To think if you're that fond/proud of your national flag, you should probably know which way up it goes?

Of all the Union Flags that have appeared, a huge percentage seem to be upside-down.

Now, I agree with the basic sentiment that people should be able to display their national flag if they choose, that flags should be respected. I think it's very sad that the flag has been appropriated by right wing groups/views.

Which ever camp you fall in, if you're going to put it up, put it the right way up. They're really doing the opposite of respecting it other wise!

But if people wanting to leave their country could apply via proper channels and access safe modes of transport, they wouldn't use the traffickers in the first place. They wouldn't have to work unpaid for months, often illegal, to repay the trafficking debt, and they wouldn't have to get rid of their documents and hide in dangerous places when travelling.

Give these people a better way of travellng, grant them asylum and the right to travel, and these gangs' entire business model falls apart.

This is why I asked you how it would work. The reason application outside the UK isn't considered is because the UK would be inundated with claims. Processing hubs were considered in France under the Tories but they decided against doing it outside the UK. Instead they decided to create a 'hostile environment'.

Starmer was looking at a hub in Albania for people to be deported but not processed.

They're people smugglers, not traffickers.

Just asking a question here but the argument about allowing safe routes, wouldn’t there be potentially millions applying for it ? How would the UK be able to cope with applications?

If people failed , they’d presumably just come by boat anyway wouldn’t they ?

Despite what we're told there's not a queue of millions upon millions of people just queueing up to come to this delightful little island. And if the second part of your question is sincere then there's no point coming on a boat because their application has been heard.

And probably accepted because most are

I thought the right way to display the union flag was determined by the pole. So if there is no pole do we always presume the pole is on the left?

Edited

Your first sentence is absolutely correct. The rule about the diagonals is white above red at the hoist (ie flagpole). With no pole, the flag can't be upside down.
In the picture below, both flags are the correct way round.

The term "UNION JACK" is correct and is not reserved just for ships. In 1902, an official Admiralty Circular declared that the Union Flag could officially be known as the Union Jack for any use. This ruling was later approved by the UK Parliament in 1908.

Kier Starmer is not a leftie he is centre left. The Tories wiped out the money and starved the services. It will take them a few years to sort out the mess. The tax loop hole for the rich will end next year April when inheritance tax on farmland kicks in.

You couldn't come up with a better/faster way to move all food production into the hands of large corporations.

What could possibly go wrong?

And they got the poor/commies to cheer for this. A beautiful move.

Do you think the big boys will be looking to hire the illegal immigrants as slave labour, or do you think they will go full automation once the own most of the farmland?

I guess we are gonna find out. 😁
