House viewings - neighbour refuses to take down flag - Update

KayleighhMum · 27/08/2025 16:36

Hi all, as a follow up to the previously full thread.

DH spoke to our neighbour again this morning and explained the feedback we received from the first viewings yesterday and that the couple who liked it were put off bidding by the flag.

Our neighbour seemed to understand and said he’d be taking the flag down anyway as the weather is turning.

However, I’ve got home from work to find the flag is still up and he’s also erected a ‘Vote Reform’ banner with Nigel Farage doing a thumbs up pose. So he is clearly taking the piss at this point.

Our estate agent even said to us about having a word so I’ve no idea where we go from here.

i can’t believe so many posters are saying that the Op should bluff. He will call it. And then the OP will have to shuffle off red faced.

It's not racism. It's being concerned for my country. Are country.

Vote Reform and Nigel will sort it all out. No more undesirables in Britain. And that won't be because they've all gone to grift on the US lecture circuit. No sirreee.

It's always the ones that spell like this 😓ALWAYS.

Arrrrr country 😂

Let's all make fun of working class people without teeth who can't spell!

It's hilarious darling! These people don't even have Miele appliances!

When the bien pensant are in meltdown when a populist government is elected in 2029 historians should be pointed to this thread to understand why it might have happened. The REVELS (Rich Enough to even Vote Liebour) will be in meltdown and packing their bags for Dubai PDQ!

coerce: persuade (an unwilling person) to do something by using force or threats

Please tell me how OP or her DH has been using force or threats?

So far OP & her DH seem to have popped round and asked. How is that coercion?

You can't even mock someones lack of teeth these days.

It's political correctness gone mad, I tell you

Scary that some people have such beliefs!

JollyUmberDeer · 27/08/2025 18:18

If reform’s poll lead is anything to go by, he’s done you a favour be attracting a good chunk of the population to want to buy your home. And he’s also protecting himself from living next to far left insufferables by making sure he repels them.

Good on him.

Happyelephants · 27/08/2025 18:27

I think OP definately should see if her council or local housing associations would be interested, there's lots of benefits, especially having no chain, and they're less likely to be concerned about the lovely patriotic man next door.

Also, you could contact an estate agent who specialises in commercial property, as they could possibly shift a property for HMO use faster for you.

OP needs to sell, and can sell to anyone who's willing to buy. Contacting the council or other non-standard buyers shouldn't just be an empty threat to the next door neighbour - no point talking to him again, just do it.

No harm in letting him know they are looking into it.

Once OP sells, I can't imagine she'll be too worried what her old neighbour thinks of her.

But are they “looking in to it” ? No

and you rock up to the council and say “wanna buy my house off me?” Seriously.

and in his shoes, he’d simply google to see whether this “plan” the OP supposedly heard about from a friend was something that existed and see very quickly… the op was talking out of her ass

bluffing is not the way forward unless you are prepared to make a complete tit of yourself

RampantIvy · 27/08/2025 18:37

ShesTheAlbatross · 27/08/2025 17:15

I agree the neighbour can do what he likes, and I wouldn’t have asked him to take the flag down (I would have been worried that buyers might be put off, I just wouldn’t think I should ask him).

But it sounds like what OP has done is ask him twice. It’s a bit of a leap to say she has coerced, bullied, and harassed.

Of course it isn't coercion. Asking someone politely a couple of times does not constitute harassment.

I reckon @DarklingIlisten likes to stir things up. They have posted similar controversial views on other threads.

TheaBrandt1 · 27/08/2025 18:41

Wouldn’t put me off. Not that I agree with the politics but the demographic tend to be quite quiet. You don’t have to be best friends with them. But I’ve had properly bad neighbours (out of control Staffies / gangsta rap / drunken fights in the street). Those are the neighbours they give me the fear.

Edited

A quick google suggests it's possible but not that usual.
Definitely worth looking into.

Why would OP care about looking like a tit in front of a hopefully ex-neighbour with a Farage poster?

BettysRoasties · 27/08/2025 18:49

Problem with the council idea or trying to find a cooperative buyer rather than an organic buyer is that leads op open for low ball offers. She’s going to them wanting to sell.

Depends if she can take the hit on the price.

SlashBeef · 27/08/2025 18:50

🤣 I knew he would do this if you kept asking. He's absolutely playing you.

mylovedoesitgood · 27/08/2025 18:51

Bluffing is a silly idea because he will see through it and perhaps become more antagonistic. The man lives next door to OP.

Your husband was a bloody fool to speak again to him - you were both naive about this. Your estate agent needs changing because this person is clearly a bit shit at their job, saying they will talk to the neighbour, if I’m understanding correctly.

But, at the right price, someone will buy the house. Maybe you could bribe your neighbour? That may work out because something tells me the house will be on the market a while.

Oh come on
it’s a bluff
childish nonsense
he will no doubt have a chuckle over it. Even more than he’s doing already!

Oh dear...........I can't see this ending well at all.

I suggest you ask for both threads to be removed OP.
