country not England but in the U.K. - or maybe you should stay and protest. I just don’t know yet.
Apart from the nausea I would get, there is the issue of how badly the U.K. would be run, looking at councils, and many policies I’m not sure many will like such as privatisation of health care and reduced employment rights as well.
Very sad that I assumed isms, hatred etc would continue to get less and less since the 70s it’s turning out to be the opposite.
I know it’s more widespread than the U.K. sadly too.
I do wonder though whether SYL et Al will continue to agitate as they definitely think Reform is a bit useless and not right wing enough. So imagine a Reform gov’t and still having protests such as those on Saturday - guess some will be living the dream but it gives me nightmares.

I can get dual citizenship for a very lovely place - so that’s an option for me.

Will you marry me? Or adopt me?

sunandfizz · 15/09/2025 22:30

Did anyone see this lunatic Reform woman at the Reform conference. WTF!

It's one of the funniest things I've seen in a while. Mad as a brush!

@Coolasfeck Farage is the reason we have the boat issue (Brexit) I’d be happy to blame him for all manner of things, but this just isn’t true.

We have the boat issue because it’s easier and cheaper for people traffickers to shove 70 people onto a rhib on a beach, rather than trying to get 20 people into a lorry without the driver, or any other driver noticing, then get it through security, then have to do it all again with the same people a day or two later if they get caught before the lorry boards the ferry.

If you’re talking about the Dublin agreement, Brexit made sod all difference.

But he'll go on Russian TV and praise Putin?

He presents himself well but there probably lots behind closed doors we don't know or see

Rightly or wrongly, surely it makes sense to be on the right side of someone as powerful as Putin?
You know what they say: 'Keep your friends close, and your enemies closer'...

Jibberishforever · 15/09/2025 22:32

Educate yourself. Italy doesn't want foreigners there and the attitude to immigrants is nowhere nearly as tolerant as in the UK.
We've been welcoming nearly a million every year for the past few and supported them.

If politicians were actually willing to implement the changes that the people wish to see, we wouldn’t have this issue. But they’re fundamentally opposed to it. The ordinary voter means nothing to these people. Politicians will do as they please, and they expect us to pretend to like it.

Nope. it's the government who quietly cancelled Brexit that's to blame.
Nearly a million per year welcomed here after people voted for brexit. And all the EU got settlement here.

deusexmacintosh · 15/09/2025 22:34

The Irish government needs to restrict passports and automatic citizenship to Brits with 1 Irish parent. Meaning their parent was born and raised on the island of Ireland ONLY. It's getting ridiculous.

My best friend was born in Manchester in the 1990s. both her parents originally from Co. Wicklow. entire family is Irish, she speaks Gaeilge and went to school in Ireland from 4 till 12 before her parents moved back to the UK again. She's an automatic citizen from birth, which makes sense since she's 100% irish.

its ridiculous to be giving passports to someone with 1 Irish grandparent. The Irish government won't even help actual Irish-born Irish diaspora in their 60s/70s still living in the UK to return to Ireland, but welcomes any old middle class British plastic paddy with deep enough pockets!with a granny passport and the money to buy a house!

The UK is 'different' if you 'speak the language and can communicate with people'.

But it's racist to want that, apparently 🙄

Andrea Jenkins told the Reform conference she would like to sing "Insomniac" - a song she write herself, but it only seems to have a chorus (luckily). But what does being an "insomniac, staring at the ceiling" have to do with the conference? And the sparkly jumpsuit.... ?
