House viewings - neighbour refuses to take down flag - Update

Hi all, as a follow up to the previously full thread.

DH spoke to our neighbour again this morning and explained the feedback we received from the first viewings yesterday and that the couple who liked it were put off bidding by the flag.

Our neighbour seemed to understand and said he’d be taking the flag down anyway as the weather is turning.

However, I’ve got home from work to find the flag is still up and he’s also erected a ‘Vote Reform’ banner with Nigel Farage doing a thumbs up pose. So he is clearly taking the piss at this point.

Our estate agent even said to us about having a word so I’ve no idea where we go from here.

This neighbour will be chuckling in to his coffee this morning!

Sincerely, get a grip.
Could you please take that flag down while we have viewings is hardly bullying.
I wonder why the neighbour decide that now, of all times, was the time for a fuck off big England flag?
perhaps he’ll be off painting a roundabout with the Danish 🇩🇰 flag soon… who knows.

Because 'Raise the Colours' is a new thing, perhaps!?

I can't imagine anyone seriously objecting to the England flag being flown... in England!
He's subtly - or maybe not so subtly - saying a big FU! And I don't blame him.

Well it isn’t so subtle now he’s got a picture of the smiling assassin up.

An England flag flying in an English garden wouldn't bother me. Even the addition of NF's picture wouldnt put me off if I liked the house. I've lived in the same street as a family who had an Italian flag in their window - fine by me. Also neighbours who put up a Vote Green and Vote Labour and it's fine. Live and let live. I wouldn't vote for either, but it's their choice.

I wonder if the OP's neighbour is doing this to make sure he doesn't get any neighbours like her? 🙈 (Far left/woke/judging anyone who has the temerity to fly their OWN country's flag?!)

OP has gone quiet 👀

How's it going @KayleighhMum ? has your neighbour taken down his England flags yet (and his Nigel Farage poster?)

LivingWithANob · 29/08/2025 17:58

Tell your next door neighbour that youve had a couple of nice families who came round who loved the house but were put off with the flag situation. Say youve been looking into the options available and a quick way of selling is via the government for converting it into a hmo situation for housing our new immigrants or the local homeless shelter is branching out to provide a hmo for their residents moving on (this is what the charity i work with does). So if you end up finding your next house and struggling to sell unfortunately, you might be left with no choice (do a really disappointed/sad face here) and leave that thought with them 🤷🏻‍♀️

Zov · 29/08/2025 19:11

That would be funny @LivingWithANob 😆The OP saying she is selling it to the council or an HMO.

But seriously @KayleighhMum - if you're still reading. Maybe just try reasoning with the neighbour, and saying his flag is affecting your house sale, and would he possibly be able to take it down til its sold. Say, will you take the right wing stuff down, and the England flag? Pretty please?' 🙏

Don't go in all combative, and reason with him. Offer him £50 to take it down or something! Give it him when you have an offer!

I mean he is entitled to keep it there, and I know you've had a hard time on here, but if it really is bothering you, just be nice to him about it. Clearly what you have done so far hasn't worked.
