To ask if you'll be attending the anti fascism protest on 13 September

I'd like to go in solidarity with like minded people, but worry about it turning violent. I won't be taking my children and will likely be going alone. Lots of people I know detest Tommy Robinson but will stay away due to the likelihood of trouble, but I really want to help send a message that racism and hatred won't win. Is anyone here considering going, or decided to stay away?

I think you have to be wilfully ignorant to not know what this means, really, because I understood it instantly.

I have seldom, if ever in my life had to tell anybody I’m not racist, so if you catch yourself frequently feeling the need to tell someone you aren’t racist because you think they might think you are, then you are racist.

If you’re saying ‘’I’m not racist but…..’’ a lot, then clearly you are racist, and equally, if you’re find you’re getting called racist a lot and you have to keep claiming you’re not, then you are.

And yes, the same applies in other contexts. If, for example, someone felt the need to keep clarifying that they were heterosexual or that they weren’t homosexual then, naturally, others would think they were lying because it’s not a normal thing to keep having to say.

HTH.

Edited

I can gladly state I am not anti-gay men, but I don’t want them having public sex on the streets as happens at ‘Pride’ and ‘gay’ events in the US. Newsflash - many gay men are sick of being gay associated with fetish and ‘Queerness’. It has rolled back years of progress of being seen simply as someone with a same sex orientation. It has also prevented scrutiny of perpetrators such as the founder of pride in Surrey, Stephen Ireland, recently convicted for 24 years for the rape of a 12-year-old boy. Many complaints were made about him and his flagrant breaches of safeguarding but he seems to have been untouchable as an out proud gay queer man. Similarly, saying we don’t want the behaviour of one section of people who happen to be brown or black is not racist - on the contrary it is racist to object to criticism of people from different cultural groups because of their colour. It is the bigotry of low expectation and traps more vulnerable members of that group who are subject to the control of their male ‘leaders’.

@BurlyShriggs "Think Protestants and Catholics murdering each other in the 16th century."

And where do you believe that this was happening?

Did somebody mention the Spanish Inquisition?

misoandchips · 31/08/2025 12:00

It seems one of my posts was removed - probably because I called migrants "grabby".

Here is my experience,

I went to the GPs to collect a script.
There was a long queue at the reception desk.
At the front of the queue were two women wearing black islamic clothing ( abayas ?) they were shouting at the receptionist and waving their arms about, They had a another female with them in Western attire.
Eventually the receptionist said to the 3rd women "Please tell your clients that we have had their documentation from the Home Office and have completed it and returned it. Until we get their ? card back we can't do anything."
It seems the third person was an interpreter.

We have a foodbank in town that serves 300 families. It was open 4 days a week.10-noon.
More than half the recipients are migrants/asylum seekers.
A retired colleague of mine volunteered there one day a week. The volunteers come into the building at 8.00.am and make up boxes containing a weeks supply of items for collection.
These are donated items.
One day some migrants arrived to collect their boxes and when they looked into their box said "This is no good" and threw some items on the floor.

That was the last shift my colleague worked.

Now it only opens 3 days a week because they can't get volunteers

What a surprise - not.

I don’t understand your question. Presumably you realise that this was in Europe?

Did somebody mention the Spanish Inquisition?

The Spanish inquisition was in the 15th Century (commenced in 1476) was devised to root out heresy, particularly among converted Jews and Muslims.

Protestantism didn't occur until 16th Century, which is why I was trying to clarify what the pp was posting about.

Apparently people who don't want limitless illegal immigrants pouring into the country are fascists. My husband is going on the protest but to protest against illegal immigration. And it's a peaceful protest so not thugs or violence

Well done to your husband. I would go for the same reason if I lived nearer! How are people ok with illegal immigrants breaking Into our country?? I don't get it. Also note the rise in sxual assaults and rapes!!!

I’m looking forward to September 13th. Stop illegal immugration and protect our children from further abuse. It is all our jobs to protect the most vulnerable. Great to see all the flags flying far and wide now

Yes to this

misoandchips · 31/08/2025 12:26

@MistressoftheDarkSide "Religious based bloodshed has occurred on multiple occasions worldwide throughout history"

I agree but specifically Protestants v Catholics didn't start before Protestantism was created in 16th Century.

How do you even know "half the food bank recipients are migrants?"
What are you basing that on?!
, Even if they were, would you rather they starved?
That's what people are voicing their discomfort with.
Out and out discrimination (don't want to work with foodbanks any more because I saw a few people being a dick whilst being brown/black)

Well, yes, obviously.

Before that it was the dominant religion -Catholicism - going after anyone they believed wasn't "Catholicking" right, which included those who were Catholic by belief and just had a slightly different take on the dogma.

misoandchips · 31/08/2025 12:37

Serpentstooth · 31/08/2025 12:32

What are you taking about?

Someone posted that the murder of Catholics by Protestants (and vice-versa) was caused by the Spanish Inquisition. That body predated Protestantism by at least 100 years.

misoandchips · 31/08/2025 12:45

@FreezeDriedStrawberries "How do you even know "half the food bank recipients are migrants?"
What are you basing that on?!"

Evidence of my own eyes.

"Even if they were, would you rather they starved?"

How can they starve when they have no outgoings except food and they get about £50 a week per person for that?

If they use food banks then some people are paying twice for these people.

"Out and out discrimination (don't want to work with foodbanks any more because I saw a few people being a dick whilst being brown/black)"

That's the choice of the volunteers who give up their time.

Have you ever worked in a foodbank? Or better still would you be willing to house a migrant family?

That still doesn't answer. Your own eyes? Why not just spit out what you mean as it just sounds like you see someone who's not white and think "migrant?"

And a reminder that those living in "catered accommodation" get considerably less than the figures quoted by the poster above.

Have I ever worked in a foodbank? No, but I regularly donate to them.
I wouldn't stop just because one or two people receiving might be dicks though. Plenty will be in need.

Misoandchips,, read some history.

Serpentstooth · 31/08/2025 13:24

The Spanish Inquisition was officially abolished in 1834. The Protestant Reformation of Europe began in 1517. These were not individual short-lived events. The result of both of these forces meeting was europe-wide and leaves pockets of still unresolved fury dotted around today.

kalevalaa · 31/08/2025 13:30

Which side are the fascists OP, as it's no longer clear?

The side who don't want to protect the hard-won rights of women, the safety of children and support the ethnic cleansing of Jews, or the "far right"?

If Cable Street happened today, which side would the "antifascists" be marching on?

BlueandPinkSwan · 31/08/2025 13:31

You can wave as many banners and protest as much as you want, but nothing will change as far as the government is concerned.
They just see it as the proles having a day out, probable punch ups and the tax payer having to pay the extra policing as usual.
