Just read this awful story in the Guardian. Awful and makes me feel so angry and so unsafe as a half Black woman.

You think being a 'good immigrant' will save you from the racist thugs? The ones calling for 'remigration' of not just illegal immigrants but literally everyone who's not white British? Don't contribute to their narratives, think about where they lead.

This is so true. Some posters would be wise to heed this warning.

And yes racism is absolutely getting worse. It’s like some weird hysterical breakdown that the racists are experiencing en masse.

Rainydayinlondon · 20/08/2025 22:23

@rockstarshoesYou should listen to Paula Sutton who decamped from London to Norfolk and was indeed welcomed into the small, very white village.
If you want to live in the countryside, you should absolutely do so otherwise you’ll spend your life wondering “What if”?

Hmm well that could be said that many of the " white british" moved out of London to avoid the " diversity" Believe it was called " white flight" in the 80s

I'm sure a lot of things could be said if you're that way inclined. People are desperate to live in London because it's one of the best cities in the world, however it's phenomemally expensive so out of reach for many. Amazingly, a very diverse city where people live harmoniously. Much to the chagrin of the agenda driven.

I dont think they were suggesting that we stop immigrants coming here. This poster came here because they liked our country, and wanted to integrate into it, bit the ones they are concerned about are the ones who don't like our country and have a wish to harm it. Those 2 things are very different. The vast majority of people welcome those who wish to come here, work, contribute, and who respect and uphold our values around equality, women's rights etc, although of course there are a small amount of people who hate all immigrants because they are just horrible narrow minded racist people

But to dislike seeing groups of women within some cultures in our country being systematically oppressed, beaten, mutilated, hidden away, forbidden from working or learning English does not make me racist. So many families I work with, all the men are dressed in western clothes, speak English, work, drive and socialise. The women cannot speak English, so all communication with them is filtered through a man (we offer an interpreter but most times this is declined), they literally have no voice and therefore no say in decisions being made about their child. They are at home looking after children, having a child every year as not permitted to seek birth control, in arranged marriages to cousins which we are seeing more and more as a cause for children being born with complex genetic abnormalities, and then being blamed by the wider family for their child being disabled and subjected to verbal and physical abuse. The scale of this issue is so vastly underestimated, as no one will mention it for fear of being labelled racist.

There is a lot of hatred - and saying it out loud seems to be celebrated rather than reviled. It is very worrying.

dreamingbohemian · 20/08/2025 22:25

Around 70% of those who arrive by boat are granted asylum. Do you think people want to risk drowning to get here? Set up safe legal routes and you can winnow out the people who don't belong and get rid of the traffickers.

MummytoE · 20/08/2025 22:27

Social media doesn't help. People can be as anonymous as they like. Can spout all sorts of racist and xenophobic nonsense without any recourse.

You see the world as you want it to be, not as it actually is, if you think a borderless world is ever, ever going to be achievable.

I have absolutely zero respect for humans who believe in child marriage, slavery, FGM or other deplorable practices. I don’t want to live in a country where this is acceptable. Am I the problem, in your mind? Am I the one getting in the way of you achieving your beautiful dream?

Who would "the usual suspects" be?

She means the white liberal middle class that like to take offence on behalf of everyone else. The ones that claim to hate racism then patronise and belittle them. Malcom x did warn of these people.

EmeraldShamrock000 · 20/08/2025 22:31

I agree.
It's more important than ever to address this issue as it happens.

The Internet and immigration news stories are stoking the flames.

I hope you stay safe, OP.

I am embarrassed by society.

Best city? I suppose if you can afford to live in the fancy bits and have loads of money. Less so if you are in Newham or tower hamlets in a crappy tower block

As a thread on here showed recently, lots of people think there is a World of difference between non-white people going to the park and non-white men from the local hotel specifically lurking around the play equipment when there is plenty of park available. Valid or not, it's something that people feel. Watch the news. Pretty stupid to pretend otherwise.

How do you know "people from the local hotel" a) are illegal immigrants b) are even FROM "the local hotel"? Are you following them? Are you from the Home Office and know their immigration status?
There aren't any benches in our local park that AREN'T near the playground for the sensible reason that parents like to keep an eye on their kids.
What next - parent waits for child outside school while black?

London is a crime riddled hell hole

It really isn’t. It’s a major global financial centre with many beautiful historic buildings, numerous theatres, galleries and museums which attracts visitors from all over the world.

The Metropolitan Police force area has a lower crime rate than many of the UK's other major police forces, such as West Yorkshire, Greater Manchester, and South Yorkshire.

The rise in crime in London happened alongside a decline in both personnel and funding for the London Metropolitan Police. Compared with 2010 for example, there were around 3,000 fewer police officers in 2018, while annual funding was reduced to around 3.3 billion pounds between 2013/14 and 2018/19, compared with 3.62 billion in 2012/13. These cuts were due to the policy of austerity that was implemented by the UK government during that time period, but this has recently been replaced by pledges to increase spending and to recruit more police.

England major cities crime rate 2025| Statista

In the 2024/25 reporting year, West Yorkshire Police reported a crime rate of 114.5 crimes per 1,000 population, the highest crime rate among the provided police force areas whose territories include large cities.

We need safe legal routes, much faster processing, so those who are granted refugee status can get on with starting to work, contribute and build a life, and effective removal of people who are here illegally. We also need a better arrangement than putting people in hotels while they wait. And we really, really need to tackle the people-smugglers more effectively. What we don't need to do is further persecute people who are just trying to get somewhere they can live safely.

Not really. Out of my daughters current class in primary, around half are people who have left London in the past 5-10 years (including us) - looking for a better work life balance, a calmer safer healthier environment for their child to grow up in - all educated professionals. We can be in Paddington in under 20 mins by train, so can visit London, but no way we would ever live there again.
House prices in our village have gone up fast in past few years and now cost more than zone 4 London. Our estate agent friend says about 80% of his enquiries come from young families living in mid to outer west London looking to move to the countryside. People definitely do not all live harmoniously in London, there are pockets of segregation.

Yes, people move in and out of London all the time. That's very common for big cities, they can be transient. People do tend to live harmoniously in London, my area is very diverse like many areas and there aren't daily race fights.

You just don’t want to see it, that’s the trouble. It upsets your idealistic view of the world where everyone from totally different cultures with totally different values get along beautifully. You’d prefer to live in your fantasy world, pretend you don’t see the problems and shout down anyone who tries to draw your attention to them.

You’ll shut your eyes until you can’t any longer and then claim to be surprised and horrified when it’s all inevitably goes wrong, as it’s beginning to. Ah well, people tried to warn you. There’s none so blind as those who will not see.

I lived there for 10 years. And I do visit. And then get a train home at the end of the night.

Majority of that stuff you mentioned costs money _ hence comments about needing money.

I live in a town in Essex. We have restaurants, live music, theatre, parks, meadows, woodland, arts centre, museum etc. Decent schools Also a lower crime rate than London

Blinky21 · 20/08/2025 22:50

The way that the UK is going frightens me, people believing the lie that migration is the reason for their problems rather than austerity. I had this discussion with a taxi driver last night, who told me without irony, he was going to live in India because of 10k 'illegal' migrants to the UK.

You need money to anything anywhere. I assumed since you'd reduced London to a "hell hole" of poor people in Tower Blocks, you weren't familiar with anything the city has to offer.
