Thanks. That's a useful set of stats. The figures are gross, as I suspected, so the number of migrants here will have increased by a lot less than the total arriving.
They show that the vast majority of migrants are here on visas, and most of those visas are for work (183k) and study (414k) visas. Clearly, the workers were needed in some way or they wouldn't have got visas, and foreign students are a benefit because of the fees they bring into the education system.
Refugees/asylum seekers are a relatively small group, at just 111k, and the majority have come via safe & legal routes.
I found it interesting that Afghanis were the most numerous group arriving by small boat. I think anyone fleeing the fucking Taliban deserves a safe haven, tbh.
