Woman shouted because Dd wee’d in the car park

1000 replies

Hetoldherthatmagicdoesntexist · 05/09/2025 21:56

Dd, 6 and I were at the supermarket today
We were in a rush, had walked all the way back to car, I was struggling with three large bags, putting them in the boot.
Dd was moaning and difficult most of the day, she said she was desperate for the toilet. I said to just wait a moment as I had to put the bags in etc and we’d go back. She started getting upset saying she was really desperate and about to wee and could she wee by our car quickly. I let her.
As I was fastening her car seat, an older woman walked past and shouted’There are loos inside you know!’ in not a very nice way. I shouted back ‘Excuse me?’ She said she was just saying there were loos inside that can be used (again, it wasn’t said in a nice way’ I said to her ‘She’s 6 years and was desperate and couldn’t hold it in, she’s 6!’ She pulled a face and got in her car.
Dd was upset and asked if she’d done something wrong and felt scared of the mean lady.

It really pissed me off, was I out of order??

All these children peeing in car parks. Im shocked 16% of people think it’s ok to teach your child to squat and pee where they are because it’s easy. Using the loo before you leave home, holding it in and rushing around looking for a loo when needed, are life skills that should be learned. Next you’ll be saying children go to school in nappies.

Of course they should be learnt. But sometimes parents don’t manage to do everything in the ideal way and accidents happen. I know I need to remind my child to go to the toliet but there are times when I’m distracted by other things.

It’s a world away from a child going to school in nappies.

hmmnotreallysure · 06/09/2025 10:12

YABU op, toilets are usually situated at the entrance to the store, you should have rushed her in to use the toilets there.

Zempy · 06/09/2025 10:12

Really grim. A six year old shouldn’t be doing this. You were definitely unreasonable.

Her child has additional needs!!!

Yes and it's still OK for someone to express They don't agree, and for her to answer back
People are not mean if they speak and nice if they stay quiet

BananaPeels · 06/09/2025 10:10

but what if the child couldn’t make it to the loos? You are making an assumption she could hold it in. None of us know.

Is it better the child peed in the supermarket? The mum had a split second choice to make. I’d have let my daughter pee if she were desperate than risk her weeing on the floor inside. I think that is much worse

In these circumstances my child would 100% have peed on the floor on the way to the toliet. Far better pee outside than have a minimum wage worker clean pee off a floor IMO.

stichguru · 06/09/2025 10:13

If you need to wee outside, it's in a country area where there aren't loos nearby and you are out the way. Otherwise you just go to the loo. There might be an exception for a potty training 2 or 3 year old, but not a 6 year old.

Honestly as well, like how does your kid cope in school? Is she going every few minutes? By year 1, my kid generally was expected to be able to do an assembly or a coach ride without needing to pee. If your daughter can't hold long enough walk across a supermarket car park, she's going to find school a challenge. Please look at getting her some medical help OP.

mrstrickland · 06/09/2025 10:13

Why would anyone give a crap about a small child peeing? I would not care less if I saw a child doing that. Very different from an adult doing it for goodness sake

Dogs pee literally everywhere. And their owners are usually standing by smiling as if waiting for me to compliment the flipping dog. I think it's fine OP, sounds like she was stuck and it was just a once off

What a weird comment and idea you have of what dog owners are thinking???!!
Dog owners are just waiting for their dogs to finish, they’ve no interest in you or anyone else passing by, you’ve a high opinion of yourself that you are even on their radar!!!
Incidently, where would you like owners to take their dogs to piss?
Queue up at the ladies and gents?

It’s ok for a women to say her child has SEN and pees outside etc as needed and she past caring about judgement and for someone to say they have an issue with that?

Was thinking the same thing. Lift bag out of trolley, put in boot. How's that a struggle 😂. I'm old enough to be a grandmother and I manage the above task just fine.

Because everything now is overblown
'Running around after kids at home' or just walking round your house doing chores
'Struggling with bags' you packed them , if you made them too heavy it's your own fault

I would find it weird and disgusting seeing a 6 year old weeing in a car park while knowing that there are toilets a few steps away. I wouldn't judge the child but I would judge the mother for poor parenting.

That's not what happened though

Woman expressed distaste for peeing outdoors
At this point , OP replied and the woman made a face of disapproval

Not much really happened

Yet the same people who would rather a little child wet themselves rather than have a quick wee outside will let their dog piss and shit all over the floor….because that makes sense.

I don't know whether it 'makes sense' as such, but it certainly follows social (and legal) rules.

We have developed a sewage system for humans, including indoor toilets. The societal expectation is that human beings will use them. No such facilities exists for dogs (or foxes, squirrels, rats, mice, hedgehogs, birds etc).

As a society we have decided that humans relieve themselves indoors, in dedicated facilities and animals go freely outside.

Whether that 'makes sense' is a big question. If it doesn't then we have to fundamentally change how society works! Do we build toilets for animals? Or do away with toilets for humans?!

Are you arguing that supermarkets should provide facilities for animals? Or that it should be Ok for humans to excrete as and when, like animals do? Neither seems better than the current system where humans use toilets and animals go on the floor tbh.

I’d just think, poor girl got desperate. I honestly wouldn’t judge at all. She’s 6 not 16.

Also the op hasn't said her dd has additional needs

Evaka · 06/09/2025 10:18

It's piss, not radioactive waste.

Woman was a busybody. If i saw that I'd assume the child was caught short and have sympathy for a stressful situation.

People can be so rigid and puritanical on here.

To clarify, I was referring to a woman on this thread saying her child has SEN and someone snapping back (I can’t recall exact words) which I view as totally unacceptable.

As opposed to a time before lives being online and people's everyday lives needing to be dramatic enough to.post online.
The evolution of language since the birth of social media is really interesting and the subject of a couple of really fascinating research projects

Is the point not more we are stepping in dog piss (and remains of poo) all day anyways and people just accept that.

But a young child needs to go and suddenly piss being on tarmac is the most disgusting thing ever.

GucciTennisShoesRunninFromYourIssues · 06/09/2025 10:21

Gross. And your child isn't a 'small' child. Does she piss in the playground if she can't hold it in at school?
