To think Farage surely has to go

So Farage has some dodgy private company set up to avoid paying tax. Is he being pressured to resign as head of Reform? Of course not. Because he’s an entitled privileged man.

The double standards are incredible really. Here’s the story https://www.theguardian.com/politics/2025/sep/05/nigel-farage-uses-private-company-to-pay-less-tax-on-gb-news-earnings

While I think Rayner had to resign, why are the same standards not being applied?

Exclusive: Reform leader’s use of personal services firm is a practice criticised across the political spectrum

Genuine concerns about the effects of Brexit spun by the right wing media and grifters as having no faith in your country that turned out to be true and we're yet to see the sunlit uplands.

Thanks for explanation.

No, I don't know what it is, explain it to me like I'm 6?

3 years before you were born the UK had a big vote to decide whether it wanted to pay to be in a club of countries where anyone in the club could move to live in UK, and the UK had to follow all the clubs rules.

The people who wanted to leave the club thought we were capable of living the world without having to follow all the clubs rules, and saving the membership fee, but those who didn't tried to persuade them that the wider world was too scary to go alone, and that without the clubs rules we wouldn't be able to survive. This painting of it being too scary to leave was named Project Fear.

The main person who wanted to leave (Nigel) left the implementation of this to his friend (Boris). Boris, however, decided he prefer to have parties than to go and explore the big wide world. Now Nigel has found a new group of friends aren't scared of the big wide world and improve the UK place in it.

Some people miss being told what to do by the club the club and moan about not being part of it, but they won't move to be part of it because then they wouldn't get as much money from the government for sitting on their bottom.

The club is now so unpopular that lots of people try and leave it in small boats which is something that Boris didn't care about because of the parties, but Nigel will sort.

Brexit hating think-tank writes anti-brexit report shocker. Labour shortages aren't driven by Brexit - they are driven by our lavish benefits system that pays far too many people not to work. Once Reform cut that back the vacancies will be filled with Brits.

That.s working VERY well in USA where Trump has disposed of so many immigrant farm workers. Farmers are in despair "I didn't think he meant ME when I voted for him'. Suckers. If you buy more of Farage's garbage you deserve all you get.

They told her to get specialist advice. She failed to go through with that. She only has herself to blame which is why she’s now out.

No MP could do the media round with any defence.

Edited

… having already expressed a view that the lower rate applied.

And it seems they didn’t tell her to get expert advice. They recommended it & suggested it.

As a tax adviser I would not say, in a formal report, words to the effect of ‘I think this is right but you’d better check’.

They should have made it abundantly clear that their ONLY recommendation was to seek expert advice.

Solicitors can be liable if they give incorrect advice that they know may be relied upon. It’s no good saying “oh i think X but I may be wrong” - and it’s terrible customer service.

You either advise or you don’t - there is no middle ground.

EU nationals are leaving in small boats?

He is an MP now,, not a person in broadcasting.

Admittedly, it's a thin line.

And probably a reason why people in broadcasting aren't too keen challenging it.

And many people have been caught out evading tax in this way, Adrian Chiles and Gary Lineker are prime examples. There are strict rules about using personal service companies, in theis case IR35 would apply, as they expect him to present the programme not Joe Bloggs who happens to be available while Farage has his tongue up Trump's arse

There are lots of people like me who were net contributors for years but lost that status when we claimed the state pension. Comfortably off currently and just as affected by the state of the economy as when we were working, if not more so. No pensioner with their life savings in investments and their pensions dependent on a healthy economy is going to fall for Reform’s unicorn economics.

i really really hope you are right but I believe young men and pensioners were the demographic that have just voted them into council seats up and down the country - sigh

Food is literally rotting in the fields. Americans “won’t do” the back-breaking work in full sun/heat for just above minimum wage. Quelle surprise.

Of course they will if the pay is right. Who do you think did these jobs for the many years before immigrants started doing them? And why do you think British people of all colours won't/ can't do them?

Ablondiebutagoody · 05/09/2025 18:38

Literally millions of people have this arrangement

timetochangethering · 05/09/2025 18:39

It's the difference between tax evasion and tax avoidance.

Avoidance is legal and there are (many) government approved ways of following the law while paying tax - so in this example he can use a company to process his wage earnings and pay lower tax as he works for multiple employers in a freelance capacity, and has the extra risk of losing his job with no notice, and no holiday pay/sick pay etc. He probably also has to employ a P.A or agent to represent and promote himself.

Tax evasion is where you lie about the value of a property or who owns it in order to pay less tax. This is evasion and this is not legal. It is tax reduction through dishonesty.

Like I said…I’ll believe it when I see it. I’d also be interested in how the pay will “be right”, considering how many care home places up and down the country are funded by county councils. Are you proposing a huge council tax hike to fund home-grown care workers? That will go down like a treat.

Quite. Who the fuck are ‘pensioners’?

TheAutumnalCrow · 05/09/2025 18:54

Anyway, my considered opinion is that Farage is a tax avoiding hypocrite who is a bit thick.

Topseyt123 · 05/09/2025 18:55

I do have a sliver of sympathy for Angela Rayner though it was inevitable that she had to go.

I've nothing but contempt for Nigel Farage though. He can get into the bin. Arrogant hypocrite. Isn't he more often in the US licking Trump's arse than ever trying to represent his Clacton constituents!?

The pay doesn't need to go up. The benefits need to come down. We are paying people not to work when there are jobs that need to be done. The Reform policy of you having to accept the third job offer you get will mean these jobs get filled. If the choice is work or not eat, rather than work or play on the playstation people will change.

He has done nothing wrong, most people in broadcasting would set up their affairs like this. It's common practice; you might as well call those who use an ISA guilt of tax evasion.

He’s not ‘in broadcasting’. He’s an MP and this is supposed to just be a small side job.
