Upset about new top

BykeP · 06/09/2025 13:57

I bought what I thought was a lovely new top, it’s black, fluffy and sleeveless. DH thinks I look like Betty Rubble from the Flintstones and keeps saying Yabba Dabba Do every time I enter the room.

I don’t think this is funny but he won’t stop laughing. I said he is offending me and I find his comments hurtful but he said it’s too funny to stop.

I refuse to change my top but I think he is unreasonable? I can’t listen to Yabba Dabba Do anymore or be called Betty

Betty was a sexpot. Ignore him and his lack of fashion knowledge and comedy skills.
I usually find a ‘yeah whatever, Grandad’ response puts them in their place !

mummybear35 · 07/09/2025 15:57

He feeds off your reaction, so don’t react 🤷🏻‍♀️ you like your top, what does it matter what he thinks?

SeraphinaValentina · 07/09/2025 16:51

I bought a lovely Mach green dress with small multicoloured stars all over - my DH and teenage daughters decided I looked like a Christmas tree🎄! I now only wear it in December 😂

Oh, I laugh plenty. Just not at such simple 'jokes'. I

Why the need to be so unpleasant to people?

Trishyb10 · 07/09/2025 17:46

Folk dying in the world and u stressed about a top……

Plutotheplanet · 07/09/2025 18:11

This made me giggle. Before I really knew DH he called me Betty Rubble. We were on a degree course together and I was wearing a blue leopard print mini dress. Other lads on the course laughed, but called him mean. But I found it funny. When we later started dating, his defence was 'she was the hot one'.

Sorry Op, I can imagine if he keeps laughing it would be annoying. If you like the top, just ignore him, he'll soon get bored.

I agree.

Imagine dealing with that IRL 🙄

wasdarknowblond · 07/09/2025 18:15

My husband said I looked like I was in the military, just because I wore a top with buttoned down breast pockets. Men can be arses when it comes to fashion.

Chinsupmeloves · 07/09/2025 18:24

There have been many times I've loved a new outfit and DH and DH has not been complimentary.

Give it a go and see if anyone else thinks the same lol 😆

FattyMallow · 07/09/2025 18:35

Difficult to decide without a pic of that top. Come back with: Betty Rubble's hubby should know... And BTW sex is only for Betty's husband and not anyone else.

Let's see how well Yabba Dabba Do this one.

GlitteryRainbow · 07/09/2025 18:39

Go Betty Rubble and hit him with a large rock. See how he likes it.

Packetofcrispsplease · 07/09/2025 18:42

Oh my god ..he needs to shut up as it’s annoying you.
I got a new casual top a few years back
Husband “ oh you look like a mannequin “
Me “ oh thank you, but I think I’m several inches too short and about 30 years too old to be any kind of model “
Him “ erm I meant one of those clown things “
me “ ???? “
him “ you know with too many colours on their clothes and like a diamond pattern “
me “ I think you might mean a harlequin “ 🙄
The top went to the charity shop 🤣

Sortalike · 07/09/2025 19:08

My friends dad was captain of the local golf club and all captains get a red jacket with black lapels to wear at their dinner parties etc.

First time he wore it she said "alright Pa, what time are Showaddywaddy on?"

Marieb19 · 07/09/2025 19:20

Saying something insulting but vaguely funny once is acceptable. To keep repeating it, to deliberately hurt your feelings is not. Ask him why he continues to this? If he continues and values his less than mediocre witisism more than your feelings then you have a real problem. People get upset by different things and the person you share your life with, should respect that and try not to hurt you.

RobertJohnsonsShoes · 07/09/2025 19:20

My mam had a kinda greeny browny matching suit/skirt thing which we teased her for and called it the cow pat suit.

YanTanTetheraPetheraBumfitt · 06/09/2025 17:45

I all seriousness it would annoy me. I have a beautiful A line black and white striped skirt. Dh screams “skunk” or sometimes “badger” if I wear it. Hence I’ve only worn it a few times as it puts me off it.

Whereas I have a black slightly hairy jumper with a white pattern and when I wear it Dh sings everybody knows.... And I sing back Badger loves mashed potatoes! Because whilst I love the jumper I can see the badgeryness and bodger and badger is classic television. It's only clothing.

CalzoneOnLegs · 07/09/2025 19:42

@TheCurious0range are you a Fall fan ? (from your username )

I'm not not a fall fan, but this is in homage to Lee and Herring's This morning with Richard not Judy

Miserygutsandtheblastedcold · 07/09/2025 19:50

I'm afraid I laughed but then I am pretty childish

Seajaye · 07/09/2025 20:23

No one really likes being poked fun at over their attire but just occasionally Sometimes your partner may you a favour if something looks oddball . You can have the last laugh by wearing all of the time as your new fave item, if you really really love it.. the joke will wear thin on him eventually.

Let's see it before we judge him, and your dress sense!

Cantbelieveit888 · 07/09/2025 20:30

Is it like this? I mean it’s black so quite subtle.
no flintstones to me?

Packetofcrispsplease · 07/09/2025 21:11

Oh I’m also now reminded of the time I fancied a Teddy coat so popped into Fatface where they had a nice tan one + a sort of teal blue one .
i tried tan one and family said “ Ewok “
tried the blue one and they burst out laughing and said “ cookie monster “ 😂

GlastoNinja · 07/09/2025 22:32

Fuck’em @Packetofcrispsplease I wear teddy coats and they are the best. They clearly have no taste

Mydadsbirthday · 07/09/2025 22:34

Sorry OP I thought it was funny too but I'm sorry you're upset and anyway it makes no sense as Betty wore blue and Barney's outfit was brown!

Side note - looking at the pic PP posted, does anyone else think Barney was totally punching 😂

Thistlewoman · 07/09/2025 23:43

First world problems 🤷🏼‍♀️🤣
