My son has gone on the march

funkadelic · 13/09/2025 10:59

Hi, have been on here years but only lurk, don’t post. But today is the day.
I am in bits. My 22yr old DS is in London on this march. I am shaking and utterly appalled. We differ on politics massively and have done for some time. I work in education, have travelled and am bit of a lefty hippy but to be honest it’s becoming more about values and morals. He is fully immersed in the manosphere algorithm and I’ve always thought he is exploring himself and things and have chats about why he has the opinions he does and try and understand his point of view. I try not to belittle him but try and get him to critically think about things.
But this I can’t deal with. I am so upset that my son has gone to this, and that it is something that is so far away from me and my values, something that I thought I had instilled in him as well.
I am totally aware that it’s triggered embarrassment but that is my issue and I’m not putting that on him. He is still my son and I love him and his passion and interest in the world, just in something I believe is so wrong and makes me sad.
Please talk some sense into me.

Who was arrested for saying they love bacon?

smallpinecone · 13/09/2025 13:19

Immigrants who integrated and didn't foist their culture on the host country.

Agreed.

Pppppplease · 13/09/2025 13:19

What i find absurd is many of those voted for Labour when their manifesto was 'stop the boats' but now nothing has been done and people are kicking up about it all of a sudden they are far right racist thugs. Its laughable. If only 2 in every 1000 boat migrants held extremist views we would have already welcomed 20 potential terrorists into our country this year with open arms, free housing, 3 meals a day, easy access to dental and medical treatment (when those of us that pay for it can barely get an appointment), I don't see how anyone can say this is NOT an issue.

Our speech is being censored on social media.
People are being arrested and given custodial sentences for stating an opinion.
One man said he loves bacon and was arrested
It's getting ridiculous and it's getting worse.

How is your speech being censored on social media?

What can't you say?

People got prison sentences for inciting violence, something they agreed they did.

What I find scary is how divided the population are in general, how little different 'sides' listen to each other and how quick to jump to conclusions, how nasty people often are in their responses and also how trust in politicians and other 'leaders' is at all time lows. I think we will see a lot more chaos and violence over the next decade or two. I agree that this prospect is frightening.

There's no real discussion these days. Just people completely entrenched in their beliefs shouting at each other.

MrsSkylerWhite · 13/09/2025 13:19

smallpinecone · 13/09/2025 13:18

No, not true.

We’ve had more immigration in the last twenty years than we had in the previous thousand.

Please re-read my post. I said millennia. Since people were able to travel. I suggest you watch Human, extremely informative. You are likely descended from Africans.

People are arrested for threatening behaviour not opinions.

I bloody love bacon. I am sitting here now waiting for the Police to arrive. I won't hold my breath.

the nhs is reliant on immigrants and has been for many many years
we have very few home grown doctors and nurses

RussianDoll76 · 13/09/2025 13:20

You should be proud that your son has his own mind . It’s becoming increasingly rare that young people think for themselves as there is so much around them guiding them to think and act a certain way also to question a differing opinion. My children also have their own varied opinions and politics debating can become quite heated when they’re all together. Nothing extremist either way but I feel it’s healthy. I encourage them to research what they believe and never argue a point on hearsay . They are all however very open minded and this has diffused many an argument . If your son isn’t caught up with “all the things “ that would worry you then I would say you have done a great job of raising him and at 22 his views and opinions will change with the wind. It’s better to let him find his own path . Sadly I have friends who no longer speak to their children due to differences in political beliefs it’s so sad.

SouthernBelle21 · 13/09/2025 13:21

I hate the modern world and I'm scared for our young people. They're constantly being fed absolute shit on social media, and they don't have the intelligence and life experience to see what's right and wrong. They're too trusting of the information they're given.

The things my 22yo stepson comes out with regarding gender is absolutely bizarre. I'm not anti-trans, closer to the opposite, but DSS's views are so extreme it terrifies me.

It's not about what's right and what's wrong. Everyone's allowed a view. It's the fact that such extreme views are forced down people's throats in such a way that they know it'll get to them.. often with no argument to balance the view.

Hahaha are you SERIOUS? The problem is he DOESN'T have his own mind! He's being fed absolutely shit by social media algorithms.

Yes, resorting to obfuscation seems to be their MO- tedious!

How are asylum seekers 'very vocal'?

They use dodgy lawyers to yell about their "human rights" being compromised. In fact some moan about anything and everything.

How are people both failing to integrate and “foisting” their culture on their new countrymen and women at the same time? That makes no sense at all.

BurntBroccoli · 13/09/2025 13:22

apricotcobbler · 13/09/2025 13:12

If it was stable then it wouldn't 'topple'.

As it is, Labour are doing a very good job of making themselves superfluous to requirements without any help from the "right". 😃

When Labour took office in 2024, it inherited diminished public finances and weakened public services after 14 years of Tory rule.
Government debt was close to 100% of GDP, with borrowing running above forecasts and debt-interest eating up a share of spending.

Inflation had recently eased but left behind higher costs for everything from state benefits to public sector pay. NHS, housing, and local services under councils were under severe pressure.

The Tories also deliberately left Labour with little fiscal headroom meaning limited scope for tax cuts or major new spending without either raising revenue or tightening elsewhere.
Labour took power in July 2024 facing high debt, persistent deficits, overstretched services, and limited financial flexibility.

Is the quote I love bacon inciting violence? This person wasn't given a custodial sentence but was served a public offence order.
Since when has been liking bacon a crime?

Please look into the UK's safety Act.

I am a Labour voter and I believe the illegal, dangerous cross channel boats run by gangs should stop. They won't be stopped by shouting at hotels or hanging flags on lampposts. There should be a safer way to apply for asylum.

EarthlyNightshade · 13/09/2025 13:23

apricotcobbler · 13/09/2025 13:16

Because the 6% may be small but very vocal.

They are not evenly distributed throughout the UK, so "ghettos" form which impedes integration.

There's an article in the Mail today about how asylum seekers/migrants/illegal immigrants (they don't seem to know what they are) are being housed in ordinary streets in ordinary towns/villages. People don't seem to want that either.

Labour actually have police out checking people's IDs all the time to see if they are illegal and if they are they get taken away.
