House viewings - neighbour refuses to take down flag - Update

KayleighhMum · 27/08/2025 16:36

Hi all, as a follow up to the previously full thread.

DH spoke to our neighbour again this morning and explained the feedback we received from the first viewings yesterday and that the couple who liked it were put off bidding by the flag.

Our neighbour seemed to understand and said he’d be taking the flag down anyway as the weather is turning.

However, I’ve got home from work to find the flag is still up and he’s also erected a ‘Vote Reform’ banner with Nigel Farage doing a thumbs up pose. So he is clearly taking the piss at this point.

Our estate agent even said to us about having a word so I’ve no idea where we go from here.

And would have loved loved loved to have seen your face when you pulled up to Nige's grinning face!!!

This can't actually be true 😆😆😆

But if it is it's delicious 😋

LemondrizzleShark · 27/08/2025 17:12

Everyone told you on the last thread not to bring it up again because it would egg him on. And it has 🤷‍♀️

I wouldn’t want to live next to anyone who’s a fan of Britain First/the EDL either, but obviously he doesn’t want to live next door to anyone who isn’t.

CallMeMessy · 27/08/2025 17:13

As the neighbour is a completely reasonable man, showing his patriotism as he likes, and doing no harm he’ll be fine with an HMO beside him…

whatistheworld · 27/08/2025 17:14

there is no way I would buy a house next to that!

onpills4godsake · 27/08/2025 16:40

I would be tempted to advise them that if you cant sell you have been told about a scheme to sell to the council to use for short term housing of x,y,z -

I wouldn’t actually do this but the thought of their faces when they worry about the people they protest against moving next door would bring me some satisfaction - sounds like an awful situation op!

I love this idea!

deeahgwitch · 27/08/2025 17:15

Mumsnetters are amazingly creative.
No problem can’t be solved.
Genius @onpills4godsake

Nowhere you can go.

And no matter how many threads you start, you know this 🤷‍♂️

I agree the neighbour can do what he likes, and I wouldn’t have asked him to take the flag down (I would have been worried that buyers might be put off, I just wouldn’t think I should ask him).

But it sounds like what OP has done is ask him twice. It’s a bit of a leap to say she has coerced, bullied, and harassed.

BettysRoasties · 27/08/2025 17:15

You were warned. I’d guess next steps would be loud music of a certain type.

Be careful. You don’t want to end up getting yourself involved in some type of neighbour dispute while trying to sell.

No she wasn't she spoke to him politely. He retaliated and showed his patriotism. He doesn't want people like me and my partner to live next door to him. Why else would he retaliate in such a volatile manner.

Why would you share that?

If OP goes around again, he’ll have a poster of Tommy Robinson up next.

DARVO.

Robin67 · 27/08/2025 17:21

Also, could you start to blare "mosque music" at 6 am and 6 pm?

SerendipityJane · 27/08/2025 17:21

I do idly wonder if there will be data showing what house and rental prices are like in areas with flags, compared to areas without flags ?

Presumably areas with flags want lower prices so the locals can get on the housing ladder ?

You’ve lost me I’m afraid.

Falseknock · 27/08/2025 17:22

@DarklingIlisten Racists are easy to deal with. All the op needs to do is make life hard for him. Our neighbour couldn't wait to move we drove him to it. We played that type of music he said he didn't like. He was a rat hiding in the end.

Why would you share that?

Because I am old enough to remember it first time around and this thread gave me a flash of nostalgia for the good old days.

And I have a fucking weird sense of humour at times.

Is his house attached to yours? I'd wind him up back tell him you've sold the house to developers who are turning it into an HMO.

Against a racist with pleasure.

BettysRoasties · 27/08/2025 17:25

There does come a point where the neighbour could complain about being harassed by ops husband to be completely fair.

Twice they have gone round, soon to be three times over the same issue.

All funny for us sitting here saying tell him your let the council rent it out, play mosque music. But it’s not us trying to sell our house.

Or this.

Fluffyhoglets · 27/08/2025 17:26

I would genuinely try and sell to a landlord. They won't care about the neighbours and the neighbours won't be able to do a thing about who moves in.
