I’m in my 30s and so unreasonable to be posting/caring about this on every level. BUT. I didn’t see a post. So…

AIBU to be puzzled that the man Taylor Swift has finally decided to settle down with is so different to the type she has seemed to date pretty consistently through her 20s and 30s up to then? She seemed so keen on soft, arty, mainly British boys - and now she’s gone for the direct opposite. Is it because her previous long relationship with a soft, arty British boy (Joe Alwyn) didn’t go the distance and so she decided she really needed to change her type if she wanted marriage and kids? Is it a fairly cynical marketing reaction to the current political situation in the States (no idea if TK is actually a Republican but he looks like someone who could appeal to Republicans, very much unlike Joe Alwyn)? Is it just a return to her American, country roots? What gives? I’m her age and I just can’t imagine my tastes changing as dramatically as that.

We used to like the same type of man, and now I feel like I don’t know her any more (I know, I know, I know) 🤣

I think you've kind of answered your own question there. It hasn't worked out with the British,soft arty men,so has fallen for someone a bit different.

She doesn't need to get married for PR, yet it keeps being trotted out. She's not an up-and-coming artist or one who needs to turn an image around.
Her last album was streamed 300 million times in the first day of release (most ever), sold over 5 million copies in 2024 and broke all records set by... herself, with her previous album. The Eras Tour sold over 10 million tickets.

The announcement of her new album next month already pushed any articles about her ex-friend Blake Lively waaaay down the news pages so I'm fairly sure this isn't a publicity stunt for that!

If jojo Siwawa and Chris Hughes have fallen in love I can believe Taylor has fallen for her fiancé too. I think it was his dad that said they are crazy about each other.

Unfortunately, the podcast was EXACTLY him saying that! His friends had just left a party at his house and one of the girls realised she had left a water bottle behind and went back 30 seconds after leaving. Just 30 seconds.

He was already blasting “an extreme porn website that focuses on the humiliation and degradation of women …” It goes on to describe the website in such nauseating detail that this comment would probably get deleted if I typed it out. It is also described as “the most extreme niche porn you can find that is just full of hatred for women” and “The people who make the videos should be in jail”.

Matty literally said he recalled the women in the video being “brutalized” and then “made gagging noises to imitate what was going on on the television”.

You are right when you say all three men on the podcast laughed about it, including Matty.

He is an utterly disgusting man. Taylor was well rid of him.

If you look that girl up with the water bottle a few months after she said she’d made it all up to get the Swifties hating on him more and thought it was hilarious that it worked. As I say, not a fan of the man, the band or TS but it’s been so interesting watching it all and I know far too much about it. A lot of people haven’t even listened to the podcast but have whipped themselves into a state of frenzy over it.

Probably the same reason I have completely changed my "type" at 39 lol. None of the type of guys I liked in my 20s and early 30s were actually right for me and now I'm older I know what I'm looking for and what type of personality aligns more with my own views, personality and lifestyle.

This whole thing about TS marrying an NFL star (a bearded one at that) just highlights how many clichés are flying around everywhere and that's tedious... Someone upthread brought up her country music roots as well. It is entirely possible to listen to country music/bluegrass, appreciate American football and NOT be a raging Trumper. Nashville itself (especially East Nashville) voted strongly Democrat in the last election.
