Should be held at the council offices, Government departments, rather than the migrant hotels? After all, it's due to the government's lack of processing that the migrants are there?

@VaseofViolets if they have their own families who will be educated here, they've still saved us money by not requiring it themselves. And they've added the the birth rate which we need.
The idea that people need to be fully integrated and won't learn English is a myth. Look at how many immigrants built their own businesses here in the 60s and 70s when people wouldn't employ them. They are responsible for getting their own housing, so housing isn't a problem (the housing crisis isn't a result of over population, it's a crisis caused by an economic system that encourages rich people to use property as an investment opportunity - a huge % of London property is owned by off shore investors)
I've worked with many people claiming asylum, they are almost always keen to work and work damm hard once they're allowed the opportunity to do so. There will always be exceptions I know, but going through circumstances that they have tends to leave pretty damn motivated.

If they come as an educated adult, with no health conditions and no dependents, then that’s great - that’s the kind of immigration we want. But I can’t see the financial benefit of large numbers of low-skilled people who don’t speak English (and having to learn, or be taught).

The housing situation is a mess, I agree with you - but surely we need to take steps to address that before adding large numbers of people, many of whom will require social housing, to the problem? It’s a recipe for disaster. It’s not fair on the British-born person or the immigrant to be competing for ever-dwindling resources, surely? It can only lead to the kind of discontent we’re seeing now. It would be different conversation if we had plenty of housing to go around, but we don’t, and there’s nothing in the works to alleviate this issue. Nothing is being built in the quantities we need.

And the cultural issues still remain, however well we might manage the financial side of things. That’s a hugely problematic issue that the government just isn’t willing or able to fix at this point. It all seems so hopeless and I have no faith in politicians to sort any of this out, the problems are just insurmountable now.

TheLizardQueen · 23/08/2025 19:06

How many of you have a hotel full of 18-35 year old illegal immigrant males housed within a mile from you? Where they wander the streets and children’s play parks in groups. There are no women and children in these hotels. Different story if there was. Where are all the women and children 🤔

Why are you doing this? Do you expect me to read a link about moving to Australia? Why?

Apologies, I just read your previous post. The age thing makes sense.

Viviennemary · 23/08/2025 19:10

Those migrants seem to be drawn to the UK becaise they get better treatment here than in other countries. They aren't even asylum seekers but commercial migrants looking for a better life. We can't take in the whole world.

When I said I cannot get a visa, I was well aware of the ages visas are generally offered up to in desirable suitable countries.

I wouldn't have said it if I had no clue about visa restrictions, would I?

VaseofViolets · 23/08/2025 19:12

ThatWaryOchreQuoter · 23/08/2025 18:43

A lot of what you are saying would make sense if the person immigrating earns over £50k or whatever the break even is for tax without children at school and is not, for example, a Deliveroo rider. Maybe a sensible, massively reduced immigration policy where only families who are net contributors can immigrate to the U.K.? And we keep it under say 100k for a couple of years? Wouldn’t a lot of the issues simply go away?

I think the problem is that a sensible immigration policy should have been in effect years ago. These issues have been talked about for years. Couldn’t all these problems have been avoided? The UK for 20 years has voted for parties that promised to lower immigration, but once elected, they didn’t do it - why would the public have any faith that they’d do it now?

It shouldn’t have had to come to this. When the electorate feel they’re being ignored, their concerns not taken seriously, their very real problems mocked or dismissed - it can only end badly. We’ve seen that in America and the rise of Trump.

I agree, immigration running at over a million for the past few years is simply reckless. Saying that, it’s never too late…people need to keep the pressure up so that they are finally listened to. I suspect the GE will be a proxy referendum on immigration.

No not businesses but councils. People have to pay additional council tax so these immigrants get their vouchers and freebies. This is what is causing anger among people. They struggle to pay increased council tax and often can't afford to pay for their own DC to swim then see council has issued immigrants DC free swimming, yoga, gardening or heavily discounted swimming, yoga, gardening etc. It causes friction and is unnecessary.

