Upset about new top

BykeP · 06/09/2025 13:57

I bought what I thought was a lovely new top, it’s black, fluffy and sleeveless. DH thinks I look like Betty Rubble from the Flintstones and keeps saying Yabba Dabba Do every time I enter the room.

I don’t think this is funny but he won’t stop laughing. I said he is offending me and I find his comments hurtful but he said it’s too funny to stop.

I refuse to change my top but I think he is unreasonable? I can’t listen to Yabba Dabba Do anymore or be called Betty

OP posts:

Why would you post laughing emojis when someone has posted about something that hurt them?

Because its funny😂

bugalugs45 · 06/09/2025 16:18

My brother does this , he once told his wife that she looked like a wrestler from WWF as she was wearing a 1 shoulder top ( all the rage at the time ) but like you she never wore it again !
personally I’d find it funny , so can’t really help you much , but if you are getting annoyed then he should stop

I had a black and white houndstooth check jacket in the early 90s… very smart. Princess Diana also had one. My DH and DS decided they didn’t like it, so it was known as the Jacket From Hell - I deliberately wore it to DSs school concert.😁
There were the Aladdin trousers from 1983 ( comments about magic carpets and rubbing lamps all evening ). and a cream leather coat with a large faux fur cream collar - I was known as ZsaZsa Gabor when I wore that.

I take no notice at all OP, it’s just mickey taking, and my DH & DS were champions at it!

Yes, mickey-taking isn’t always mean spirited. A bit of silly, immature joshing is good for the soul!

Mercurial123 · 06/09/2025 15:36

The more you give him a reaction he'll just carry on winding you up. Funny though.

OP shouldn't have to treat her DH like a child in order to stop him being immature and disrespectful.

Because its funny😂

So when someone finds something funny they just ignore that someone else is upset about it? Nice 🙄

Gowlett · 06/09/2025 16:25

My friend was shopping with her DH once, and the friend was very excited to show him a very expensive white puffa coat she’d had her eye on (potential Christmas gift) & he just said “snowman”. She ripped it off, and never went back to the shop!

alloutofcareunits · 06/09/2025 16:33

I have a couple of pairs of dungarees, when I wear them DH starts singing “Come on Eileen” or doing violin actions. I find it very funny and we both laugh, guess it’s different if it doesn’t amuse you though…

NewLifter · 06/09/2025 16:36

I need to see this top 😬

Glitchymn1 · 06/09/2025 16:40

On the fence, DH has some awful hilarious styles going on. I take the piss, still love him though.

Icepinkeskimo · 06/09/2025 16:43

I will never wear my red and white striped top with jeans again.
Yes I have those little round glasses as well.
All good bit cold outside put my wooly hat on and went to the corner shop.
Walked in only to hear two words “where’s Wally?”

🤣🤣

jonthebatiste · 06/09/2025 16:46

The number of times I’ve thought “Suzi Quattro’s Nan” and “fat matchstick” to myself when trying on inappropriate clothes! These two comments have been amongst my most major takeaways from MN over the years.

I get it, some people find this sort of thing funny, others find them insulting. If your DH insists on ribbing you after you’ve told him the comments hurt you, that’s not on. He’s basically taking joy out of hurting you, which is sadism. But if you’re just a bit put out or a bit offended/insulted, just give as good as you get. And be aware that there may be other people out there who will reach the same conclusion as him (if you care)!

SoManyIdiotsSoLittleWine · 06/09/2025 16:50

I guess he’s got one thing right, given you’ve married a caveman 😊

BotterMon · 06/09/2025 16:52

Team DH.

Is it this one? Only £2.2k. Maybe you should tell him it's Armani and you bought it in homage to the great man.

SpiritedFlame · 06/09/2025 16:52

I think it could have been funny at first and just a joke but the fact it upset you and he continues is not kind at all.

Anyahyacinth · 06/09/2025 17:01

I think it’s funny and not an insult, but if you’ve said stop he should

Fabulous 🤣♥️

abracadabra1980 · 06/09/2025 17:03

Oh god I’d love to have a DP with that kind of humour! Who cares what he thinks - you’re an adult - lighten up!

PatienceOfEngels · 06/09/2025 17:08

I have a pair of cropped wide legged tan cords I love and every time DH sees me in them he says 'Aargh!' because he thinks they make me look like a pirate.

Didshejustsaythatoutloud · 06/09/2025 16:17

There is a real lack of emotional intelligence with some posters here.

Onlythecrumbliest · 06/09/2025 17:10

OP your top sounds cute!

ChatOff · 06/09/2025 17:13

Once or twice maybe but beyond that is what my Dad has always called, "milking a joke"... and that's from a man who commented when I was wearing something similar "Come on in love, can I get your top a drink?"

Gladysknightjustwalkinmyshoes · 06/09/2025 17:13

CalzoneOnLegs · 06/09/2025 14:01

Betty rubble wears a blue dress though

And for a cartoon.. gorgeous 😍 🤣🤣

BykeP · 06/09/2025 14:45

Yes you’re right but he thought it was inappropriate to call me Barney! It was fine first thing as I was wearing a cardigan so he assumed it had sleeves but when I removed my cardigan he almost fell off the stool at the breakfast bar as clearly I represent one of the Flintstones.

If he almost fell off the stool at the breakfast bar at the sight of a fluffy armless garment, he is clearly not up to the rigours of Stone Age life, even a cartoon version. Send him out to get some stegosaurus ribs for the barbecue to prove he is deserving of Betty.

Vitriolinsanity · 06/09/2025 17:16

I had a fluffy top. I’m also tall and gangly so I looked like a tarantula

CatAsstrophe · 06/09/2025 17:17

There is a real lack of emotional intelligence with some posters here.

And a sense of humour bypass for others.

@CalzoneOnLegs I'm glad I'm not the only one who found the 'Coco the Clown' post hilarious!
