Back to school skinnies - what to say

broadly · 05/09/2025 11:55

Private school (relevant as this relatively is expensive) - mums arriving back significantly smaller than they were before the summer.

Do I say anything? Like they look great? Or just ignore it. None of them are really good enough friends to openly ask about WLI, and I wouldn't ask how. But just to acknowledge?

Surely that’s a dangerous amount to lose over the summer hols…and I know private schools have longer holiday.
Say nothing unless they ask.

No one is losing that amount of weight in 8 weeks, even with WLI.

InterviewGhost · 06/09/2025 15:08

I have lost five stone this year. People comment on it a lot. I lost weight because I was critically unwell and almost died. I hate people commenting. Anyway tl;dr don’t mention anyone’s weight to be on the safe side.

FurForksSake · 06/09/2025 15:10

Is size 10 skinny? You know with all the vanity sizes it’s really more like a 12 or a 14, so they are very much midsize 😆😆😆😆😆😆

Unless you are very much overestimating their before size, which potentially you are, they haven’t dropped 5 dress sizes even over a private school summer.

I guess these rich, skinny lovelies could have all done double doses of Mounjaro and whipped themselves to Harley street for a fleur de lis and a boob job?

That's what you think. Didn't you read the OP? These newly minted skinnies are rich enough to afford more WLI than the rest of us presumably! Must be that.

Coatsoff42 · 06/09/2025 15:12

A mum at our school lost weight rapidly, but it was due to a bowel condition and she was being investigated for cancer etc.
They got it under control but it was an incredibly scarey experience for her and she didn’t like talking about it.

MJMaude · 06/09/2025 15:13

Haha, cross posted with you @FurForksSake

LaurieFairyCake · 06/09/2025 15:58

No one’s gone down from a size 20 to a 10 in 8 weeks ! 😂😂😂 that’s IMPOSSIBLE

unless you mean they amputated a couple of limbs?

Anotherename · 06/09/2025 16:43

After being huge all my life, I’m 70lb less then this time last year, and I LOVE It when people say I’m looking good- no one has every really commented on my looks before and it is really boosting my confidence.

you’re looking good is enough… or don’t say anything. I don’t have a hit list of people who haven’t commented 😂😂 (except my mother, who’s only comment over the last year has been ‘you should cut out butter’ and ‘bon march has lots of big sizes in now’ )

broadly · 06/09/2025 10:58

Drastic is the word, talking size 20 down to a size 10 for some.

Haha yeah OK...even WLI isn't going to change someone from a size 20 to a size 10 in 6 weeks.

Try harder OP

I've dropped from a 22/24 to a 12 on Mounjaro. Its taken me 11 months. I can't afford to send my kids to private school though, so that might be the difference!

My kids are at private school and it still took me 6 months to go from a size 14-16 to a size 10-12 on MJ! I must have done it wrong.

Well done!

I dont know them well enough to ask if its wli, then I obviously dont know their exact dress sizes!

Mn can be so literal!

The fact you've mentioned WLI twice in 3 posts makes me pretty sure you're on the wind up.

Maybe the people who you think look ‘haunted’ have been unwell or have had a bereavement which is why they’ve lost weight. Or maybe it’s just how they look when they have less weight on them.

Sure they’re devastated that you (who I bet looks amazingly beautiful all the time) doesn’t like the way they look.

Nope I’m talking about people who are on the jab. Round here it’s the latest ‘in’ thing. The new lashes and lip fillers.
Doesnt matter what people think of me in their own head it’s none of my business and vice versa.

I’ve lost 3 stone on MJ and I don’t look haunted. I look awesome 😉

WhyamIinahandcartandwherearewegoing · 07/09/2025 17:29

Why the hell would you feel the need to comment on it?

MeridaBrave · 07/09/2025 17:39

Yes it’s very likely all taking WLI. No need to comment.

ruethewhirl · 07/09/2025 17:40

Just don’t comment on other people’s bodies. Problem solved.

Why would any of us have assumed you weren't being literal? You didn't say they've lost a couple of dress sizes, you chose two specific sizes to mention, that suggest a loss from morbid obesity to the lower end of a healthy BMI.
Obviously you chose two sizes that it's pretty much impossible to move between over a summer holiday, even with a severe illness, but people were just responding to your choice of words.

I think the op was just trying to defend why she thought maybe she should say something to them - ie; explaining that the loss would otherwise be the elephant in the room.

Not saying I think it justifies saying anyway, but I think that's why she picked two sizes very far apart.

ETA sorry, I should have known better than to use the phrase "elephant in the room" on a weight related thread. But you know what I mean: so obvious that if she said nothing it was obvious she was purposefully ignoring it.

It was not clear that you were using hyperbole.

Don't think you need to say anything, personally would never comment on someone's size good or bad..