I think you’ll find the cost of running a swimming pool or leisure centre is the same regardless of who uses it. My council tax is used in this way although I never use those facilities. Presumably discounts apply only during times of underuse anyway.

Around here, last night, there were protests. Most of them were normal mums and dads. I’m not sure what type of people you think they are. 🤷‍♀️

Racist mums and dads are the type of people they are. Why does being a parent preclude you from being a wrongun? Fred and Rose West were a mum and dad.

BaileysMacaroons · 23/08/2025 19:39

Apparently they've let in half a million migrants in just 2 years. Who knows if they're telling the truth.

People are angry at what's happened to their country.
Thank the immigration maximalists, Boris and Blair.

Many (most?) of the people who have arrived are unvetted, young men. To put that into perspective we're an aging country, and the average Englishman is 40+.

You must've seen the reports about assaults, sexual assaults, threatening behaviour from some of the new guests. A guy from South Sudan was arrested for loitering outside a school in Manchester with multiple weapons. I saw a video of a man in a migrant hotel, staring into the camera and running his thumb across his throat?? Thanks for the asylum, I'll be outside a school with my weapons now. There's an article in The Express: "School kids warned to avoid migrants." Wtf. Thanks Boris, Patel, Keir, Blair.

You do know that migrants in their home countries would fight tooth and nail to prevent similar influxes? Egypt shoots DEAD asylum seekers trying to cross. Google it. Riddles them with bullet holes, no questions asked.

Do you think Pakistan had buses of citizens out on the streets with placards saying Refugees Welcome, Thank Allah for Immigrants when they kicked out thousands of Afghans recently?

Few other nations but ours and a smattering of Europeans do such progressive things. Brits, Anglos and Northern Euros are uniquely liberal and accommodating compared to other groups. This has worked for us well up until now and now we're in a bit of a pickle. Its actually kind of hilarious how us most progressive of progressive people's has allowed large-scale migration from some of the most insular, least progressive groups on planet earth.

I agree that more of our anger should be at Govt departments because no matter what the public says (votes Brexit gets the Boris Wave) they do the opposite and that isn't the fault of migrants. If they would listen to the people then there wouldn't be these migrant hotel protests.

I'm worried about rising totalitarianism and exploit the migrant crisis to curb our freedoms, and I want my kids to grow up in a country that values its borders. So, yes, I support more anger and scrutiny on Government. Agree.

Half a million? it was 900k in 2024 alone. In 2023 it was 1.5 million, admittedly that’s the highest it’s ever been.

I really struggle with people who bring up the issue of men evening arriving without women and children, because it's so obvious why that I genuinely don't know if people are trolling.

Fleeing a country and travelling illegally is exceptionally dangerous. It would be far more dangerous for women and children. You send the person who has the most chance of surviving the journey. If their claim is granted, they apply for their family to join.
From my experience of working with (mainly young male teen) asylum seekers, the journeys often take six months or more and involve working illegally along the journey in order to afford the next stage. You can imagine the risks to them, let alone if there were women with them. Back home, its usually the young men who are at most direct risk also, eg of being forced to fight or being targeted for being on the 'wrong' side of whatever regime is in power).

Great!

Absolutely staggering numbers. It’s just not possible to assimilate or integrate so many.

Seemingly the political class put no thought into how this might all work out. They just hoped for the best - and we’ve let them down. They’re annoyed the general public can’t just ignore the problems and pretend everything’s going swimmingly. They’re committed to this course of action, their progressive world view and they can’t admit it’s falling apart.

Reminds me of Brecht: “Some party hack decreed that the people had lost the government's confidence and could only regain it with redoubled effort. If that is the case, would it not be be simpler, if government simply dissolved the people and elected another?”

We all know that’s what happens but you’ve literally explained why this is so much of a problem as each one of those men will be trying to bring over another five to ten people. How on earth are we housing all these new people? I just don’t know what we’re doing and what the plan is.
