To think the sonographer could be wrong?

I’ve been told girl but I just feel like it’s protruding too much? AIBU to question this or do I just trust what the trained sonographer says? 🤷🏼‍♀️

Any parents with girls out here who had similar potty shots? I don’t know whether to book another scan somewhere else

Pretty sure they know what they are doing.

SouthLondonMum22 · 23/08/2025 21:44

Looks like a girl to me.

cc99xo · 23/08/2025 21:44

Idk I’ve heard stories about getting the sex wrong at 15/16 weeks. Hopefully I’ve got nothing to worry about :)

I can't interpret the scan as I have no idea what im looking at but they can absolutely get it wrong.
I know as it happened to me! Was told a girl but gave birth to a boy who was dressed pink and fluffy for his first week of life.

steff13 · 23/08/2025 21:45

I think they're accurate about 85% of the time. I think it looks like a girl.

Why would you book another scan? It's not as though you'll never find out.

cc99xo · 23/08/2025 21:45

It’s only because people tell me about the ‘three lines’ but it’s not on my scan. But maybe it’s not clear on every girl ultrasound!

If you’re 15/16 weeks just wait a few weeks for your anomaly scan and then you’ll know for sure!

Sparklybanana · 23/08/2025 21:46

A willy is quite obvious on these type of shots. I dont think they're wrong.

Pretty sure they know what they are doing.

Which is not about judging sex, but checking the health of babies..

Vodkamartini3olives · 23/08/2025 21:47

Well it's not an exact science is it. What difference would questioning it make?. You'll know for sure in a few months time.

happyLittleAG · 23/08/2025 21:47

Looks like a boy to me. Sometimes they are wrong, especially in the early stages

Yes I have my anomaly scan with a private consultant at 18 weeks but the sex is the last thing on my mind that day but I guess it’ll be nice to have it confirmed 😊

It's a salmon steak. Congratulations!

VickyEadieofThigh · 23/08/2025 21:49

I know I'm not the only one who cannot make anything out in that scan shot.

cc99xo · 23/08/2025 21:49

@PamIsAVolleyballChampActually this was a private ultrasound at peek-a-baby purely to find out the sex.

Why would you worry though?

Hillarious · 23/08/2025 21:57

You’ll find out soon enough. Is there a special reason why you need to know now?

AlligatorTears · 23/08/2025 21:58

Of course they can get it wrong.

yabu to think the randomers of mumsnet know better than a trained sonographer.

marzipanpan · 23/08/2025 22:01

Did they give an indication of how confident they are?

I think at 15/16 weeks I would assume it’s probably a girl but wouldn’t go all out with a gender reveal or telling people until it’s confirmed at a later scan.

cc99xo · 23/08/2025 22:03

@marzipanpanHe was sure it was a girl. I guess I’m worried as my son was there with me and he’s always dreamt of this ‘baby sister’ and I’d feel bad getting his hopes up. Of course he’d get over it but after multiple losses, seeing how excited he was about the thought of a baby sister made me so happy. I guess after all the pain and suffering I’ve been through I just question things a lot more and feel a lot more anxious in this pregnancy

OP posts:
marzipanpan · 23/08/2025 22:07

I would assume it’s a girl then if they were confident. I’ve known people to be specifically told ‘90% sure’ etc

Sorry for your losses. If against the odds it does turn out to be a little boy I’m sure you could easily hype up having a baby brother to your son, if he’s happy and excited about the thought of a new baby in general I doubt he would be too heartbroken.

TheNightingalesStarling · 23/08/2025 22:08

They don't tell you if they aren't sure. They weren't sure on my 2nd DD.

CurlewKate · 23/08/2025 22:08

Such a bad idea to take other children to scans!

Zonder · 23/08/2025 22:10

Does it matter?

Time to manage expectations with your son - I'm surprised they agreed to him being present.

johnd2 · 23/08/2025 22:11

To Be honest you don't want to get too hyped up in your minds eye, your baby will be their own person gradually over the next 20 years so get in practice from day one (minus 100?) of taking them as they come!
