Just read this awful story in the Guardian. Awful and makes me feel so angry and so unsafe as a half Black woman.

Where would you house them?

FWIW, migrants do not jump queue, neither do asylum seekers

Do the French house them or any other place on route to the UK?

MiloMinderbinder925 · 21/08/2025 22:08

How is that good news? There are 30k currently in hotels having their claims processed. Where do they go?

Apparently into these houses.

I know people i'm friends with at work. People who have no interest in politics or are even left wing liberal types who have recently said they're going to vote Reform to 'stop the boats'.

I don't want Nigel Farage as PM, he's an absolute grifter who'll do a lot of damage, but that's what we're going to get because of useless, cowardly politicians.

You think the Tories are liberal and austerity didn’t happen in your universe. Where the fuck have you been living?

Chickenbone123 · 21/08/2025 22:19

User32459 · 21/08/2025 22:09

I'm sure the general public will be delighted to have unvetted men move in next door into HMO's.

But then it'll be dumped on working class areas, as ever, not the leafy shires and nice areas where the politicians and liberal middle classes live.

It already is! Just hundreds of them rather than a few houses.

SleeplessInWherever · 21/08/2025 19:47

Because their nation of origin won’t let them in without their passport? Stop it, please 😂

We seem to though

MumOfManyAliases · 21/08/2025 22:03

Why should migrants jump the queue? Do you know how long people normally have to wait for a Council house? What about homeless British people who are already living on the streets? Why should migrants take priority over them?

And they shouldn’t. But we are where we are. Atleast this way we can distribute the load so some communties aren’t disproportionately affected.

You mean the Calais jungle?

France houses refugees claiming asylum in France.

Of course but it's not a story when it's just in working class areas because the government always shit on them. We only hear about it when the more desirable or middle class areas are affected (like Epping). Then all hell breaks loose and those men need moving which will be to a working class area in an HMO.

EmeraldShamrock000 · 21/08/2025 22:33

Separating people into different groups in a HMO mixing religion and culture couldn't work.

Has antisocial behaviour increased with HMO's.

It's a disaster set up at the best of times.

CrochetQueeen · 21/08/2025 22:38

I don't know but it's become more acceptable to say racist things and there is the very prevalent structural racism and racism of those too polite to say racist things in public who somehow think they're above Farage. They're not above Farage, racism is racism whether it's online or in a job interview conducted by looks and false interest

I think the houses are better than the hotels for sure.

What why wouldn’t that work? I think that’s sensible. They can begin the integrating and learning of British tolerance from the get go.

Absolutely. They need to be distributed across the entirety of the uk. As I said the villages and towns numerically there’s more than enough.

Well yes, though I'm sure there is 1000 of buildings that could be converted.

There are many hotels in Ireland that accommodates migrants, most are families, elderly and unwell.

Warehouses have been converted, the old central mental hospital is converted in a very posh area shops converted. The biggest conference centre in Ireland had partitions to create rooms.

Some of the smaller towns, lost access to the only hotel in the area, which is sad for family celebrations, big change for small town people.

Many of the planned spaces have been burnt out before anyone could move in.

Many of these converted spaces belong to shady people who are getting very rich from the contracts.

They're not a long term solution.

Do you live close to HMO accommodation?

I haven’t an issue with families in hotels tbh. And from what I am seeing they don’t bother communities in the same way as the hundreds of men hotels.

So that cuts down the number of places required in hotels. Perhaps that’s why it’s. 20,000 instead of the 30,000 pp mentioned. Just closing male hotels?

Thats weird who’s burning these places? Inside insurance job? The far right? The left? I assume not the migrants as they haven’t moved in?

I think the idea with the houses is to spread the load of the men specifically. Any large groups of men loitering day in day out are going to be problematic.

You still haven’t said why they shouldn’t be mixed?! I think that’s super important. A good way to test their ability to assimilate.

Chickenbone123 · 21/08/2025 22:57

@EmeraldShamrock000

And sorry you edited the last. Yes we have HMO’s here. Not asylum ones but legal migration ones. The town has a lot of migrant communities, both historic and new.

We have two hotels. A family one of 250 next to my son’s nursery. They don’t cause problems. We have another a few miles walk from me in a village of 2000. 200 men. There are problems with that one.

How is it insulting to tell someone they’re not special because they married an English man?

Because you're suggesting she's the ' wrong' type of immigrant. On a thread about the rise in racism too. Couldn't make it up.

EmeraldShamrock000 · 21/08/2025 23:20

When the test fails who will pick up the pieces, the Police? Ambulance service? The neighbours?

Different cultures don't want to mix for good reasons.

If different religious beliefs and culture mixed well, there would be no war, no racism.

You couldn't have a person who eats pork eating, drinks alcohol around people whom it is forbidden for one for one.

I am sorry but if we seriously think it’s not safe to house asylum seekers of different religions and backgrounds together then my mind is going to boggle. 🤯

Goverment funded HMO's generally aren't safe for anyone with little to do.
A quick goggle search on HMO'S, the impact on areas is really negative, they're antisocial cesspits, destroying communities, add people who have had a traumatised life, possible ptsd, and not much to do into this type of accommodation is a disaster.

I agree it’s not great. But I would much rather take a couple of hmos than a couple of hotels anyday. But I suppose most people don’t have to deal with the hotels so for them an hmo is worse.

What do you think we should do?

But seriously I also think if it’s a recognised safeguarding issue to have asylum seekers from different backgrounds living together because they are too racist, or too intolerant, or too traumatised, or too whatever. Then that’s unacceptable. That risk is now in our communities. This whole thread is about racism and intolerance and we are not only importing it! We are literally facilitating and accepting it!

EmeraldShamrock000 · 22/08/2025 00:15

What do you think we should do?
No idea.
Citizens all over Europe are fighting against their government's on immigrantion issues, hence the rise in tensions.
