DH stole from me

At the weekend DH and I went to Knaresborough for a day out - famous for its sausage rolls and pork pies. I don’t like pork pies so I was very much looking forward to the lovely sausage rolls we bought in the bakery. It wasn’t a sausage roll, it was a bean roll but these are just as famous and they looked delicious. DH gobbled his up immediately whereas I took mine home to eat later in comfort of my own home.

later that evening, I wanted to try it but didn’t want the whole thing so I ripped a bit off the end to eat and kept the rest wrapped up in the fridge ready to eat today. I was very much looking forward to it. At lunch time I put my soup on and went to get the sausage roll - it wasn’t there. I messaged DH and he didn’t reply (coward) so I called his work place who went to find him. He denied it at first but eventually admitted to running off with it this morning. I’m gutted. I know it’s a small thing and it’s just a sausage roll but it’s the disrespect, the lies, the outright disregard for my feelings. Latest in a long line of events. Icing on the cake.

I have told him he has no moral compass and the bastard has gone to look up moral compass on yahoo to prove that it’s not a thing. I want it replaced. At the very least I want an apology. AIBU to refuse to cook him dinner or make him coffee until he apologises and promises to replace it.

I trust you've got the police involved?

shuggles · 27/08/2025 20:08

@Odonje I wish the worst thing that ever happened to me was someone swiping a sausage roll, which is bad for me anyway.

You have to call 101 to report on joining the thread..

PhilippaGeorgiou · 27/08/2025 20:12

I'm sorry, but real Northerners don't put beans in sausage rolls

Can I add a boast? My dh sometimes drives the 3 hour round trip to that particular bakery to get me a lemon meringue pie...
If he ate it he would also be an exh..

I want lemon meringue pie now, a proper one with a tangy lemon base and whisked peaks of meringue that crunch in your mouth before melting into clouds of sweetness that contrast with the sharpness of the lemon. All underpinned by a base of melt in the mouth shortcrust pastry.

"I called his workplace who went to find him." Hopefully he's not a brain surgeon...

Mountain and molehill.

ThreePointOneFourOneFiveNine · 27/08/2025 20:20

He’s a monster! LTB.

Endorewitch · 27/08/2025 20:21

What a fuss about nothing. It was in fridge, nibbled at. Your DH probably saw it and feeling peckish, ate it!I would have made a joke of it just to make him aware. You phoned him at work. They had to look for him!!It beggars belief that you did such a thing. My husband rightly would go crazy if I did that.
Are you suffering from mental health issues? If so I think I understand your OTzt reaction.

AbzMoz · 27/08/2025 20:23

Revenge is a dish best served slightly warm, ideally with a huge mug of tea … I think you’re perfectly within your rights to demand a suitable alternative, and/ or a repeat trip.

The phone call to his work was evidently essential, as his colleagues need to be alert to protect their own lunch from the thieving swine!

Nearly50omg · 27/08/2025 20:31

Chop his balls off!! 🤣🤣

luckylavender · 27/08/2025 20:35

You called his workplace? That is so embarrassing

GoldPoster · 27/08/2025 20:40

I think it was ridiculous to drag it all out so long, cherishing a bean roll. If you like them so much just eat it.

Ohhhhhhh there are many greedy scoffing DHs around these parts, as my username will attest.

The greedy DH troll has been going for years. Baffling what they get out of it but people are very weird.

BCBird · 27/08/2025 20:41

The fact that it was a sausage roll is irrelevant. He had eaten his. He knew it was your's. Total lack of respect. I would not have called him.at work, but if he ends up being embarrassed good. An apology would not cut the mustard for me. He knew exactly what he was doing. Selfish 🐖

Morethanthis71 · 27/08/2025 20:45

Well, it seems your husband has a moral compass as functional as a Yorkshire pudding with no gravy. The sheer audacity of it! To abscond with the sacred sausage roll, a Knaresborough delicacy no less, is a crime of the highest order. It's a betrayal so profound, it makes the tale of Mother Shipton seem like a light-hearted misunderstanding.

Honestly, it sounds like he needs to make a pilgrimage, not to the famous Knaresborough bakery, but directly to Bettys for a proper apology. A mere "sorry" won't suffice; it needs to be accompanied by a Fat Rascal, or perhaps a whole afternoon tea to atone for his sins against the sausage roll and, more importantly, your feelings.

A man who would steal a woman's last bite of a Knaresborough bean roll is a man capable of anything. Refusing to cook for him is not unreasonable; it's a necessary sanction. It's time to set an example and show him that his actions have consequences. Perhaps while you're waiting for his repentance, you can consult Mother Shipton's cave for prophecies of a more sausage-roll-filled future ...

MumWifeOther · 27/08/2025 20:51

Sounds like it’s not really about the sausage roll

Thisisbetweenyoumeandtheinternet · 27/08/2025 20:52

It was a tiny bit of a bean roll… hardly stealing from you! Dramatic

We put a label, with our names, on anything we particularly want to keep for ourselves. If he knew you'd been saving the bean roll he should have asked your permission to take it. And then if you'd told him you still wanted it he should have left it for you. Basic manners and consideration.

I have space under my patio if you’re interested.

I have no more room under my patio but its drying up nicely now . My DH bought Twirls instead of Ripples last week and I had him frogmarched from the golf course by the course captain .

LargeChestofDrawers · 27/08/2025 21:05

The bastard. Leave him.

lcakethereforeIam · 27/08/2025 21:08

A has-bean roll.

I'll get my coat...unless someone's taken it!

steff13 · 27/08/2025 21:09

I will be annoyed. I wouldn't categorize it as stealing from me, though. It's mildly irritating at most.

Theextraordinaryisintheordinary · 27/08/2025 21:10

These pastries must be incredible for you to have called him at work .
