Just that really? I hadn’t and wondering if I’m the only one. And why is it such a big story? I guess the association with trump. What would be the equivalent level of fame over here?

Seriously? This is the kind of attitude that creates the atmosphere in which people get killed for having a view with which you disagree. On a basic human level can’t you find an ounce of feeling for his young family?

MasterBeth · 11/09/2025 21:34

I had. I am 57.

He was dreadful man but, of course, his murder is an atrocious raising of the stakes in an already violent nation.

A UK equivalent would be someone like Darren Grimes - right-wing rabble rouser.

Totally disagree.

He wasn't a rabble rouser, he tried to reason with people through debate and reason.

I don't think we really have an equivalent here. He travelled around universities talking and debating.

Silverbirchleaf · 11/09/2025 21:39

No, but my 23 year old had. I had to ask him who he was! My dc thought it was ironic that a man who was pro-guns was killed by being shot.

I’ve since read up about him ( and wasn’t impressed with his views). Feel sorry for his wife and young children though.

Radiatorvalves · 11/09/2025 21:37

Yes. I’m mid 50s. My kids showed me a clip of him debating Cambridge students about 2 months ago. They wiped the floor with him.

He was an appalling man with some dreadful views.

Now watch some more. He generally wipes the floor with those trying to debate him.

Bboy1234 · 11/09/2025 21:39

Im in my 40s, I didnt know the name but when I googled I have watched videos of his debates in the past.

gudetamathelazyegg · 11/09/2025 21:40

early 30s and yes both me and DH knew plenty about this guy. Reddit, Twitter (X) being the main kinds of places people like him typically come from. There's tons of super popular ones with millions of followers on Twitch or for the worst ones, Kick.

Pushmepullyou · 11/09/2025 21:40

I’m really surprised that people are saying they liked and respected him tbh. Didn’t he say that if his daughter was raped he would make her keep the baby? And was horrifically racist.

Ddakji · 11/09/2025 21:40

Reallynotsure25 · 11/09/2025 21:38

It‘s the truth or would you rather I pretend that I was sad?

Please tell the truth and know that it was a foul thing to say. To be glad a young man has been assassinated. I suppose you think you’re better than he was but I really doubt it.

Nevergotdivorced · 11/09/2025 21:40

Yes, I have followed him for some time, I am 60.

HowardTJMoon · 11/09/2025 21:40

Yes, as I've been keeping a vague eye on US politics for years now. He was a B- or C-list right wing influencer so he never had the reach of, say, Joe Rogan or Tucker Carlson but was more at the Ben Shapiro, Laura Ingraham, Dan Bongino type of level.

Mutability · 11/09/2025 21:40

I had, but only because our 2 young adult sons are extremely interested in American politics. They loathe Trump and detested Charlie Kirk and his offensive views. So, I was unfortunately, very familiar with the supremacist, racist, homophobic, and transphobic rhetoric he spouted.

PuppiesProzacProsecco · 11/09/2025 21:40

No. But my 11 year old DS had. I've seen him being shot from several angles since yesterday - the world we live in is FUBAR.

TinyIsMyNewt · 11/09/2025 21:40

Yes. To put it mildly, was not a fan.

Not that he should have been murdered, of course.

GleisZwei · 11/09/2025 21:40

Yes, unfortunately, obviously not condoning what happened though.

Robin67 · 11/09/2025 21:40

No, not at all.

LikeStrawberriesAndCream · 11/09/2025 21:41

Yes I had come across him on Twitter.
My DD(17) and both my sons had.
My DD is really upset, she listened to some of his podcasts/debates and actually didn't agree with him on a lot (and neither do I - agree with him on the trans stuff, but not a lot else) - but we're both horrified by the murder of someone for their politics and religious views.
She saw the video on SM too - its brutal.

Vile thing to say. And you accuse 'the right' of being the 'bad guys?'

SixSeven · 11/09/2025 21:41

I’d never heard of him, but my husband and teens were all visibly shocked when I told them as they’d seen him on YouTube reels. I was shocked that they were so shocked!

Ddakji · 11/09/2025 21:41

Yes, he doesn’t seem anything like Darren Grimes from what I’ve briefly seen.

GertrudePerkinsPaperyThing · 11/09/2025 21:41

Yes I had heard of him because of his awful views re Ukraine. He rest of his equally awful views I didn’t know about in detail, but seem to come as a package in today’s America.

I don’t agree with violence or murdering anyone, and the gun violence in the US is shocking, but I can’t be at all upset about this guy specifically.

InWalksBarberalla · 11/09/2025 21:41

Yes, in my 50s. Saw some of his talks with Vivek Ramaswamy before the election. Don't agree with their views but liked their focus on debating.

mumofoneAloneandwell · 11/09/2025 21:42

No tbh

MasterBeth · 11/09/2025 21:42

GargoylesofBeelzebub · 11/09/2025 21:39

Good grief. He got you good.

"Wipes the floor with..."? Are you 12?

gellielli · 11/09/2025 21:42

Yes. Didn't agree with the majority of what he said. Still hope they catch the man who murdered him, and think it's appalling that anyone thought it was ok to end his life. His poor wife and children. I believe they may have been in the crowd. Horrific.

theriseandfallofFranklinSaint · 11/09/2025 21:42

Nope but I'm not on SM so maybe that's why?
