Woman shouted because Dd wee’d in the car park

Hetoldherthatmagicdoesntexist · 05/09/2025 21:56

Dd, 6 and I were at the supermarket today
We were in a rush, had walked all the way back to car, I was struggling with three large bags, putting them in the boot.
Dd was moaning and difficult most of the day, she said she was desperate for the toilet. I said to just wait a moment as I had to put the bags in etc and we’d go back. She started getting upset saying she was really desperate and about to wee and could she wee by our car quickly. I let her.
As I was fastening her car seat, an older woman walked past and shouted’There are loos inside you know!’ in not a very nice way. I shouted back ‘Excuse me?’ She said she was just saying there were loos inside that can be used (again, it wasn’t said in a nice way’ I said to her ‘She’s 6 years and was desperate and couldn’t hold it in, she’s 6!’ She pulled a face and got in her car.
Dd was upset and asked if she’d done something wrong and felt scared of the mean lady.

It really pissed me off, was I out of order??

She was weeing, can’t hold her wee for long sometimes and would not have made it in time

Yes she could

ShamedAndsincere · 05/09/2025 23:12

As long as she’s not pissing outside constantly I don’t see why it’s an issue. She’s got caught short. We’ve all been there 🤷🏿‍♀️

The streets are absolutely littered with sloppy fur baby shit and piss and no one moans about that do they.

DiscoBob · 05/09/2025 23:13

I would take it that it genuinely was an emergency and avert my eyes if I saw this.

But having said that it would be grim if everyone let their kids see in the car park. If it's not alright for adults it shouldn't be alright for toilet trained children.

She must have known she needed one when you were in the shop, it doesn't usually come on that quickly.

StressedOot3 · 05/09/2025 23:13

I have three children. The two youngest could hold a pee till the cows come home. My eldest couldn't, if she needed to pee she'd already been holding it until the cows came home because she has Adhd and waits until she literally can't hold it anymore before alerting me.

On top of that as a now young adult, she is under urology due to her bladder issues of not being able to hold it in, peeing so often so urgently and having a small capacity of how much her bladder can hold. So unless people have a child like this they may not get it and fuck what randoms in a car park or on the Internet think.

Buckle up OP. Mumsnet hates this sort of thing. (Personally I couldn’t give a toss).

I know imagine having standards pfffft

Absolutely vile.

The DD said she couldn't wait, she was desperate.

to be fair I genuinely hate this and I surely cannot be the only one.

As an SEN teacher I like to think I’ve seen/heard everything, but this took my breath away.

If this took your breath away god knows what you would have felt when my sister let her 3 year old shit into a nappy in an alcove under some stairs by Wilkinson while I stood guard (she held the nappy while my niece squatted over it and shat..I was a bit mortified)

Small children is a completely different thing surely?!

She's 6, she's not a small child and hasn't been for some time. You need to see her for the young girl she is and not the baby she grew out of being years and years ago. You're doing her no favours.

She was weeing, can’t hold her wee for long sometimes and would not have made it in time

In that case it's fine. Better than going in her clothes.

Gowlett · 05/09/2025 23:16

It’s a bit of children’s wee… Fine with me!

TheWelshposter · 05/09/2025 23:07

If your daughter was so desperate, why didn't she need to go when inside the shop if you had just left it?
It's pretty unfair on the general public to have puddles of wee where they have to walk. And the smell! But I guess that's someone elses problem now and not yours.

So what do you think happens to the millions of dog's wees everywhere? Do you think it evaporates into thin air?

We are all walking in it every flipping day and no one cares to force owners to make sure they do it in a bush

You're not. That's also gross.

ICanSpellConfusionWithaK · 05/09/2025 23:17

When potty training my 2 yo, we had to stop there and then at times. 6 years old? No excuse. grim.

Imagine being so narrow minded you can't see outside your own experiences.

EastEndQueen · 05/09/2025 23:18

OP I would do exactly the same. I let my two DS aged 6 and 8 have a quick ‘wheel wee’ quite regularly when it’s not convenient to pop back in. It would add 20 mins sometimes to go all the way back in and sometimes life not doesn’t allow for that. Plus supermarket loos are revolting, kids touch everything and I don’t want noro.

I did many middle of nowhere ‘wild wees’ as a child tbf and work in a body fluid heavy profession so vary little phases me. Certainly not a child having a quick outside wee.

Hetoldherthatmagicdoesntexist · 05/09/2025 22:02

6 isn’t that small unless she has a disability. She’s a school age child- if she wouldn’t wee on the school playground, you shouldn’t allow her to wee in a car park.

It’s normal to let your kid go for a wee in the bushes, in the knowledge that the nearest toilet is a 10 minute walk/ drive away. But in future best to ask her if she needs the loo before you leave the supermarket, to avoid her telling you when it’s too late.

cc99xo · 05/09/2025 23:19

She’s right tbh. Unless there’s a huge drip feed ahead of disabilities etc .. but a typical 6 year old should be able to hold it in.

I wish they’d force them into their own gardens to be honest. My friend doesn’t allow her dog to shit in their garden though. Her kids play there. Local football pitch is just fine though…

flamingbananaz · 05/09/2025 23:20

The woods or field when no toilets about- fine

Supermarket car park?! Dear God, no

A 6 year old can absolutely hold their wee a few minutes to get to the loo. Just like they hold it already if they're busy, or in the car, or in the classroom (or whatever) and then make their way to the loo.

You were unreasonable for this and also for being rude to the lady who pointed out how unreasonable you were

marshmallowfinder · 05/09/2025 23:20

Hetoldherthatmagicdoesntexist · 05/09/2025 22:03

There was no one really around, we were parked in a quiet spot away from other cars quite far from the doors

But the puddle of urine for the next unknowing person to step in? How gross.

You’ve probably stepped in litres of dog, fox, cat and god knows what other animal piss in your lifetime.

Dogs pee literally everywhere. And their owners are usually standing by smiling as if waiting for me to compliment the flipping dog. I think it's fine OP, sounds like she was stuck and it was just a once off

This. I honestly can’t get worked up about a kid having a pee.
