To be shocked women still try to stop aging?

With alllll the progress we've made within the feminism movement, why is trying to look younger (neck aging, face-lifts, longer hair is 'youthful') still a thing.

Every being is aging right, why do women still carry the shame of it? Being told you look even three years younger is actually intended and received as a compliment.

If we all collectively shun this shit, the industry that forces us to buy its crap, we'll be so much better off. Mentally, financially everything really.

This is great. Whats the 'right' side of 50? What happens when you're not there anymore?

Again, pick your side.

You have the luxury of choice. If you are happy with looking old, or older than you are, no one is stopping you. No one actually care or want you to do anything. Just don't resent and be bitter against others who do.

My shock is that women have really come far in fighting for their rights and equality. In every area of life really. Yet, we've allowed them to keep us dancing this don't age dance.

Why do we dye our hair?
Laser off our wrinkles?
Burn them off with acid?
lift our tits?
tuck our tummies?

It's not even so we remain fuckable in middle age to be honest. It's like it's impolite that we dont try to remain fuckable for them- so we spend all our money and put ourselves through pain to show effort. Fuckable to them is young, obviously.

You do realise a lot of women do these things because they are simply comparing themselves to other women, wanting to look good around other women and it's not always because they want random men to find them fuckable. Plenty women in loving respectful relationships still get tweakments, surgery etc.

why do you need to ask, you know exactly what I meant 😂

happyLittleAG · 22/08/2025 19:01

I’m quite pleased that we have so many options in this day and age to keep us looking young. I’ve been doing skin care since age 20 (creams, wearing sunscreen, micro needling with and without PRP, etc.) and trying to take good care of my health in general (stay hydrated, eat well, get enough sleep, etc.) and people think I still look about 18-20 eight, almost nine years later.

Whether we engage in anti-aging routines or not, youthful looking women are always going to be treated better by men, because that’s what men are attracted to, and that’s how they behave, subconsciously or consciously. Why not take advantage?

You're happy you look 18 at 28? And that makes you happy beacuse "treated better by men, because that’s what men are attracted to, and that’s how they behave, subconsciously or consciously. Why not take advantage?"

What if men treated all women well without connecting it to their youth/looks?

With respect, OP, you’re only 38. No doubt I felt the same then.

I was surprised at how depressed I feel when I realise that my skin has lost its elasticity. I wasn’t too bothered about going a bit grey and I’ve never really had wrinkles but my skin has unexpectedly bothered me. When your parents have died and the rest of the older generation are ill, dementia all over the place, and dying, and you realise you’re more than halfway through your life and what have you done or achieved.

And societally a lot of the burden of dealing with the older generation (as well as dealing with your own kids) falls on women.

So perhaps trying to perk yourself up with some nice skincare is hardly the worst thing. Of course it’s part of making money out of female insecurity. It’s not a feminist thing to do.

But I’ve actually quite liked making my skin look nicer (for me), wearing a wee bit of make up. It brings me some joy.

I buy loads of books as well. No doubt that’s a waste of money and publishing are simply milking women who want to escape from their lives through a book for a while, yes?

I think the actual percentage of women who have botox/fillers is around 7-9%. So most don’t.

I obviously see more given my job
But what i mean is dont assume.
I have so many different job types/ demographic that come to my clinic.
I still think a lot of people have it too. I'd have said more than the 7-9% but obviously my numbers are skewed.

I do always wonder why people get so irate about it all. I have botox and don't care if people don't. Neither would my clients.
Yet the other way around... crazy.

>You're happy you look 18 at 28?

Yes. 18 year olds are adults, and if I look 18 at 28, maybe I’ll look 30 at 40.

>What if men treated all women well without connecting it to their youth/looks?

What if? I think they always will, even if they don’t intend to. They’re just wired that way. Like I said, you can either take take advantage, or not.

CyanDreamer · 22/08/2025 19:28

it's that old joke about Botox, but it works for everything else.
When everybody else around you is doing it, you don't have Botox to look younger, you have it to look your age - because in comparaison you look way older without.

That's why people get irate. Which brings the question, when they are so happy and superior about being "natural", why do they care?

who said they don't?
But frankly, you don't chose who you find attractive or not. If you have the right to find a man attractive, or not, why can't they?

I don't find a man letting himself go remotely attractive, physically it's just a big no. So what?

CatCollector · 22/08/2025 19:30

CyanDreamer · 22/08/2025 18:49

I think people who chose to stay "natural" resent those who love the cosmetic industry because it creates a gap.

When everyone around you look 10 or 15 years younger thanks to cosmetic procedure, then you look old. People don't like that.

If you smooth a few wrinkles, get rid of grey hair, whiten your teeth, firm your skin a bit, you look younger. A 60 year old will never look 20, but you can look like you are on the right side of 50, or like a very tired 60+ year old.. It's a choice.

The difference is that people who go all out to stop aging don't resent or care about others who don't.

They don't look younger though they look odd.
I can't think of a single person I know who looks 15 years younger in my age group 50-55
You are talking about a 55 year looking 40 which is ludicrous
All the younger women having all this botox/ filler don't look younger either -we are now seeing late 30s having face lifts because of sagging.

It's all a huge con
Ps 55ish, well groomed , happily married, SPF, zero alcohol ,exercise, eat well , feel great and am told I look good before you start going on about how miserable I am!

CatCollector · 22/08/2025 19:33

Just baffled at the delusional!

NC543210 · 22/08/2025 19:35

I can think of a few women who look barely 30 when they are in their 40s, and it goes up. People are actually shocked when they realise how old their oldest children are, because they do look younger.

Of course it's a thing.

I love when people say that. You assume what people's age are, but you don't know the age of a complete stranger.

I can't think of a single person I know who looks 15 years younger in my age group 50-55
You know their age, so you can decide they look their age and that's that. If they were complete stranger, and had a bit of work done, you wouldn't know.

Or you would think they don't look so tired, or just they look better . Who cares.

No one is saying that Kate Middleton looks "odd", she has the perfect amount of work in the most subtle way.

I don't think people can be "delusional" about other people. If you think a friend or someone you know looks great, it's genuine. How can you be delusional?

Im on holiday in a hot sunny place, the youngsters all look amazing with their youth. I want that as I didn't appreciate it first time round!!!

Let people life as they want to. I want to age as slowly as is possible.

Come now. Its a common enough expression. There are two positions (or sides, if you will) that one can be in (on) with regards to a given age. Younger than or older than. Younger than has for pretty much always been referred to as the 'right' side. For both men and woman, on account of having more life ahead of you than behind you, is generally regarded as a positive. For health, for opportunities, to continue to enjoy existing.

Fruitsherbert · 22/08/2025 19:45

Does anyone actually believe they look older than people they went to school with? In real life, I mean, not photos. I work with enough people around my age to realise that yeah, give or take, we all look mid 40s. But I see them every day. If I see someone I haven't seen for years, I think :bloody hell, they've aged. I'm doing well. But they probably go home and think the same about me.

If anyone says i don't seem my age, it's usually because they're younger than me and have a view in their heads of what my age is. I know lots of 80 yr old. They don't seem 80. But that's because 80 is still my 10yr old's view of 80. They're certainly dying off like 80 yr olds.

Of course not. That’s so clearly not what she’s saying.

But you are going to exist for a lot less time once you’re over 50, aren’t you? My dad didn’t even make it to retirement before dropping down dead at 63.

I think that’s such a good point - we don’t appreciate it when we have it. And that’s kind of annoying!
