To think Farage surely has to go

So Farage has some dodgy private company set up to avoid paying tax. Is he being pressured to resign as head of Reform? Of course not. Because he’s an entitled privileged man.

The double standards are incredible really. Here’s the story https://www.theguardian.com/politics/2025/sep/05/nigel-farage-uses-private-company-to-pay-less-tax-on-gb-news-earnings

While I think Rayner had to resign, why are the same standards not being applied?

Nigel Farage uses private company to pay less tax on GB News earnings

Exclusive: Reform leader’s use of personal services firm is a practice criticised across the political spectrum

The lengths people will go to, they'll bend over backwards, to clear Uncle Nigel of any sort of wrong doing is insane. We're not a well country.

The man was in a foreign country yesterday talking our country down. The so called biggest patriot (🤮) in the country. He's been involved in more dodgy scams than most politicians. Yet people still put him up on a pedestal as a man of the people.

Like I say, we're not a well country

Absofuckinglutely! Every word!

I can't stand the man and I'd love to think there was a reason he has to go. I'd love to think "someone" would put as much energy into finding that reason and they have for Rayner (I'm sure it exisits).

However, his known tax arrangements, whilst we might find them unethical, are legal and used by very many TV presenters.

He'll use the fact that he's playing the system as a badge of honour, and his supporters will love it. Good old Nigel, not letting "them" rip him off for taxes.

And for the record, I don’t think ANYONE serving in parliament should be allowed to have any other jobs.

He should serve the people of Clacton rather than gobbing off on GB news and swanning off to the US to slag off freedom of speech in the U.K.

hes an absolute charlatan.

Getting decent people to stand as MPs is a tough challenge as it is.

You are unlikely to be selected in the seat you currently live in if there is a strong sitting MP, you could be selected for a constituency at the other end of the country, which could mean uprooting your family if you wanted them to live in the constituency too, could be miles away from friends and family support networks. If you leave your family where they are, then you are splitting your time across the HoC, your constituency and your home. And at some unspecified time in the future (so no guaranteed contract of employment) a GE could be called at the drop of a hat and if you are not re-elected then was it all worth trashing a decent career for?

So if an MP can manage to hold down another employment option, I don't have an issue.

VioletandDill · 05/09/2025 14:27

Nah see Uncle Nige is savvy. His tax dodging is just a bit of cheek. Oh Uncle Nige what are you like?! That trip to America? Just a bit of a banter init, just hanging out with Uncle Don for a pint. Nothing to do with selling the country out all, no no no. See TRUE patriots actually know this country is shit, spend lots of time bad mouthing it, and want Uncle Don to sanction us. That'll teach the libs.

Yes, she should have had better advice and have known that this would blow up. I do agree.

But it’s the hypocrisy I cannot bear- the tories who fiddled their expenses making an example of her.

And Farage barely bothering with Clacton in a role he was ELECTED to do while earning money and avoiding tax on it from his other job. Its all grim.

From what I have read, the advice she received was clear, but she didn't act on it.

I’m not a Farage fan and I do have sympathy for Rayner. But Farage has acted within the bounds of the law and loads of eg bbc employees use the same structure. It is LEGAL. Rayner’s behaviour was ILLEGAL. Do you understand the difference?

Maybe a minimum ethical standard and code of conduct then.

So you don’t have the likes of Farage doing it to purely amplify his racist agenda and swan off to the US to bad mouth the U.K. to another actual fascist.

I do understand the difference.

But do you understand the point I am making?

My OP isn’t entirely serious- I am trying to make a point about the general hypocrisy of it all. The double standards. The general feeling that Nige can do what the fuck he wants including swan off to the US to bad mouth his actual country in a fairly treasonous manner- but Rayner resigned immediately.

That talking the country down is the bit I dont understand. It seems so disloyal for a Member of Parliament to do that and it doesn't fit with the patriot bit.

grizzlyoldbear · 05/09/2025 14:34

They’re both tax loopholes that their accountants would have explained and signed off. It’s fine for most people to use them, just not for those who are meant to set an example.

pavillion1 · 05/09/2025 14:35

He isn’t a patriot. It’s all a lie. He just wants to make as much money for him and his wealthy mates. Remove all our rights, carry on with his extremist racist agenda.

There is NOTHING patriotic about Farage.

Rayner didn’t resign immediately though @OneKookyShark, not at all. She denied, denied, denied. It was only due to the pursuit of the press she ever admitted anything. Otherwise she would have happily avoid the extra £40k she owed.

I do have some sympathy, but it is eroded by the fact that most of us mere mortals would have been treated far more harshly if we’d done the same.

Also Rayner has always been highly vocal in tearing down her opponents when she sees an opening, including calling all tories scum. If she can’t take it, she shouldn’t dish it out should she.

Crikeyalmighty · 05/09/2025 14:38

I think it’s really important as I mentioned below that when you have a risk of being sued and multiple income streams etc including a PAYE job too then it does make sense to separate out ‘other’ income. Both from a financial sense ( and you don’t save masses unless your company is doing something dodgy) but also from a liability aspect. As I said I loathe the bull faced bullshitter - but it’s not illegal and is done for multiple reasons - my H has both self employment and a company - and certain aspects of what he does make better sense liability wise via a company .

The only thing Uncle Nigel is loyal to is cash. He's the ultimate grifter.

And he knows full well it doesn't matter how much he talks down the country his followers will just agree with what he says despite that making no sense

AgentPidge · 05/09/2025 14:41

Nige won't go until the election after he's been voted in and has had a little while to really fuck up the country and for the Reform voters to wake up to the reality, sadly. So it's going to get worse before it gets better.
The bloke is a comedian and a shyster. But his rhetoric is good. Let's listen to his impassioned speeches and give him all the power (as happened with the tangerine toddler over the pond). I'm fearful of the future.

Pretty sure she was quite open all the way through the process wasn't she?

I mean compared to Boris Johnson resigned on the spot

Not only was he talking the UK down….he outright asked that country to place economic sanctions on the UK. For that reason, he needs to go.

But she never denied it did she? I feel like I've seen her talk about the situation every step of the way.

Maybe she was just trying to scam, but from what I've seen I wouldn't nail that down. I lean more towards a genuine mistake. But only she knows that

surreygirly · 05/09/2025 14:44

I assume because he is not deputy PM
He had an accountant who legally reduced his tax liability - same as I do and anyone who ow s a business
His party is not squeezing everyone who works for tax
