AIBU to ask how much ready 'cash' you could get your hands on today for an emergency?

I was just idly wondering how much ready cash I could get my hands on without cashing in pensions /investments or selling the house, in just a few days. For example a family emergency ,such as to pay ( heaven forbid) a relatives drug debts to prevent them being beaten up or to run away to a safe place etc. This is all purely hypothetical! I rec conned about 3 grand from current account, 9 grand from various saving accounts and 4 grand from credit card is what I could manage!

Probably about £14,000 if it was needed, but that would leave me with no ready cash at all.

16plusDC · 30/08/2025 11:15

Just whatever is in my savings account. I wouldn’t be taking on loans or credit cards.

Blackbookofsmiles1 · 30/08/2025 11:16

About 10k

MsRumpole · 30/08/2025 11:18

Without raiding money hived off for tax or withdrawing from long-term savings, about £25K.

Noelshighflyingturds · 30/08/2025 11:18

About 1000
This time last year it would’ve been 10p

MsRumpole · 30/08/2025 11:19

Not including credit cards, which I wouldn't count as ready cash.

Catpiece · 30/08/2025 11:19

A few thousand but I suppose that would have to include credit cards. I’ve got full holdings in premium bonds but I couldn’t have immediate access to that.

LindorDoubleChoc · 30/08/2025 11:19

Funny thing to wonder about.

Noelshighflyingturds · 30/08/2025 11:19

And I would let the drug addled relative get beaten up sometimes it’s the only way they learn

DeltaFlyer · 30/08/2025 11:21

About 14k;
8k in building society
3k in current account (just been paid)
1.5k in save the change saver
1.5k in DS saver

YahBasic · 30/08/2025 11:24

65k between DH & I in immediate savings. 35k just mine.

Assuming the bank would allow you to withdraw it for cash.

Homeandfireworks · 30/08/2025 11:28

About £100 K that is accessible and hands on access that what we have it bank accounts and ISAS etc

We could get more I suppose if needed. Eg use pre approve credit cards and preapproved loans / overdraft or apply for a mortgage etc or sell cars or house would take longer. But hands on about £100 K without borrowing any

zingally · 30/08/2025 11:42

About £20,000 but that's about everything I've got in the world at the moment! I've just bought a house.

MagnoliaTreeBlossom · 30/08/2025 11:44

Not going to share specific financial information on here. 🤔 This calls for one of my favourite jokes.🤣

I hope this doesn't sound patronising. But well done. It must feel amazing to be in such a better place in one year.

HotTiredDog · 30/08/2025 11:50

£250 from the ATM at the Coop.
(I hope it’s a small drug debt!)

Not very much, I have no savings, maybe hundred or two, but it would be a struggle, drug debt relative is just going to have to take their beating!
