I am looking to redecorate, my kitchen is very tired. I want something neutral enough or possibly light green. Anyone want to show me their kitchens for ideas? im really bad at this and find googling images just gives me perfect instagram kitchens. Thank you

This is mine that’s 16 years old now and starting to come apart in places (the bin drawer is being held on with tape)! It was originally cream and wood but we had it resprayed a few years ago to freshen it up. Next year we want to massively overpay our mortgage before our low fixed rate ends so fingers crossed, we can replace it the year after. The yellow kitchen is bookmarked for the future…

We saved up for a decade as we wanted something unique, not a boring kitchen from IKEA, Wren etc. It is a real work of art. I have sensitive-imaged it as it may make you so jealous you'll need therapy.

Wow! 😍😍😍 I feel totally outclassed. Not sure I'd bother with the expense of a flushing loo in the kitchen, though, when there is a perfectly usable sink.

Lex345 · 13/09/2025 11:27

Wow these kitchens are amazing, I am very jealous of all the space 😍 mine is a lot smaller and modest, but I love it! Wish we had space for an island or a breakfast bar, they look beautiful!

Easy to tell the real ones from the AI!

You certainly can! Your cabinets are lovely (and I like the blue door too). 😊

We went for pink and I love it 😀

Lovely! 😍

This is nice, looks like a kitchen, not an operating theatre.

Thankyou,! That's what we didn't want - loads of sterile grey or white .boxes.

With this I can reach everything as no high cupboards and I use clip on lights , as well as soft table lamps .
It's cosy . Cost only £150 too.

MaryLennoxsScowl · 13/09/2025 11:38

This is mine. In my head this was tidy… ignore the fruit from washing the bowl as it had a mouldy lemon in the bottom, and the washing up, and the drying dishes… how do people manage to have spotless kitchens? This is IKEA with custom doors.

Here's mine - needs updating...

That wouldn’t be in Paris would it perchance? 😉

There are some beautiful kitchens on this thread and it's so interesting to see all the different tastes. My favourite is @bilbodog - absolutely beautiful and so full of character, makes me want to pop round for a coffee!

How can you tell?

Im away at the moment so cant show mine but i inherited it anyway when I moved in 2 years ago. Its not what I would have chosen - dark grey gloss-finish cupboards - but it does have plenty of storage.

@PandoraSocks many years ago I viewed a house with a toilet situated exactly like that 😯

Was planning on pale green but loved this shade of green so decided to fully embrace colour! Love my terracotta island and pink walls too!

I only thought 1 or 2 were AI…but that goes to show 🤣

Gosh, you know I can't remember which of my properties it's in

MetricMs · 13/09/2025 11:46

Not neutral but I find blues and greens really calming. So it’s a neutral for me. I was obviously working around a smallish, awkward space, but I find the colours work well with the natural light the area receives.

I like it. It has character and individuality (and nor is it particularly untidy). 😊

C8H10N4O2 · 13/09/2025 11:55

Cabinets/colours are personal taste but having redone mine again last year, what I have found most useful in kitchens:

  • a small local builder who was happy to be transparent about costs from suppliers and build additional cabinetry alongside standard units. They also tend to have reliable other trades in their network
  • pan drawers or pull out storage for anything below the worktops
  • granite worktops with built under double sink (I fell in love with wood but everyone I knew said “don’t do it”)
  • standalone appliances other than the ovens. Much more capacity and much better value for money
  • large American style fridge freezer
  • lazy susans in the wall cupboards
  • all wall cupboards up to ceiling height
  • don’t economise on quality of taps
  • always put in more sockets and lights than you think you need

I like shaker style units, I’ve never found them a problem for cleaning but I’ve always bought decent quality carcasses.

333FionaG · 13/09/2025 11:56

My kitchen has a woodburner, a long table seating 8 people, the units are shiny white and the worktops are granite. The floor tiles are grey. There's also a lovely squishy bright yellow sofa that converts into a double bed for emergency overnight guests. I would never post a photo though - it's not showroom spotless, there's the beginnings of lunch prep, some crockery and cutlery waiting to go into the dishwasher and my dog is asleep in her basket by the stove. I think it's a warm, friendly kitchen and I have spent many an evening putting the world to rights with groups of like minded people, over a glass or two of red wine and a bowl of pasta.

I prefer homely to showroom spotless, but that's my preference.

This looks amazing. We have the same colour kitchen. Can I ask where is your splashback from? Thankyou

Thank you! They were from yoursplashbacks.co.uk - I just tried to visit the site to link for you but it’s down for maintenance. They were called copper plate. The biggest one behind the cooker was 1100 x 730mm and was £195, but there was 10% off when I placed the order. The one across the sink was 795 x 910 mm, and you probably can’t see in the photos, but we had two matching worktop savers as well. Just over £400, all in, so really well priced. Took me ages to find one I liked 😂

SmudgeButt · 13/09/2025 12:34

Ours is not pale at all - we replaced a dull kitchen a year back with one with dark wedgewood blue cupboards, oak counters and mustard coloured walls. It's fab. Also messy, hence no photo. The one regret I have about it is that the cupboards have a matt finish which is difficult to clean and keep clean. Oh well - I'll just live with it for the next 25 years!!

This is really nice, I love that shade of green. Plus terracotta. Also, a proper table with chairs!
I think it looks smart but still homely and not too sterile.
