I am looking to redecorate, my kitchen is very tired. I want something neutral enough or possibly light green. Anyone want to show me their kitchens for ideas? im really bad at this and find googling images just gives me perfect instagram kitchens. Thank you

Current sage green kitchen. We're hoping to move soon and the new kitchen will be yellow.

Lovely - and I love the way it leads up to your dining room. Your house looks rather special from these two rooms. 😍

So, our new kitchen is going in the former living room, which is open to the dining space.

Currently we have no oven (it's been in the garage since last Dec, so lots of airfrying), no taps (have been using a temporary tap in the old kitchen since Feb!) and no proper worktops, plus I'm still waiting for OH to make some doors for integrated dishwasher/recess wall cupboard/pull-out bin cupboard.

The cabinets are a mix of preloved (eBay finds) and a couple from the existing 1960s kitchen.

We had the wood burner installed soon after moving in last year when it was still a living room, but we had one in our previous kitchen and think it adds character, so going to keep it!

It's so much smaller than kitchens we've had previously, but I'm determined not to sacrifice style despite lack of space.

Edited

The colours are beautiful - so rich - and I like your eclectic style! 😍

This is mine. Not the best photo in the world, but the cabinets are a forest green colour.

What is the glass on the left? Is it bathroom glass, or glass ‘bricks’? It’s lovely.

This is mine, walls are Dulux jade white, just a hint of pale green.

It's not a fitted kitchen. I bought free standing tables from Amazon and I used an existing cupboard for storing food

Absolutely LOVE this.

Are they all tables, no fitted work surface? What are the baskets in, is it one of those ikea slotted cupboards? What are the advantages/disadvantages of having a kitchen like this? I rent, but if I had my choice I’d have something like this.

@LibertyLily , love the pictures from your update. It's so homely and welcoming, such a nice variety of textures and colours.

Thank you!

I love all the pictures of kitchens! You have beautiful homes.

I have a dilemma. We bought a house last year and loved the kitchen. Objectively, we think it’s better designed than our own interior design choices would have led us to.

Then we had a fire and have had to move out of the house for at least 6 months. Sad times 😕

It does mean, however, that we can redesign the kitchen from scratch. We’ve met the kitchen designer who installed it previously and looked at lots of different choices but we’re thinking of reinstating the kitchen as it was. We will change some things—slightly bigger island, oak effect tiled floors instead of grey, a few better fitted features like spice rack and chopping board rack, new appliances, but essentially it will be the same cabinetry and colour.

Looking at design advice, a lot of people advise neutral cabinetry and shaker styles as having the most longevity, but I feel I love the colours, they give me joy, and can always be repainted if I wanted cream later…

After lots of mulling about door styles, I think we will stick with the flat handle-less oak cabinetry, so it’s really about colours that I’m struggling. I’d welcome thoughts on whether others like it too, or whether it is very individual taste and I would be crazy to not change it to neutral palettes when I have the choice!

Oh heavens, I'm so sorry about your house fire and hope you get back into your home soon.
Yes, shaker doors in neutral colours have the greatest longevity, but you should go for colour if you like it and it fits well into the space (just make sure you choose solid wood doors which can be repainted easily in future years if you fancy a change or want to go more neutral). Good call on the floor - those grey tiles are the only thing I don't like about your former kitchen (so cold and concrete-looking). Oak-effect will look so much warmer (I may be biased though, having chosen oak-effect Amtico for my kitchen floor which is an absolute doddle to clean and looks great!).

I'm loving all these kitchen pics because I am nosey and they have inspired me to give mine a good clean 😁

@SpidersAreShitheads I remember your posts, they were so interesting and I love your finished kitchen.
I really like the exposed brick wall with the colour you have chosen.

I really want a new kitchen so this thread has been helpful. I really do not like the two colour cabinet trend, though.

TheBookShelf · 13/09/2025 17:21

My kitchen is fairly small, dated and intentionally very vintage looking. I love it. Quarry tiles, pale yellow walls, green and white tile splashbacks. Semi-fitted; some open shelving plus floor to ceiling cupboards/drawers. Original shelved larder adjacent. Vintage crockery, jars of home made jam. A 1950s table. Loads of cookery books. I'm a keen 'from scratch' cook and it's an old fashioned working kitchen with almost no gadgets. Definitely wouldn't suit everyone but suits me!

NoCommentingFromNowOn · 13/09/2025 17:32

@TheBookShelf its sounds like my sort of thing!

It’s a glass window between the lounge and kitchen. Thank you!

Mine. A small kitchen and I’ve just had the cabinet doors replaced. This is before I put stuff back which is why it’s so tidy.

I've got cream units so when I redecorated white or grey tiles didn't work. I found this lovely colour tile- duck egg maybe? Blue/green glossy and crazed. Love them

Mine’s an absolute tip so no way am I showing a photo, but I’ve got cream shaker cupboard doors, brown marbley worktop and floor, copper handles, and mustard yellow on the walls (sounds quite strong but it’s a big kitchen diner with a roof lantern and it works). When it’s clean and tidy it looks lovely, about once a year! If I were redoing it I’d go for flat cupboard doors. Much as I love the look of shaker style, it’s faff to clean. Flat ones you can quickly wipe down would be better.

A friend of mine is just redoing her kitchen with flat oak doors, cream worktop, and sage green walls, which I think looks gorgeous.

I am glad you said that..where are everyone's belongings..our sides always cluttered:(
