Just read this awful story in the Guardian. Awful and makes me feel so angry and so unsafe as a half Black woman.

Care to say what you actually mean instead of talking in riddles?
Also why racism in inverted commas? Do you believe it doesn't exist or something?
As for white British people, why do you see anyone calling out racism as "joining in identity politics?" Would you rather everyone just shut up about it and let people racially abuse others without being called out on it? 🙄

Identity politics:
a tendency for people of a particular religion, ethnic group, social background, etc., to form exclusive political alliances, moving away from traditional broad-based party politics.

‘Racism’ is in quotes because what we are discussing on threads such as this does not fit the definition.

You knew this already of course.

No, you’ve got that backwards. It was OP suggesting she is the right type of immigrant because she married an Englishman.

You certainly tried to make it up, but you failed.

My reading comprehension is fine thanks. Why does it bother you that the pp immigrated here and married an English man? You then intimated that she felt superior for doing so. She didn't say that anywhere.

The rise in ‘racism’ is simply white British people joining in identity politics. It’s distasteful, but their children are f*cked if they don’t start pushing back.

This is what I mean, it’s reasonable for people to ask ‘if we don’t limit immigration, what does this mean for our children?’. That’s not racism. But making a strong focus on ‘we don’t know the background of asylum seeking black or brown men’ for example, when we don’t know the background of various men with white skin who also may or may not present risks to women and children = bog standard racism.

DeLaRuiz · 22/08/2025 13:13

There aren’t any white men that as a community all agree that women should hide their bodies and hair when they leave the house.
There aren’t any white men that as a community all agree that being homosexual should be banned and issue death threats to homosexuals if they try to be active or known as gay.
There aren’t any white men who as a community agree that women can’t be allowed to be home alone with a tradesman, and cant telephone a tradesman to make an appointment, and can’t freely answer the door of their own homes.
There aren’t any white men that are a community in agreement that women should be limited in their education possibilities.

It really isn’t “racism” to want to know exactly who is present. It’s sensible.

The problem is as in the article that started this thread: the assumption that someone must be an asylum seeker because they are not white. That is racist, as is the idea that British = white. And those kinds of expressions are now commonplace in a way they have not been for a long time. If you can't see this, you may be part of the problem.

I know plenty of Muslim men who don’t uphold those values, and I employ many Muslim women.

The pearl clutching is ridiculous, it’s a completely mainstream and sensible view to challenge mass immigration and illegal immigration running at almost a million a year.

Is that gross or net migration? And does it include illegal immigration?

Migration Observatory gives a net migration figure of 431k for 2024, and it includes those coming here for asylum.

Migration Observatory is generally well regarded for accuracy, so it would be helpful to understand your figures and see if the source for them is using similar methodology.

MrsBennetsPoorNerves · 22/08/2025 13:27

I'm so tired of seeing all the racism here on MN as well as in real life. It feels pointless to argue against it because the fuckwits aren't interested in reason. It has always been here, but it has got so much worse.

LakieLady · 22/08/2025 13:28

TopPocketFind · 22/08/2025 08:36

Did they get granted asylum?

The hatred is mostly aimed at those arriving by boat, who don't have other ways to arrive on British soil.

Yes, they did.

I think you would be surprised to find that there are 'white men' (by which I think you mean not Muslim, as there are many white Muslims) that do all of those and an awful lot that would like to.
Look at what Andrew Tate wants women to be like.

I am glad they could use a safe way to do so.

LakieLady · 22/08/2025 13:34

What an indictment of our society it is when those who are trying to help desperate people are themselves at risk from these hate-filled arseholes.

Those who feel they have legitimate concerns about immigration could do with taking a look at their fellow travellers, and asking themselves if they really want to be associated with that.

Agreed. It’s just a load of racist/islamophobic assumptions. I also know Muslim men who don’t follow any of these practices. Of course there are some, but there are a great many white men who coercively control the women in their lives in other ways, and there are white men who don’t.

I think those engaged with the wholesale demographic and cultural change of the U.K. should have obtained legitimate permission.

come to think of it I know lots of gay men who arent camp, so I think all those camp queers arent really gay….

They won’t.
However, if you believe they will, maybe you should start having a go at embedding it in the national way of life that we are nice to minorities…

Do you feel all comfy inside, denying misogyny inherent in Muslim belief systems? Is it a nice safe feeling, telling everyone that you are sure there is no duplicity, masking, or “ passing” of Muslims when not amongst fellow Muslims?

And you like seeing women with fabric tightly clipped to their heads and all around their necks, and swathed in fabric from head to toe? All nice and comfy? Because it’s a great way for women to live?

Any movement alters that to some degree. It’s minimal though. And not negative in my view.
