House viewings - neighbour refuses to take down flag - Update

KayleighhMum · 27/08/2025 16:36

Hi all, as a follow up to the previously full thread.

DH spoke to our neighbour again this morning and explained the feedback we received from the first viewings yesterday and that the couple who liked it were put off bidding by the flag.

Our neighbour seemed to understand and said he’d be taking the flag down anyway as the weather is turning.

However, I’ve got home from work to find the flag is still up and he’s also erected a ‘Vote Reform’ banner with Nigel Farage doing a thumbs up pose. So he is clearly taking the piss at this point.

Our estate agent even said to us about having a word so I’ve no idea where we go from here.

Being serious for an interlude, I think the OPs DH has rather queered the pitch, to coin a phrase.

Two men going at it over something like this was never going to work.

There's too much toxic testosterone in the mix now.

Because I am old enough to remember it first time around and this thread gave me a flash of nostalgia for the good old days.

And I have a fucking weird sense of humour at times.

The good old days of what? When racism was accepted as a fact of life? When people thought blackface was funny?

Falseknock · 27/08/2025 17:28

BettysRoasties · 27/08/2025 17:25

There does come a point where the neighbour could complain about being harassed by ops husband to be completely fair.

Twice they have gone round, soon to be three times over the same issue.

All funny for us sitting here saying tell him your let the council rent it out, play mosque music. But it’s not us trying to sell our house.

It worked we fucked up his summer. He tried to tell the police but he's a rat and didn't tell the full story or show the full CCTV he gave to the police. He wasted their time. The police doesn't deal with noise and the council won't do anything. He had to move in the end.

But it’s op who wants to sell up not the neighbour.

Beerpink · 27/08/2025 17:30

Say it will be turned into a HMO For asylum seekers. Play him at his own game. Get him frothing with venom so much that he might give himself a stroke. Just as the rightwingers posters have said. You have agency over your own property!

littleburn · 27/08/2025 17:30

onpills4godsake · 27/08/2025 16:40

I would be tempted to advise them that if you cant sell you have been told about a scheme to sell to the council to use for short term housing of x,y,z -

I wouldn’t actually do this but the thought of their faces when they worry about the people they protest against moving next door would bring me some satisfaction - sounds like an awful situation op!

First post nails it! 😂

bombastix · 27/08/2025 17:30

Interesting one. I can’t think I would be keen myself. But then my neighbours probably wouldn’t entertain it.

However a picture of any politician is where I would draw the line. Seriously, your neighbour is a knob

HisNibs · 27/08/2025 17:31

I said in the last thread that speaking to the neighbour in the first place would be like waving a red flag to a bull. Seems I wasn't mistaken... 🤔

People can be nice and friendly and racist.
I'd like a nice neighbour but I wouldn't buy a house that had a picture of Farage in the next garden.
I'd welcome the flag and poster in this case because then at least I would know.

He abused us and our children if you think it's okay to attack children over the colour of their skin then you really don't have any morals. He was nice at first as well until his true colours came out. We have a lovely neighbour don't hear a peep from them. Even they said how strange he was. He had CCTV all around his house.

You can say what you want about us you are not on the receiving end of the abuse. Should we move or do we stay and stand up for ourselves and fight against bullys. What is there to be patriotic about when your citizens are walking around with a soft palette.

@KayleighhMum - that is genius! And hang your head whilst muttering "yet another HMO ...". Then walk away.

Agree. I'd be gutted to only find out after I'd moved in that my neighbour was a flag waving Reform voter. Unfortunately, and as demonstrated by this and other threads, there are plenty of people who won't be put off by it, you'll just have to sell to another Reformer.

SerendipityJane · 27/08/2025 17:39

Robin67 · 27/08/2025 17:35

Sorry, are you seriously saying that racism is good?

It's not racism. It's being concerned for my country. Are country.

Vote Reform and Nigel will sort it all out. No more undesirables in Britain. And that won't be because they've all gone to grift on the US lecture circuit. No sirreee.

Better things to do than support racism. Oh I do hope so.

moose17 · 27/08/2025 17:41

You asked the first time he said no you should have left it there. Flags seem to be a very big thing in the country at the moment for numerous reasons. My neighbours have a St George flag because her daughter is playing in the rugby World Cup.
