Woman shouted because Dd wee’d in the car park

1000 replies

Hetoldherthatmagicdoesntexist · 05/09/2025 21:56

Dd, 6 and I were at the supermarket today
We were in a rush, had walked all the way back to car, I was struggling with three large bags, putting them in the boot.
Dd was moaning and difficult most of the day, she said she was desperate for the toilet. I said to just wait a moment as I had to put the bags in etc and we’d go back. She started getting upset saying she was really desperate and about to wee and could she wee by our car quickly. I let her.
As I was fastening her car seat, an older woman walked past and shouted’There are loos inside you know!’ in not a very nice way. I shouted back ‘Excuse me?’ She said she was just saying there were loos inside that can be used (again, it wasn’t said in a nice way’ I said to her ‘She’s 6 years and was desperate and couldn’t hold it in, she’s 6!’ She pulled a face and got in her car.
Dd was upset and asked if she’d done something wrong and felt scared of the mean lady.

It really pissed me off, was I out of order??

Wouldn’t bother me and also wouldn’t say anything. She’s a child. I would presume it’s not a habit and it was out of desperation. The woman should have minded her business honestly.

Velmy · 06/09/2025 02:08

There's a lot of "Would've, could've, should've" on this thread.

Let's assume for the sake of argument that OP doesn't let her kid pee wherever the mood takes her under normal circumstances, and that this was a genuine, time-sensitive emergency...

Are people suggesting the child should have been made to pee herself? To pee in the car?

Yes, they are.

A dog is an animal, at no point will it reach the stage where it doesn't eliminate waste as and when required. Humans will reach that stage. A six year old human will have roughly the same diet as an adult so the waste will be similar. Assuming the people who have no issue with OP's child urinating and by the same principle, defaecting anywhere they please, won't complain about homeless adults doing the same because they have no access to toilets alot of the time.

What is your point?

IndigoBluey · 06/09/2025 02:14

at what age would you deem it not appropriate to let her pee in public? 7,8,9? We have all been there, desperate for a piddle, if you were in the middle of nowhere fair enough, but there was a toilet nearby. Really gross

I've been here from the start.
I'm not the one ignoring all the helpful posts addressing how this could have potentially been dealt with much better.

It reminds me of the time my mother had a wardrobe malfunction (with her knicker elastic). She ducked down behind a car to sort herself out, and a man started shouting at her. It was a foreign country so I couldn't explain that she wasn't actually peeing! 🤣

IndigoBluey · 06/09/2025 02:20

@Velmyno, no one is suggesting the child goes to the toilet in the car. Very strange. Do you go to the toilet in your car or let others do so? the OP was at a supermarket, toilets usually within reach but will happily stand corrected if there were none (OP couldn’t be bothered to take the kid to the loo and it was easier to let her pee in front of others)

FractiousBee · 06/09/2025 02:32

@Hetoldherthatmagicdoesntexist

I don’t think you did anything wrong!

It was a 6 year old having a wee emergency!

Have you broken any laws? No!

Velmy · 06/09/2025 02:37

@IndigoBluey I didn't say they were, did I?

You're assuming that OP simply couldn't be bothered to go back into the supermarket to find a toilet, which may or may not be true. She says it isn't.

I'm saying that if we take her at face value that this was a genuine emergency and her child wouldn't have made it to a toilet, what are people suggesting she should have done?

pregnantprayingmantis · 06/09/2025 02:40

To be honest there are bigger things to get upset about. So much pearl clutching

SlaveToFelines · 06/09/2025 03:07

Hetoldherthatmagicdoesntexist · 05/09/2025 22:00

I’m really shocked, she’s still quite little and cannot hold it when it gets to this stage
It would not bother me to see a child do that either, I completely get it

I’m surprised at people’s reactions too. This isn’t a grown person we’re talking about here, it’s a CHILD. I certainly wouldn’t think anything of it if I passed by and saw this. Even if it was an adult I’d give them grace and assume they were caught out (unless visibly intoxicated). I’ve had bad cystitis in the past and grew up with a mum who had prolapse of the womb which in turn caused incontinence/needing to go with very little notice, so maybe I just have more empathy for situations like this 🤷🏻‍♀️

Candy24 · 06/09/2025 03:07

Well we were once trapped in a traffic jam and I got my 6yr old out and let her pee on side of highway she can't hold it. Honestly if someone was offended I am sorry but not too.lol Pee isn't that big of a deal.

SlaveToFelines · 06/09/2025 03:15

hollyhillyhole · 05/09/2025 22:10

I let my 2 year old discretely pee behind a rock where seemingly nobody was on a beach with no toilet and a man who noticed ripped into me and said how it was not ok for her to do that.

That’s crazy. I’ve seen people with children in the local park who were clearly caught out in the same way, I even saw a grown woman going one day but I wouldn’t dream of saying anything. For all I know they could be have special needs and why would I make things harder for them? There’s a lot worse going on in car parks than this ffs.

basinbasin · 06/09/2025 03:19

Dogs wee and poop every where and nobody says a word , a child caught short gets a lecture ….

Plus, many men don't seem to have a problem with doing it.

but supermarkets all have toilets.

They absolutely don't.

basinbasin · 06/09/2025 03:21

And that’s why car parks smell of piss.

Because of the occasional child?

basinbasin · 06/09/2025 03:32

Where do you live that there are designated places for dogs to go to the toilet? Where do you live that dogs are so intelligent that they tell their owners they need to go? Surely you can see the difference

Piss is piss isn't it? @SouthernNights59 or is dogs piss less disgusting?

Walkden · 06/09/2025 03:32

"There was no one really around"

Clearly not true , or there wouldn't be a thread about it.

Mumsnet double standards here again. "People peeing in public is disgusting" and " men have no problem with it" but in this case it's a woman justifying / normalising urinating in a public urban area and many posters, baffingly, supporting you

Your child is 6 and should not be peeing in public. If you know your child often says nothing / doesn't ask until she's desperate you could / should have encouraged her to use the toilet when you first went in to the supermarket or before you came out.

As it is you have taught your 6 year old child that peeing next to your car is normal, and the old lady is just being "mean". It really isn't

basinbasin · 06/09/2025 03:34

As an SEN teacher I like to think I’ve seen/heard everything, but this took my breath away.

🤔

Bahhhhhumbug · 06/09/2025 03:35

PatsFruitCake · 05/09/2025 22:07

OP why is it OK for a six year old to piss in a car park but not an elderly person with incontinence problems? Either it's OK for people to piss in public places or not. Age is irrelevant unless maybe it's a toddler potty training.

Last week on a long journey we stopped at a mobile snack van ,complete with toilets and parking
spaces. Dh went to get us a drink and as it was a hot day l opened passenger door and sat with my legs out, feet on floor outside the car.
Then the smell hit me of stale piss, luckily it was dry but the smell was horrible . I couldn't have cared less if it was a six yr old's or a 49 yr old man"s it"s so antisocial.
The next person who parks there will be standing in your child"s urine whilst loading their boot....nice..

basinbasin · 06/09/2025 03:40

Dogs don't know how to use toilets though

My dog does so train yours...

basinbasin · 06/09/2025 03:42

It's pretty unfair on the general public to have puddles of wee where they have to walk. And the smell!

And animals wee doesn't leave puddles on pavements or smell?

basinbasin · 06/09/2025 03:44

I love all the "she's 6, she's old enough" and then on other threads OPs are lambasted for leaving an 18 year old at home.

At least it entertains me when Incant sleep!
