To think this is a healthy pizza!?

It's from MarksandSparks, to be split in two and shared with a sardine salad. Will add pic with a screenshot of ingredients.

SIL shook her head at it when shopping with me and said it was franken-food. I don't think it's so bad at all, if your'e not jumpy about seed oil. It's lovely with healthy toppings of your own added to it.
Not as good as homemade, but once a week isn't going to murder anyone surely?? Grin

How far do we take this UPF thing?

I once lived on crosta and mollica bread almost daily when travelling around the UK a few years ago. Different fillings, but still white bread. I felt better than I'd ever felt, and my bowels were happy!
They have olive oil though.

I could return to that way of eating in a heartbeat to tell the truth, but I thought I ought to diversify once home again Grin

My fillings were diverse and pretty healthy. I think my body likes bread.
For some reason I can't stand pasta.

Matter of interest, those who won't use seed oil what do you use for cooking?

Butter, olive oil, avocado oil, coconut oil or lard depending on what I'm making.

AudHvamm · 25/08/2025 14:11

Olive oil, butter, coconut oil, sesame oil depending on the cuisine.

I don't deep fry at home so no need to keep a high heat oil in, just get my fill of chips etc when out and about.

Edited

avocado oil or lard takes a high enough heat for steaks and I usually get ghee for roast potatoes when I make them.

intrepidpanda · 25/08/2025 14:26

This is not UPF
Some people have an aversion to seed oils though. This might be her issue.
Seed oils although bad for you are not UPF

Allergictoironing · 25/08/2025 14:27

So all the things that I was brought up using and then we were told were terribly bad for us & must not use under any circumstances. Instead we should always use vegetable oil as it was so much better for us.

I will admit to being a little "cute" with my question. I know perfectly well what the alternatives are and use them myself, but as they are all (bar olive oil) not acceptable to most healthy food faddists them now saying you can't use seed oil either I found a bit amusing.

zingally · 25/08/2025 14:29

Looks delicious! Pizza, cheese, pesto, what's not to like??

Not so sure about the sardine salad though...

I use avocado oil for cooking XV olive oil for dressings.

TheBreezeTheBreeze · 25/08/2025 14:31

well these days it's either big wheat, big oil, big beef or big lies, i can sell you a controversial secret 'they' don't want you to know about, just like my channel and buy my book!

it's so tiring.

Good additions. We are 90% veggie and I've only made roast potatoes once in my life!

Coconut oil and abocado oil have been fadding around through the crunchy health food types to the clean eaters so not sure I agree with your point about those. Butter though, that's had good recent PR after the wilderness years 😂

I use olive, avocado or sesame. Sometimes just herbs and spices and don’t bother with any oil.

Grass fed butter though... :)

I just use cold pressed rapeseed oil, its made locally and it has better health advantages then Olive oil

Used it to spray my plastic infested sardines and my poisonous tomatoes, peppers and aubergines before grilling them on the charcoal fuelled BBQ

Thankfully I avoided the nicotine laden spuds

BigBoysDontCry · 25/08/2025 14:47

I've not always been as careful with my diet but after a bit of a health scare and a brush with diabetes, i'm much more mindful of what I eat. I still get the odd takeaway and eat out and you can't be sure what is in that food. Everything in moderation and it's good to have your rules for yourself, but if I was at someones house then I would eat what they served.

Mistyglade · 25/08/2025 15:04

As a rule for me no pizza is healthy as such but that ingredient list is surprisingly ok and with a salad it’s really lovely. I’d eat it and I’m quite fussy as have annoying health issues. Your sis needs to chill man!

My fillings are mainly amalgam though I did once have a gold one.

Rapeseed oil is absolute poison to some people - me included! It produces very unpleasant gastric symptoms. It seems to be in almost everything you buy these days and is so hard to avoid. I wish it could be banned and we could revert to sunflower oil.

That’s like saying peanuts are poison because some people are allergic to them. Most people are fine with rapeseed oil - and it’s a great choice as it’s smoke point is much higher than other oils.

I'm always a bit 🤔 when people have salad with a pizza. What do you do shovel in a load of salad then a bite of your pizza, or eat your salad then your pizza, lettuce and pizza just don't go.

did....you literally just ask how to eat a salad?

There's been a lot of competition this year, but, guys, we've found it. 2025's most ridiculous post.

No don't be so silly 😂🤭🤭 what I was saying in all my posts was that I was confused as to why people had salad with pizza, I then asked how they eat their salad with a pizza, as in shovel in a load of cold lettuce leaves into their mouth then a bite of hot pizza at the same time or eat the salad first. I was saying cold lettuce and hot pizza don't go together, it's like eating a salad with a curry. 😲😂

Avocado oil is not a seed oil but I don't use sesame oil so I haven't really looked into it.

I’m going to be that person now but..making pizza from your own sourdough starter is really quick and easy and tastes amazing.

I mean you do have to do the faff of getting a starter going etc but once it’s established it’s incredibly easy to do pizza with. And you can control what oil you use and the toppings.

But a salad doesn't consist of just cold lettuce leaves.

In fact a salad doesn't have to include lettuce at all.

Certainly none of the salads I make have lettuce as an ingredient.

All my salads go perfectly with half a pizza
