Just that really? I hadn’t and wondering if I’m the only one. And why is it such a big story? I guess the association with trump. What would be the equivalent level of fame over here?

No I hadn’t heard of him, nothing I have heard about him since his death is good. He shouldn’t have been murdered but the lionisation of this racist and the suggestions that everyone thought he was wonderful are clearly ridiculous. Everyone who says their teenagers were aware of him says how they despised him and his views.

It‘s the truth or would you rather I pretend that I was sad?

Would you like the world to be full of people who only agree with you?
Do you think you are always 100% correct?
Have you experienced everything in life, to allow you to know everything?
Do you not want to hear how others view the world?

Doggymummar · 11/09/2025 21:43

No,

CinnamonBuns67 · 11/09/2025 21:44

No saw the news and I said to my husband "whos that" and now he's everywhere on social media

TinyIsMyNewt · 11/09/2025 21:44

Tauranga · 11/09/2025 21:39

Totally disagree.

He wasn't a rabble rouser, he tried to reason with people through debate and reason.

I don't think we really have an equivalent here. He travelled around universities talking and debating.

He was involved in rousing the Jan 6 rabble (spreading misinformation and helping bus-in protestors), and excused the violence. We don't know to what extent he actually discussed potential violence beforehand, since he plead the 5th to the Jan 6 Committee, to avoid self-incrimination.

After Paul Pelosi was attacked with a hammer in his home, he also called for someone to be a "midterm hero" and bail out the attacker (to try and get conspiracy theorist dirt).

No, he shouldn't have been killed, but "rabble rouser" is a fair description.

GregoryFluff · 11/09/2025 21:44

I'm late 30s and had seen videos of his debates. I'm a pro choice atheist, so we wouldn't agree politically on much of anything, but he was articulate and lots of his quotes have been grossly taken out of context. There are a lot of people I abhor, but funnily enough I wouldn't wish for them to be assassinated in front of their children. You can't be against gun violence, only if you like the victim. I'm beginning to realise I'm no longer classed as left leaning. I think my voting days are behind me

I’m really surprised that people are saying they liked and respected him tbh. Didn’t he say that if his daughter was raped he would make her keep the baby? And was horrifically racist.

Yes. He had loathsome, violent, misogynistic views.

Some people like those kind of views.

Yes, i've a lot of american friends, so things came across my tiktok from their own shares/algorithm showing us similar stuff. I also follow a few news accounts that follow american politics.

Gobacktotheworld · 11/09/2025 21:45

No

LeftFooter · 11/09/2025 21:45

I’d heard of him but not followed him closely nor watched his videos.

I agree with most of his views (apart from guns).

Regardless, anyone who thinks that the murder of anyone is justifiable purely because of a difference of political views is absolutely morally repugnant.

Hoardasauruskaren · 11/09/2025 21:46

I hadn’t heard of him at all until
my 20 yr old DS told me he’d been shot. Some of the things he has said were awful.

ChelseaDetective · 11/09/2025 21:46

I’m 54, and hadn’t heard of him.

Icreatedausernameyippee · 11/09/2025 21:47

I'm 34 and had watched lots of his debates prior to yesterday.

Tupperwarelid · 11/09/2025 21:47

I’m 54 and not heard of him but my 17 year old had and told me he’d been shot.

TobaccoFlower · 11/09/2025 21:47

I'm 54 and hadn't heard of him. 18 year old dd said her age have all heard of him.

Is it the racism or misogyny you like the most?

Jeschara · 11/09/2025 21:47

In my 60's and I had not heard of him. His views are dreadful, but it does not mean he should have been murdered. His poor wife and children.

Friendlygingercat · 11/09/2025 21:47

Never heard of the guy until last night but my thoughts are with his family and all those who witnessed this terrible event.

MasterBeth · 11/09/2025 21:47

Ddakji · 11/09/2025 21:41

Yes, he doesn’t seem anything like Darren Grimes from what I’ve briefly seen.

Edited

Well, he was American and articulate, so that's different, but he was also a loathsome right wing social media grifter, so that's similar.

sadtimeshardtimes · 11/09/2025 21:47

No we hadn’t. The young people in our house had though.

So you agreed with his thoughts on Palestine then?

Leaving a wife and two young kids? You sure?

SpinelessBastardsAll · 11/09/2025 21:48

I hadn't. (Accidentally pressed YABU,sorry)

pizzaHeart · 11/09/2025 21:48

Zov · 11/09/2025 21:32

No. Never heard of him before.

Still grim and horrible what has happened to him, even if you don't agree with his views.

This ^

Unfortunately.

Yes.
