To think Farage surely has to go

So Farage has some dodgy private company set up to avoid paying tax. Is he being pressured to resign as head of Reform? Of course not. Because he’s an entitled privileged man.

The double standards are incredible really. Here’s the story https://www.theguardian.com/politics/2025/sep/05/nigel-farage-uses-private-company-to-pay-less-tax-on-gb-news-earnings

While I think Rayner had to resign, why are the same standards not being applied?

Nigel Farage uses private company to pay less tax on GB News earnings

Exclusive: Reform leader’s use of personal services firm is a practice criticised across the political spectrum

The main difference (apart from the evasion v avoidance aspect 🙄) is the hypocrisy of Rayner.

Oh what a shock… a socialist who doesn’t want to pay tax. Socialists think tax should be paid for by other people. They’re right wing when it comes to paying their own tax.

Bumblebee72 · 05/09/2025 18:56

The pay doesn't need to go up. The benefits need to come down. We are paying people not to work when there are jobs that need to be done. The Reform policy of you having to accept the third job offer you get will mean these jobs get filled. If the choice is work or not eat, rather than work or play on the playstation people will change.

What if nobody offers you a job? I know someone who’s applied for over 100 jobs without a single offer.

Menopausalsourpuss · 05/09/2025 19:33

PhuckTrump · 05/09/2025 18:50

Like I said…I’ll believe it when I see it. I’d also be interested in how the pay will “be right”, considering how many care home places up and down the country are funded by county councils. Are you proposing a huge council tax hike to fund home-grown care workers? That will go down like a treat.

It still still be alot cheaper than importing yet more low paid workers (as you should know workers have to earn £40k + to be a net contributor). And it's alot cheaper than paying people benefits rather than paying them a decent wage to do the jobs that need doing.

… having already expressed a view that the lower rate applied.

And it seems they didn’t tell her to get expert advice. They recommended it & suggested it.

As a tax adviser I would not say, in a formal report, words to the effect of ‘I think this is right but you’d better check’.

They should have made it abundantly clear that their ONLY recommendation was to seek expert advice.

Solicitors can be liable if they give incorrect advice that they know may be relied upon. It’s no good saying “oh i think X but I may be wrong” - and it’s terrible customer service.

You either advise or you don’t - there is no middle ground.

She doesn’t have a leg to stand on. She was advised to seek specialist advice and didn’t. Streeting and co can’t even lie on her behalf anymore.

When MPs can’t do that on the morning media rounds that person is out.

KhakiTiger · 05/09/2025 19:33

It’s a bit pathetic to see Rayner fans starting these threads. Farage will be the next PM. Get used to it.

You have to upskill, start a business or take jobs you think are beneath you. Or all three.

Yes, Labour are incredibly keen to inflict socialism on everyone but themselves.

Well we had 14 years of Conservatism inflicted on us so it’s your turn now. Not that this is a remotely socialist government, it’s Tory lite.

Yes this is an example of the punitive undertone of socialism, dissent will be punished ( in the case of this Government, punished via your children).

Yes, sorry.

Punitive :Inflicting or intended as punishment
Undertone: unspoken, implied meaning or emotion
Dissent:to publicly disagree with an official opinion or decision
Socialism: economic stagnation due to limited innovation and private enterprise, suppression of individual freedom and choice through central planning, and a tendency for wealth inequality between the ruling class and the governed.

Doesn’t help. I was thinking more of an intelligible sentence, not a definition of the odd word or two.

You didn’t have true Conservatism inflicted on you either.

At least we’ve only got another 4 years of this lot, at the very most.

Two different companies told her the same tax figure, which she paid.
It’s not a lie to say that advice was bad.
There is, perhaps, a lie of omission in not saying they had also advised getting a third opinion, but honestly, most legal advice comes with a heap of caveats.

They weren’t tax advisors. They said to get tax advice. She either didn’t bother (in which case she’s an idiot) or thought she’d chance it and pay the lower amount (which at least risks tax evasion). She’s bang to rights and to be fair to her, seems to have seen that herself. I doubt she’ll be lying in bed blaming anyone but herself.

OneKookyShark · 05/09/2025 13:56

Rubbish. He’s avoiding tax. She made a stupid mistake. Both in public life but massive levels of hypocrisy. He’s the leader of a political party lecturing everyone else on how they should live while taking the piss.

All politicians should live by the same standards. We are paying their bloody salaries.

She didn’t make a mistake she ignored advice.

CaspersMum24 · 05/09/2025 21:03

Well despite all the vitriolic posts against your point of view OP, the polling on this thread means that the majority of us believe that you are not being unreasonable.Farage is a grifter who cares for no-one besides him and his rich "mates".

Rayner made a mistake. She was just trying to do the best she could for her family and has paid heavily for it.Hopefully she, and Louise Haigh (another female Labour minister unfairly hounded by our wonderful media) will be back in due course to hold the real dangers to account.

What is true Conservatism?

The last 14 years gave us austerity and brexit

Wtf do you think people wanting to pass inheritance on, send their kids to independent schools, have some of their salary left after tax and pass on family farms are trying to do? Her arrogance and greed caused the issue and her vindictive self righteous hypocritical narcissism is why people are so happy karma caught up with her.

She was literally the deputy leader of the entire country lecturing everyone else on how they should live while taking the piss! Massive difference.

No difference at all. If Farage were to become PM he’d be subject to the Ministerial Code. I don’t imagine he’d have a Damescene conversion. He’d still be a grifter.

Not quite the same as being ordered by court to set up a trust fund for your disabled child

Thank God for that if it would have been worse than what we did have to endure. It was quite bad enough as it was.

yesohno · 05/09/2025 21:39

Well said @valeriekat,I agree entirely.

I’m so glad the sneering, cheating woman has gone. Good riddance.

I’m not a fan of Lammy either but hopefully they’ll all be gone at the soonest opportunity anyway.
