Posting here for traffic.

My DD starts year 7 next week. Local secondary. Nothing fancy.

She and we are respectful of uniform policy and have purchased everything we need to. She looks bloody smart and we (and she) can't wait for her to start.

As 11 year old girls will do, they have tried their whole set up in front of their friends and all of them said the same thing:

"You will get sent home with those shoes"

They throw detentions out for the most minor of uniform infractions and DD is now having a massive anxiety spiral that she's going to get a detention or worse sent home 1st day because of her shoes.

I spoke to a friend who works in the school office and showed her a picture and her response was "oooh, I'm not sure. Air Force 1s are the best way to go"

Since when have trainers been a smarter, more acceptable form of shoe than a patent loafer??!!!

For full disclosure she has chosen the Kickers Edie loafer as in the link

https://www.kickers.co.uk/adult-women-edie-loafer-patent-leather-black/14913640.html?utm_source=google&utm_medium=cpc&utm_campaign=UK+-+Kickers+-+Search+-+Brand+-+Core+-+Broad&utm_term=kickers&utm_content=brand+-+Kickers&gclsrc=aw.ds&gad_source=1&gad_campaignid=20162340688&gbraid=0AAAAADiNwZXHWpJ1LFmAfTE2drVjkEy8k&gclid=Cj0KCQjwwsrFBhD6ARIsAPnUFD1w_j6Ufhx1cfFv1a1fF0Ageht-fZYRGu_xo9ofOilAOdjE7KgGjEgaAoLrEALw_wcb

This school stipulates that hair past chin lemgth needs to be in a ponytail with a hair band that is the closest colour to the individuals hair colour, yet believes that a trainer is smarter/more acceptable than the loafer.

AIBU here?! I know trainers are more acceptable these days but are they really considered smarter considering how rigid they are on the smaller items?!

Surely this is a wind up? I’d not even wear those to work! They’re high heels ffs

cryinglaughing · 30/08/2025 21:58

Too high for school, she'll do herself a damage in those heels 😳

Seasonofthesticks · 30/08/2025 21:58

Those aren’t loafers they’re high heels 🤣

LaughingCat · 30/08/2025 21:59

Zippidydoodah · 30/08/2025 21:46

Too high but we all had those exact ones in the nineties!

I immediately was like ‘omg, I totally had these!’ And we weren’t allowed them back then either 😂

Heeled loafers, can’t see the school being happy with them and unfortunately uniform restrictions are way tighter now than they ever were back in the nineties!

Superhansrantowindsor · 30/08/2025 21:59

I am surprised a young lass wants these. They look like what we wore thirty years ago. No way would they be allowed at any high school where I live. The heel is impractical and not suitable for school.

McSteamyorMcdreamy · 30/08/2025 21:59

Policy says no heels or stiletto. I clearly have a different definition of heels and maybe I was being massively nostalgic when she chose them in the shop

Thankyou for your feedback DH is ordering AF1s as we speak and she can follow the herd as every alternate (less heel) I have showed her has been a no.

I just hate that trainers are more acceptable!!

The Air Force 1s look much more suitable for school than the Kickers.

I think the Kickers are a bit fashion statement tbh - they are definitely not a standard patent loafer with the big heel and platform sole.

For me the AF1s are more of a fashion statement.

The school’s uniform policy would have been very thorough, especially if you know that they need a certain colour hair band. So it is odd that you are now pretending to be confused on shoes. Ours even send photos for such parents who can’t understand what “no heels” looks like so perhaps you can see if you can find similar 😅
Trainers are much more practical/healthier/safer. Time for some last minute shopping!

PennySweeet · 30/08/2025 22:01

Christ, that's a heel and a half isn't it?

I can't think of any schools around here that would allow those.

Spies · 30/08/2025 22:02

Policy says no heels or stiletto. I clearly have a different definition of heels

I'm genuinely so beyond curious about what you consider to be a heel if you think this shoe doesn't have a heel? Confused

WonderingWanda · 30/08/2025 22:02

No trainers allowed at my kids school. Nothing in the uniform policy about heels but as a parent I wouldn't want my dd traipsing about in those all day. So bad for her posture and feet, especially combined with lugging a massive bag around all day.

PennySweeet · 30/08/2025 22:02

Well they're certainly more practical for children than huge heels, and probably safer too.

Goofles · 30/08/2025 22:03

Well they clearly have huge heels!! She likely won’t be allowed to wear them.

Did you think heels were ok based on their uniform policy wording?

CornedBeef451 · 30/08/2025 22:03

That is not a school shoe, of course they are likely to cause a problem.

PotolKimchi · 30/08/2025 22:05

There is a sizeable heel on that. She is going to be wearing it all day everyday. Is it comfortable apart from whether it’s part of the regulations?!

Also confused by what is a heel if that is not a heel?!

IGaveSoManySigns · 30/08/2025 22:05

Oh, fucks sake 🤦🏼‍♀️

DiscoBob · 30/08/2025 22:05

They've got quite a big heel. That must be what people are on about.
If they were flat they'd probably be more acceptable. You'll just have to see I guess. I wouldn't be buying air force ones as well. If the ones she's got are wrong the replacement would need to be cheap.

Weekmindedfool · 30/08/2025 22:06

Obviously it’s the heel, which you know is the issue OP.

PennySweeet · 30/08/2025 22:06

IGaveSoManySigns · 30/08/2025 22:05

And yet you quoted it??

No, what I mean is, fucks sake, I fell for it

IMustDoMoreExercise · 30/08/2025 22:07

Why are you letting her buy such high shoes? They are really bad for her feet and her back.

McSteamyorMcdreamy · 30/08/2025 22:07

Again, thanks for all your feedback.

I stand by the fact that she still looks bloody smarter in them than a pair of bloody trainers!

Why are you so overstruck on how children should look versus what's safe and practical?

She could break her ankle running in those things.

TomatoSandwiches · 30/08/2025 22:11

My daughters school policy is, shoes that cover the whole foot (no Mary Janes) made of material that can be polished, no high heels, black and no obvious logo.

Eh? Please do post a picture of what you think a heel on a shoe is, how is what you linked not a high heeled shoe? I don't have any children wearing school uniform at the moment but drive past 100s of children walking to school onu way to work and all of the girls wear flat shoes. When I was at school we all wore shoes like your link but times have changed massively
