Upset about new top

BykeP · 06/09/2025 13:57

I bought what I thought was a lovely new top, it’s black, fluffy and sleeveless. DH thinks I look like Betty Rubble from the Flintstones and keeps saying Yabba Dabba Do every time I enter the room.

I don’t think this is funny but he won’t stop laughing. I said he is offending me and I find his comments hurtful but he said it’s too funny to stop.

I refuse to change my top but I think he is unreasonable? I can’t listen to Yabba Dabba Do anymore or be called Betty

Arm yourself with a squirt gun, squirt him everytime he says yabba dab a do. When he complains, tell him you find it hilarious.

I will never wear my red and white striped top with jeans again.
Yes I have those little round glasses as well.
All good bit cold outside put my wooly hat on and went to the corner shop.
Walked in only to hear two words “where’s Wally?”

🤣🤣

Yeah save it for World Book Day!

My husband says "hello sailor" every time I wear a stripey top. We have been married and I have been wearing stripey tops for 20 years. He still thinks he's funny 🤷

Fuck’em @Packetofcrispsplease I wear teddy coats and they are the best. They clearly have no taste

I took it in good spirits 😆I got one anyway ..different colour from a different shop 😆 they might’ve been correct about the Cookie Monster as a pack of biscuits doesn’t last long in our house 😉

SemiRetiredLoveGoddeess · 08/09/2025 11:33

Did you ask Fred and Wilma Flintstone what they thought about it before you bought it?

OneLilacCrow · 08/09/2025 11:36

I think that’s funny. Just laugh! He’ll soon loose interest once he realises he’s not been annoying!

Julimia · 08/09/2025 21:00

Really if OP is hurt by that then she needs to grow a thicker skin. Its a joke and she wouldnt last long in many households. Sorry.

I have a long shearling gilet (faux shearling, I might add), which is incredibly cosy and which I sometimes wear to WFH, to save putting the heating on. I get, ‘Shaft’ and some 70s disco every time. Sorry to younger Mumsnetters, it’s a 70s American detective show, which I’m also too young to remember.

DH has a navy bomber, so he’s ’Phil’ (Mitchell). It’s the exact same one, in fact! Funnily enough, he hasn’t worn that for a while…

I have a nice cobalt blue short sleeved blouse with a collar,& pocket on it(got matching shorts too but only any good for summer weather) so i wear blouse with other stuff.Every time without fail my sons say i look like i work at Tesco!!They're so annoying. And its wearing thin now! Particularly when they ask if somethings on aisle 5 or whatever!

Witknit · 14/09/2025 09:15

I bought a gorgeous "teddy bear" jacket. It was so snuggly, I'd wanted it for ages. Im 4ft 11" and even the petite one was slightly long. Adds to the snuggliness i thought.
I wore it once.
My husband introduced me to someone as his "pet ewok"
I couldn't complain, it made me laugh

pictoosh · 14/09/2025 10:03

It's all fine if you laugh too.

I agree. Even if it was funny at first, you’ve explained that it’s upsetting, OP, so he needs to stop. YANBU.

Reminded of this thread by the talk Roundup email.

Nice to see some couples who laugh together when most posts are about broken/unhappy marriages.

Edited

Reminds me of when I approached a man in Sainsbury's for aisle help and he said he doesn't work there.
Looked him up and down and realised, although he had Sainsbury's colours on, it wasn't the actual uniform.
Luckily took it in good humour and it hadn't even clicked until that moment.

My DH bought a green polo shirt after some convincing from me as he wasn't sure it suited him.
He wore it to work with stone chinos, and when back, said when he went to lunch in the canteen, someone shouted Park ranger!

Come to think of it, haven't seen it since!
