  • WHATS Not whatsapp (thanks predictive text!) 😅
My DD, 1 at the time, had the slightest runny nose, a little sneeze and MIL screeched, “You better call the Doctor and demand you get seen this afternoon! You better had, or you’ll have social services at your door for neglect!” That sneeze never transpired into a cold….. But whats the craziest thing your MIL has said? This is NOT a MIL bashing thread, but it perplexes me that woman says the darndest things, but thats just who she is as a person! I do love her, she just confuses me.

I forgot the racism ! Despite being ex pats she hates immigrants (the hypocrisy is unbelievable), supported Brexit despite living in Spain at the time and posts all the ridiculous ‘Muslims are banning Christmas/Easter/poppies’ rubbish.
Im NC now, cannot be arsed

My mil and pil regularly told us what terrible parents we were. Kids were too skinny and their brains would
never develop properly because we didn't feed them right. They were the worst behaved kids they'd ever come across (and yet the rest of the world used to regularly tell us the opposite) because we hadn't modelled how to behave.
Fast forward a couple of decades and they are now fully functioning, polite adults with university degrees and jobs (I'm aware that other measures of "success" are available!) and apparently it's all because we are such brilliant parents.

My mil is a wonderful women. My mother on the other hand ...... I could write a book on the shit that's come out of her mouth in my direction over thr years.

The worst thing I have heard her say was aimed towards her dil, my brothers wife. Back in the late 80s, sil gave birth to a child with downs syndrome. There'd been no scans or tests done for downs during pregnancy so everything was a complete shock. My sil was adamant that if she'd have known, then she would have had an abortion - as is her right. My mum went around telling everyone that she wouldn't have done. Righto mum, whatever you say.

When discussing my wedding dress she came out with this beaut! “Our Jane is fat like you and she still looked ok in white” I was a size12/14!

When we told mil I was pregnant she hissed at me (when dh was out the room) that his ex had wanted his babies... I never told dh.
And mil dumped us and hasn't seen ds is 10 years since he was 3 months old
.

At birth my child was my absolute double, it was commented on by the doctor as she delivered her and then everyone who met her, it was a real copy and paste job. At a few days old my MIL sat on the sofa holding the baby and proceeded to list every obscure relative of hers and assign them to a body part of the baby - Second cousin Mary’s ears, great uncle Barry’s top lip and so on. I didn’t feature…

I relate! My narc mother told everyone who would listen that my DD looked she (my mother) and my husband had a baby together.

platinumanddiamonds · 22/08/2025 18:15

My mother in law was a great mum and gran but sometimes said inappropriate things.
when I had my first son my mum had been admitted to hospital as an emergency?heart attack.
He was overdue skin peeling and lookEd like a skinny rabbit.
She first said “oh I thought you’d have a girl”then “he looks like a starved prisoner of war!”
everyone just sat with their mouths hanging open.
She learned to love that boy more than she could have imagined and we laughed many times about her comment. 🤣

How MN loves threads which bash older women. THey are so misogynistic.
What about FILS? On MN the hate posts seem mainly to focus on MILS, SILS and step daughters. These threads are so anti women.

I took this thread as a light hearted reminder of things said without meaning to be nasty

tealandteal · 22/08/2025 18:32

Not my MIL but my DM, when talking about what she remembered from her own grandmothers house, asked my DH if he remembered when fridges became common in houses? Given that he is the same age as me(early thirties) and she had said she didn’t remember this, definitely not!

Hoppinggreen · 22/08/2025 18:36

She asked me if I had been monitoring DH while doing his breathing into a tube thingy The GP had asked him to do once a day to check lung function
I suggested that as he was 30 years old with 2 hands and a responsible job he could probably manage on his own she replied
"well you would do it for one of your cats"

chilliheeler123 · 22/08/2025 18:48

She screamed at me and told me that I was worthless, and that even my own ‘bitch of a mother’ had abandoned me. I was 26, DP and I were living in our own home and my Mum was on a two-week holiday 🤣

She was drunk at the time, DP asked her to leave and she responded by punching me in the face. We cut her off there and then, and it’s been a wonderful 5 years! Awful, bloody monstrous woman.

PS: my Mum is perfectly lovely, and returned from her holiday as expected 🤣

Utterlyexhausted · 22/08/2025 18:56

That it’s my dh’s fault she has urinary incontinence! 😂

"Are you going to give me grandchildren?"

I was over 50 when we wed.

MaltWispa · 22/08/2025 19:27

Wanting to give my DD, who was about 2/3 months at the time, Calpol just because she wasn't happy being held by her....! (Obviously I didn't, but this was repeated several times - nothing wrong with her at all, was just fussy with everyone other than me!).

BettysRoasties · 22/08/2025 19:30

When we announced our impending arrival very happily and excitedly, she asked if we needed her to fix it.

Fils never said anything bonkers or weird so couldn’t add anything from him to the moaners. My dad barely talks let alone texts, mum just rabbits on but she’s never said anything out there.

Sorry, what? She asked if you wanted her to terminate your pregnancy? Have I read this wrong?

You’ve read it right.

Soporalt · 25/08/2025 17:13

Many, but here’s a recent one. Our DD is a polyglot married to a lovely man from a European country. Apparently they shouldn’t be bringing up their DC bilingually because they live in England.

Absolutely 0 involvement with SS at all. She just says stuff like this sometimes,

My dgm told my dm my dB would have to get rid of his dog when his child was born as ss would take the child 🙄, i also had a dog and young children but it was never brought up to me 😆. She didn't like his wife . Never any ss involvement either just an intense dislike for my dbs wife.

CurlewKate · 15/10/2025 16:39

Yep. Let’s have a thread mocking older women.

I'd never mock my grandmother, it turns out she was spot on in the end.
